It’s premature -  I know.

So if teams finished as-is. We’d have pick 6, 18, 24, 36 and 90.

I’d take 18 and 24 to  Cats  (as Suns unlikely to trade ) for Pick 9.

Take 6,9 to WC for Reid. If they take it, good otherwise we use it on Curtain and Duursma.

Rather keep the picks thanks

Why are the cats giving us a top 10 pick? Slide down 9 places for a pick in the 20s is not a deal I would do if I was them.

They have two picks for the entire draft. that and pick eighty something and they have Danger and possibly Hawkins retiring and maybe even Isaac Smith.

They need to bring in new blood.

Round 13

Melbourne picks: 9, 16, 28 and 35

GWS picks: 4, 6,

Round 14

Melbourne picks: 6, 16, 25 and 35

GWS picks: 7, 10

Still a lot to play out obviously but if we can engineer a swap with the Suns first round (?8-10 range) with a swap of 16 and 25, then we actually might be within a realistic shot of trading up for Reid.

Could end up something like 6, 8 and future 1st for Reid. Then use left over picks to take K. Brown and make judgement calls on R. Andrew and O. Turner.

GWS the major competitor to trade up for Reid, particularly if Himmelberg leaves and nets them an extra 1st round pick.

Either way, we could easily end up landing 2 x top 10 picks to supplement our list.

May the death ride continue.

Freo. Heave ho !!!
I’d take picks 6,18,26 and 36.  (That’s us as premiers of course).
I’d try to package up 18 and 26 and maybe a future 1st to get one of Suns picks.
We need 2 x young A grade type midfielders to regenerate and get added pace and skill into the team.

Do folks really think we are any chance to trade up for Reid? I don’t, and I also don’t think that should necessarily be the goal. One player has never been our strategy.

If we can trade up for Reid you do it in a heartbeat. He’s a ready made inside outside strong fast elite skills footballer. He’d carve the MCG

Peoples asking how we could possibly lose to Flagmantle. Psychological player's conspiracy; If I play too well against this team I could soon lose my spot to a young, top-shelf draftee.

At our stage we only need one player, it’s going to be hard enough to get games into one let alone three more. We have barely seen anyone from our last 3 drafts as is, no need to add more to the pile up

Surely we have to balance what we are now, with continued success.

agree with the first bit, disagree about the last bit...best 26 man squad players from the last three drafts:

  • jacob van rooyen (2021 draft)
  • judd mcvee (2021 draft)
  • jake bowey (2020 draft)

if you extend it out to 'last four drafts' you'd add in rivers and pickett, plus jackson only just left at the end of his third season last year

to have 5 of our best 26 drafted in the last four drafts when we're at the pointy end of the competition is a pretty impressive introduction of young talent time

i'm all for bringing in the best talent - if we can get reid, let's get him, teach him the inside / outside game with one of the best players playing that role in the entire competition currently one of the leaders at our club

Is that because they aren't good enough or because Goodwin is loyal to his premiership winners?
Is any-one at Casey knocking on the door?

Sure as you extend it out the numbers look better, but we clearly do have a backlog of untried or barely tried players from the last 3 drafts let alone more for this year coming up, as only 2 of those 8 picks (7 of which were under pick 40) taken in the national draft have found a regular spot in the 22 we would have been better off trading up for a single pick in each of those years and gone after generational talent.

Other than JVR and Jefferson we haven't drafted any talls at the top end though, and KPP are the ones retiring soon.

Thoughts?

Freo were garbage yesterday evening.

Pure and simple goat manure. Couldn’t execute a basic under 11’s chain of possession for most of the night.

I predicted this team to finish top 6 after they knocked us and Geelong off in consecutive weeks.

Turns out our loss against Freo is ageing terribly and our lost to Port is ageing quite well.

‘One’ player, no. But we have chased specific players and given up capital to get them. Oliver cost us to get up to ND4, and we gave up our future first round pick at the end of 2019 which most people thought could be a top 6 pick to get Kozzie at ND12.

So if Lamb and Richardson manoeuvre it’s because there is one player we wish to acquire.

And we tried hard to trade multiple high picks for Bailey Humphrey last year as well

Freo caught us on a bad day. everything went right for them, and we were rubbish. Days like that can happen during the season. They are trending downwards and we're pushing top 2 so I suggest we all move on from that defeat.

However it does hurt to think that if we got the job done against Freo (and GC should've also), they would be truly trending bottom 4.

Now it's hard to think they will fall more than the 12-13th position on the ladder.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
