Whitfield & Haynes on the trade table?

Featured Replies

A straight swap for Bedford and one of these two.

Yes, ridiculous, but I wanted to be the first goose to suggest it - an AFL 'journo' in the making.

Whitfield is what we need - clean sweeper, quick, beautiful kick.

My god.

Whitfield would be a dream in our side.

Opposite wing to Langdon or give him a half-back Nick Daicos role.

Probably way out of our thinking/cap but if we landed him and Grundy this year plus hit the draft with a top 8 pick we'd be laughing. And I'd be laughing. All the way to the 2023 flag.

Whitfield was in the top 10 if not top 5 of the league 3 plus years ago. Not anymore.

Signed a 7 year deal at the end of 2019. Would be $800k plus pa.

Salary dumping is beginning to become the norm. $600k would be tempting

From what I've heard Haynes' contract is heavily back-ended.  He's a very good player, but I suspect that GWS won't salary dump otherwise would be well worth a look.

Whitfield is an excellent player. Good disposal. Just what we need. If he is genuinely gettable I’d prefer him over Grundy.

He would slot straight in, incredible athlete with skills to pay the bills.

Whitfield, would be a great get and improve our transition with quick and penetrating ball movement.

Buyer just need to be aware on the contract size

As if we have the draft capital or the money for Whitfield. Keep dreaming.

Not a chance.  Simply we have not enough $.

What you got for us?

I didn't hear a peep about us being liked to Gunston!

Thanks Jimmy,

Disappointing Gunston decided to go to Brisbane.  Behind the scenes we went hard. Apparently, he had some family or something in Brisbane.

Unfortunately, I have nothing at the moment.  I have not spoken to anyone from the club for a number of weeks.  However, in saying that I like the way the trade period is unfolding for us.  We seem to be working to a plan. Make no mistake we are working towards much more than just good draft picks from Jackson and getting Grundy.  Just not sure who it is we are targeting outside a contracted KPF.  As far as that player goes, I have no idea how things are going but there has been a small amount of speculation in the press in the last week.

 Cheers!

Sounds like a reference to Georgiades.

I'd take Whitfield over Hunter

To be honest I reckon he's going to be a superstar...we can only dream.

Would have him in a heartbeat if possible.

He can take a grab that's for sure, his set shot kicking is deplorable, might need Tracc's help in that department.

Haynes NUP no room for him in the backline but a huge yes thanks for Whitfield, the guy is quality and I'd take him in a heart beat. Pretty please.

Whitfield would be outstanding but doubt we have the salary cap space for his estimated 800k-1mil salary after bringing in Grundy.

Whitfield is exactly what we need, Haynes is way too much and we don't need his type

Whitfield of 2020 is exactly what we need, but he suffered a serious internal injury in '21 that he stated at the time may take 18 months to recover from. This probably explains his drop in form this year and he may well be back to his brilliant best next year.

However, he'd be on big $ and his contract still has 5 years to run! We'd want to be confident of his health before committing to yet another long term contract. He turns 29yo next season.

* Sorry Diamond_Jim, have just seen your similar post. Anyway,  caveat emptor.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
