Great Northern Summer 708 Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Given the very sad news of the Queen’s passing, sporting events in the UK are being called off this weekend. England v South Africa at The Oval has been called off tomorrow (day 2). Today was washed out anyway. As part of the Commonweath, will this affect sport in Australia this weekend? I understand there is a 9-10 day mourning period too. 1 Quote

Ugottobekidding 1,244 Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Will be the King's Birthday game. Sad news. She was a great lady. Not many of them around these days. 3 2 Quote
BAMF 4,487 Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Very interesting.. I would doubt we would call off any events though. I would guess that we would introduce a minutes silence tonight instead of calling it off. As for the Queen's Birthday clash, Queen Elizabeths real birthday is 26th of April. We dont celebrate until the second Monday of June. Prince Charles is on 14th of November. I would imagine that we would retain the public holiday on that date and simply rename it. 8 1 Quote
Bring-Back-Powell 15,562 Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I wouldn’t expect the game to be called off. A minute silence obviously.. When princess Diana had her funeral they had to move the 1997 Friday night elimination final to the Saturday afternoon. If the queen’s funeral is Friday night our time, I expect Friday’s prelim to be moved to Saturday afternoon. 1 1 Quote

Apparently her funeral is day 10 after her death (if you believe news.com.au) so next weekends prelims won’t be affected. The Brownlow might be on at the same time?? 1 Quote
