There is no way that Melksham gets dropped before Spargo or ANB.

Melksham had assists in many of our early goals, when the game was up for grabs. And he's shown that he's a better crumbing forward than Spargo.

Spargo the talisman? Based on what? Hardly touched the ball for about a month. And twice now in 2 weeks he's pulled out of contests.

When the game was up for grabs. ANB was slow as he has been for weeks. Got into the game in the 2nd half once the game was over.

When Fritsch and Pickett kick four goals each, MFC wins due to an obvious causal link.  I have formed the opinion that when I see on the TV that Spargo is regularly on the defensive 50, MFC wins.  I use the word, Talisman, indicating magic or the lack of an obvious causal link.  And I like the word itself.  If I had a private secretary, I could get him to watch all this season's games, count the times that Spargo crossed the line.  Cuthbert would then throw the data into a spreadsheet and look for a correlation.  He would also check whether Spargo on the move meant his team-mates were on the move, also using the metres run from the data site.  A working hypothesis would be that when Spargo puts in, all put in and we strangle the opposition.

Moving along to separate question on whether Spargo or Melksham remains if TMac returns, my fictitious private secretary would again look up the metres run for S. and M. in the games where TMac also plays.  With BBrown, TMac, Fritsch and a ruckman part-time up forward, the need is for mobility and pressure rather than another lead-up and mark forward.

Cold (7-14) but mostly dry and not too much wind predicted for Friday.

Nothing like finals weather in Melbourne

Hopefully we can have it a little warmer if we have a Melbourne prelim

Wet and windy in Perth for the Dogs v Docker game. (Could be a close one)

Chanel 10 just mentioned potential injury to Truck.

He was stretching looking at his lower leg with someone watching on which I assume is a medical or fitness person

Waiting for the report to come up.

Update

saying it is a potential calf complaint and was discussing with physios.
Dees said he will be right to play. Time will tell.

The players were told after the Brisbane game that our game would be the Thursday night so obviously it's been pushed back a day for Papley to play (which I can live with as we'd want the same). Interestingly Papley went out Sunday night after their game to celebrate Hanneburys retirement and got absolutely smashed. If only he punched a team mate...

Ladhams likely out with suspension in the VFL. Had to go back to Round 17 against the Bulldogs to see when he last played in the ones. Not a big out for them and hasn’t particularly played well this year, but means they have limited ruck depth to Hickey. He also plays pretty rough so less collateral damage.

I'd say no change especially if Salem is iffy. I don't think he's earned the right with his form this year to be a lock and McDonald certainly hasn't.

Geez that's rough for James Jordan :/ rotten luck.

JJ was an absolute soldier all year and played the best footy of his career. Big shame.

Just rotten luck. His contributions over the past 2 seasons deserve a medallion. It's for cases like this that I think medallions should be considered for players that don't make the granny, say for those that played 15 or more games over the course of the year

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
