Only 22 played.

23 should have,  but only 22 did

But under AFL rules it's a match counted for all 23 Rd players having played or not.
Years ago Smithy  did not use a20 th player yet he is in the Melb team as  flag winner.

So clearly JJ gets his ring and deserves it.

The 23 who went out to battle and did the Job get the acolades. Those that didn’t strive to get better

Like to have seen them do it on their own...they didn't and that's the point.

Without a strong list, many of those who played in winning game to get us there we fail.

The season is more than just one game...it's a season.

Anyway, won't argue any longer otherwise I will get your 'Lord' impersonation.

I see it a different way.
Those Players who didn’t play in the 23, should be hell bent on aiming to make a GF. The 23 who did should be honoured by the Club.
The game is ruthless and tough, nothing should be handed out, accolades must be earned and the 23 deserve Life Membership

The game is ruthless enough as it is.

Im more with @pewpewpew- why are we doing this at all so long after the win. Dining out on past glories is literally complacency.

Don’t know why, but when I listened to Kate Roffey talk at the B&F about the Committee room dinner and presentation of the rings, I didn’t like it. Whether it’s the timing (it’s last seasons win), the exclusiveness, or the American thing, I can’t put my finger on it.

What a strange thing to organise well after the premiership particularly after it was earlier revealed that there are members of the team felt isolated (perhaps too strong a word) by not being a part of it.

Less focus on bling and more focus on wins Dees.

This!

It has always been the best position that the 23 who played on GF day deserve to be acknowledged and this should, inter alia, include being on the team photo forever, being on the ground at the end and receiving a premiership medallion.

It has always been the best position that those who didn't play but contributed to the team's success, be it players who either played in the 22 in at least one match or trained with the squad, on field support such as coaches, runners, physios, doctors, trainers, water providers etc, should also receive some form of recognition as contributors to the teams success. This could take the form of a ring, special certificate, inclusion in official photo of the club or some other momento.

Personally, I like a ring that can be worn with pride and fellowship.

I have two questions.

1.  Did Simon Goodwin also receive a ring?

2.  If so, will there be any ring-kissing from fringe players trying to break into the side?

probably no more so than normal

however i believe all rookies are to take their turn in washing his feet

The whole club was committed to winning a flag and all should be acknowledged in some way

Tbh if I didn’t play in the game I wouldn’t want a medallion or a ring.

It would be the old “participation” award.

We are and always have been a game that everything rides on the GF game.

I see @Rhino Richardsis now beating his head in response to my posts.

Clearly a case of self loathing, as being unable to use a keyboard or speak after so many years, must be a really tough gig

By all reports Jayden wanted to stay at the club but was "encouraged" into Free Agency.  Meanwhile Luke Jackson gets a Premiership ring.

Probably because he played and made an impact on the outcome of the grand final

Luke Jackson reaped a heap of benefits from being in the 23, like I posted earlier- playing the game, the medal, the dias, the photos, the lap of honour. He deserves all those things and he deserves an MFC ring, but I also think Jayden deserves one too because he got none of those other things but made a significant contribution to the flag.

Put it this way, if I was Toby Bedford trying to make a difficult decision between an MFC offer and a GWS offer and I saw that ring segregation go down, my decision would be made - GWS where do I sign.

Yes - a clumsy response if this is how it played out. Especially after the May/Melksham incident.

The NBA rings:

"Rings are presented to the team's players, coaches, and members of the executive front office"

The NFL:

"The Super Bowl ring offers a collectable memento for the actual players and team members to keep for themselves to symbolize their victory"

If our Board is going to introduce some brassy American idea, they could at least do it the same way as the Yanks.

In the US the rings are bought by the billionaire owners - who paid for these?

I would just train harder next year.
You make it sound like Hunty and Bedford are the first 2 players to ever miss a GF.

there are sad stories every year of unlucky players missing out

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
