Slightly off-topic, but I do note the irony of the ABC which is holier-than-thou when broadcasting games so it won't give a stadium the name that has been paid for by a commercial interest (such as Marvel or Optus Stadium) yet makes sure its own brand is highly visible on a satellite dish.

I think Jack Viney plays better after a freshen up and he’s made for finals. Fully expect him to go to another level( probably his normal finals level) tonight. Our midfield has gone improved since Gus went in there, add a bit extra grunt from a fully firing finals JV and I think tonight’s performance from our midfield will be one that lives long in the memory.
We really have an embarrassment of riches  there and that’s why we win tonight and go back to back.
Our backline isn’t too bad either.

For those who are attending live I'm hoping you get to enjoy it as much as we did in the West last year. I have so much faith these guys will go out and get it done, they know what they have to do and I honestly believe they will.

Be loud, from the start to the finish. Make them know the MCG is ours, just like Optus ;)

Hope you had a good birthday regardless Jaded. As someone who's birthday usually falls on QB it can be dangerous hoping for a result for birthday happiness.

Yes mine was on QB this year and on the QB Watts debut debacle.

It's finals time - yet not of the tellie variety.

Pack your vocal chords 'landers.

I just restocked my supply of Fisherman’s Friend. Double dose needed today since TWO matches at which to scream like a banshee. 😱

Our cheer squad oughta be on Fisherman’s Friend’s payroll. It’s a staple on GameDay. 😁

This ‘friend’ of yours seems to regularly have issues…just sayin’

More off topic,  there is a difference between the ABC promoting itself and promoting commercial organizations.  If they promote Colgate toothpaste, McCleans will feel hard done by.   When the MCG is called Facebook Stadium, I for one will be relieved that the ABC still calls it the MCG.

Watching from Phuket this evening, no sports bar nearby but fortunately my vpn is getting past the geo block. Hope you're all in good voice and give em hell demons.

Must say it was the first thing I noticed too.

As my good friend says, the master of the score involvement.

If both teams play at their very very best Melbourne win. I believe we are primed to do just that today.

We thrive on the big stage, and have timed our run into September perfectly.
Two or three goals up at the half, a third quarter blitz led by our mids, and then cruise control to keep them at arms length in the last.  Dees by 8 goals.

Hope everyone back in Melbourne can get to the G tonight and experience what we all did in 2018 and those of us living in WA experienced last year

Enjoy all

There's also a difference between the ABC refusing to be paid to promote a product, such as Colgate, and someone else being paid, such as the owners of the stadiums now called Marvel and Optus. If an organisation has decided to officially change the name of a stadium or an event (such as the BMW Cox Plate - or whatever name it now has), I think there's an argument that the ABC's intransigence in not using that name is wrong...and Petty. (See what I did there to keep this thread on topic?)

Qualifying finals should be 50/50 games but this one is Melbourne's to win.

Swans will pack our forward line and rely on the quick Z shaped play to rebound into theirs.

We all know what the answer is and against Brisbane the first half showed that we can do it.

Oliver is the key to the next premiership.

There may well be but they'd be closet fans since you’re considered a little soft if you can’t handle that huge fishy slap in the face that only FF provides. 😁

I once ate a Fishermen's Friend.

Has FTB gotten extremely drunk last night? Yes he did.

Is FTB suffering from a morbid hangover in the office this morning? Yes he is.

Is FTB wearing his scarf and Melbourne gear in the office? Of course he is.

Will FTB get extremely drunk tonight? Yes he will.

Will FTB barrack the loudest he ever has for this football club. YES HE [censored] WILL.

Hope we have a particularly loud and feral (by Melbourne standards) fan base tonight, suspect there will be close to 55K of us tonight.

Here we go

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
