  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah that 05 year maybe a little sketchy!

At least with a guy like him you know where you stand.

All-up, they tanked in 01', 04' & 05' ... and that's just Hawthorn

Sonya Hood deserves serious accolades.  Personally negotiated and steered the deal with Clarkson.  Whatever, promises she made to Clarkson she will keep.

CEO not part of the process but that is probably because he won't be part of the future.

They are doing what Ess haven't:  taken a cold, hard look at their total organisation and have a plan going forward.  Piece by piece she will build a strong organisation..

We certainly learned a lot this week didn't we?

One of the other things we learnt is that the rumour (nightmare) that Hird will replace Yze as an assistant coach might be over.

The Age has listed coaches Ess should call.

LOL, Goodwin is one listed.

That will be a very short conversation:  Gee, guys.  Thanks but Ben is my mate.  And by the way, you have had 4 permanent senior coaches in the 8 years since I left.  Each one was unceremoniously flicked off..  Why on earth would I come back to that snake pit. Bye!

Brick by brick. They are coming from a long way back and they know it. Foundations will be put in place and they will finally have genuine hope to sell to their members.

CEO surely changes.

Imagine if someone told you on that horrible afternoon in September 2000 that in 22 years Essendon would have no more flags, haven't won a final since 2004, club was destroyed with factional infighting due to a systemic doping program under coach James Hird, Bombers had just missed out on landing the best coach of the modern era since Sheedy to North and Melbourne were the reigning premiers!

Love this. At the end of a working week, with the Dees on TV, with it being the family traditional take away food night, with a good bottle of shiraz ready to set breathing at about 7.30pm, and now you post this sublime synopsis. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

It took us 10 years to recover from our "benefits of losing" campaign. It is taking Carlton 20+ years to recover from their tanking and cash-in-brown-paper-bags era. The Crows are in the middle of a horror stretch after THAT camp which could mean they have no success for a while yet. Some issues have very long lasting consequences for AFL clubs.

This is going to take the Bombers a LONG time to get over, and the reason is simple: hubris. They are so full of themselves from their board, to their past players coteries, to their cheer squad, to their trade and drafting personnel - the list is endless. They need an outside authoritative voice to come in and sweep it clean, but no way will they allow this.

I love the fact that Clarkson has chosen North. It will rocky and turbulent at the Roos for the first 18 months, but their young list will respond well to him. I know he is not a particularly likeable personality (from all reports) but boy he gets the job done.

There will come a day when a club (with the funds available) will launch into free agency over a 2 year period

In theory up to 6 top-notch players can be brought in and with that talent, a club can rise quickly

It only seems like yesterday that North took advantage of the 10 year rule (a form of free agency) in 1972 and acquired 3 A Grade players (Wade, Rantall & Davis)

As well as agressively stitching up interstate talent such as Blight, Cable, Glendinning and the like

Success followed soon after

A simple plan executed extremely well

The key these days is to not have a salary cap filled to the max with C & D graders.  Minimum wage for the floaters (not above award)

No I haven't, layz ... youtube?

What might not be highlighted was where all the money was coming from to pay for all the A grade talent they acquired?

Bankrolled by a few apparently. I won't name names but Uncle Albert?

Their wage bill would have at least quadrupled overnight

Sure is!

Can't remember how far they went into the finance side of things but it's seemed like a fair few loans and risks taken.

Remember when St Kilda brought in Blight how before that Grant Thomas said he literally called every current coach in the comp and asked the hypothetical question and they said no? This reminds me of that haha.

Garry and the fox gang getting stuck into Essendon. Garry sticking it to Sheedy numerous times for his interview on Wednesday. I could watch this all day

only thing that would be better from here, is if they decide to keep Rutten and he walks

In that same year (1972) when they went on their recruiting spree we absolutely slaughtered them at Arden St

But get this, I'm catching the train to the ground as a youngster and get off the train a stop earlier than I should have ... a monster walk eventuated but I got to the ground at quarter time and thought nothing of it

Until I looked at the scoreboard to see the quarter time scores

North Melb 0.2 2

Melbourne 11.7.73

I don't normally carry regrets but I missed that first quarter and I'm still annoyed to this day!

I'm sure there's a few here who were there from the start

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
