It is with great sadness that I see that Liam Jurrah is reportedly once again in custody. He is alleged to have assaulted a women with a machete in Yuendumu. I recognise that this matter is yet to go before a court so recommend that people be careful with any comments they wish to post. (If mods want to delete this thread because of that concern, I understand.)

Back in 2012 we had an indigenous kid working at The ABC who came from the outskirts of Darwin. He loved AFL and watched all of his brothers throughout the Comp.
When Liam left on that Friday night, he just said to me “He ain’t coming back…”

One of my all time favs - wish we had of given him more support. I'm not saying we didn't just wish we had a good mentor to guide him and maybe an emotional tie like a gf at the time. Same with all our interstate boys support them and make sure they have a serious gf and another reason to stay in Melb besides footy.

Liam got very well looked after, you cannot fault the Club on that one. There were many problems, but that wasn’t one of them.
He was asked and told to stay..

He chose to go

I hope the woman he attacked with a machete is ok

It was great to see him at the Port game in Alice this year but seriously. Time he got his life sorted out and stopped behaving like a thug

Channel 7's recruitment process to replace Wayne Carey is pretty intense.

But, seriously, this all sucks. For most of us it is like looking through the wrong end of a telescope and getting a tiny glimpse into a terribly damaged community. Hearts ache and it seems beyond resolution even when viewed dispassionately.

I'm glad we as a club and supporters had our previous brief look into Yuendemu and got to see moments of joy and enthusiasm there. Maybe it is the hardest place in Australia to live well, but some people still do.

I spent a week working in Yuendumu. Coincidentally, the same week Jurrah made his debut for the Dees. Hard to put into (concise) words the experience of being in the community. Needless to say, to make it to the AFL from Yuendumu takes a rare talent indeed. Really sad to hear this news.

No winners coming out of this. Only losers.
It's horrible to see where it has all ended up for Liam.  In human terms, he is young enough to turn his life around but stuff like this doesn't help.
I hope the woman whose home he alledgedly broke into is OK as well. The courts will determine whether it was him or not. That said, living through a home invasion and being attacked with a deadly weapon would not be a pleasant experience to say the least.

Can only imagine what that was like

if only the government and councils would spend money on trying help these isolated communities rather than changing the date and political one upmanship.

There's bugger-all we, a city-based football club, could have done. Unfortunately Liam was born under a troubled star. A long term AFL career was not his fate.

Agreed, we did everything we could when it came to Liam's well being. Such a sad turn of events, I've never seen a talent with his skillset and attributes before or since.

But had he stayed then every ladder position, trade and draft pick we'd have chosen since then would be different. It's not like we can look at our current team and just swap a fringe player with Jurrah and declare we'd be that much better. That path would be completely different. We could have not quite bottomed out then not gone through the transformation that led to the '21 flag.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
