I don't know for sure that's why i said 'probably'.

But the ump wouldn't have known for sure either.

Was a split second situation.  Benefit of the doubt surely goes to the initial beneficiary which was the original call and ball is returned back to the Tigers to take their free.

In soccer the ref often waits a few seconds to see how the play unfolds first to see if there is actually any advantage to the free kick recipient (in a team sense) before allowing the game to continue on or calling it back.  I don't see why we can't do the same rather than just saying "advantage" as soon as it looks like a player 'may have' decided to play on.  Even if he does, whether it's an advantage or not should not rest with the player....the ultimate call should remain with the ump IMV.

Fair call mate. Tough call

I do think baker took it and few seconds went by. Soccer handles the advantage rule a lot better. Footy to me seems inconsistent. Sometime they pay advantage and call it back which is crazy. Either pay it or don’t

Richmond were never as good as their late season wins suggested. A fixture filled with non-finalists.

Neither of these sides can defend, which meant neither of them were a legitimate flag threat. But because they played each other this week, one of them had to win.

Richmond will be kicking themselves that they couldn't beat an out of form known finals choker missing Rayner, Answerth, Adams, Lyons and McInerney after 3 minutes.

The ARC review probably led to the correct call overall (was probably a behind given everyone's reactions), but once the umpire called it a goal, even if that was the wrong initial call, the video evidence surely wasn't enough to be conclusive.

However, I'm not sure that was a free against Daniher moments earlier for the push in the back. Looked to be a legitimate marking attempt from him.

100% agree on every count.

We will never get answers while the system is the way it is. Either invest in it and get it right or not. I feel like we've been saying for ages to get 4K cameras.

Get off your a*** and do something about it because this is doing all our heads in.

well despite the process confusion i think they got the decision right.....and so does lynch

It's a cultural respect thing re the passing of M.R. Snr., WCFC had a press release saying that he should be referred to as such.

Thanks for the explanation. Much more helpful than the smart ar#e response of another poster.

Cheers, didn't know that either.

Sounds too good to be true...

A movie made with an iPhone can win an academy award, surely figuring out how to use a Samsung to capture goals can't be that difficult. Alternative is to put in longer goal posts when Lynch is playing.

Can’t sleep… nervous for the game…

Nothing to be nervous about. We've been waiting for finals since the end of Round 10 and have been building nicely.

Swans are an honest team who won't roll over for us, but I expect a clinical win of between 20-35 points as we start the flex our muscle with our superior finals game.

Whilst the game was high scoring and some great goals were kicked I thought overall the skill level was low. Richmond have had their time at the top and are now in decline. Full credit to the Lions, I didn’t tip them and don’t rate them as a threat and last night did nothing to change my view.

I thought that was a great start to the finals

An entertaining game between 2 teams with no chance of winning the flag, a dodgy goal ump call followed by a dodgy review ending in a heart breaking loss for Richmond

No more Lynch, the Nank, Cotchin, Hardwick and the Tiger Army. So dislikeable

All is well with the world

Revolt kicked a goal @ 14min mark last qtr and clearly a goal but BT said they should review it.  Luke Hodge said they review ALL goals. Love it when commentators correct BT on live TV. Daisy is very good at that. BT quiet after that. Haha Not for long though. Cannot stand that guy.

Reads better.

Aah how good is it waking up knowing Richmond's out of the finals. If only we could find a way to get Collingwood out just as quickly

Tiges were my second most feared team this finals after swans because of their finals experience  and forward personnel. Plus G is their home ground.

Good result.

Sadly we cannot have both Geelong and Collingwood out in straight sets this year.

And some serious plodders out there.

Lachie Neale is next level. He was the difference. His talent stood out.

Fork the toigs.

Last night was a battle between Swiss cheese defences. Jarlsberg versus Emmental.

I legitimately think someone in the front row behind the goals could have taken a better angle video with their phone than any of the ones they used in the review.

Maybe we could stop the game for 10 minutes while we wait for everyone in the crowd to send in their videos! It could be like fans at home calling a rules infraction in golf.

Obviously the ARC reviewer thought there was "conclusive" evidence to say that it was a behind. Otherwise they would have said "umpires call".

They also probably have clearer and more accurate video in their centre than what is relayed back to your television, even if it is HD.

If we lost a final based on an ARC umpire guessing I would be filthy

this a professional sport FFS

Not sure it was guessed. AFL would have evidence of overturn, as they did.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
