Watching all the coverage with the family. My youngest asked if the Queens Birthday traditional match will be switched over to a “Kings Birthday” match.

my response “Yes I think so”.

If we continue to have the traditional Monday holiday, to respect the current schedule and in a way start a new tradition. Maybe Charles III could be in attendance.

Its celebrating Queen Victoria not the subsequent monarchs

Why would he want to come to the footy ffs?

Maybe we'll be a Republic

Much more better

Hopefully the name change improves our fortunes because I’m sick and tired of losing to the pies

This might make you feel even worse:

So now that the Queen's birthday matches are at an end, what was the final tally?

Looking forward to another afternoon of "COOO-LLLL-IIIII-NNNN-GGGG-WWW-OOOO-DDD'

and "'USA - USA - USA- USA""

And Pies supporters inevitably  booing Petracca or Oliver when they get awarded the Neale Daniher medal despite same supporters getting offended when Pendlebury got booed on the same stage on Anzac Day.

Other than that I love going to Pies v Dees games of late.

From 2002 - 2022 when QBDAY game became a staple in the fixture:

We were 6-13-1 and that includes the 2021 SCG game

We were 4-2 after 2007.

For the record we beat them in 1993, 1996 and 1999, and didn't lose to them in the 1990's.

State Government media release (see above in this thread) states it will still be the second Monday in June. Just a name change - nothing more.

It would be even better if he participated in the Big Freeze. It might guarantee his popularity for the length of his reign.

The Usher of the Black Rod could arrive from Canberra to give him the shove

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
