Great outcome for us. Grundy is an upgrade on that last ruck man who left for Freo and whom I've forgotten his name!. Get Grundy fit and away we go.

We lost on the Jackson trade, but at least we won big time on this one.

Absolute bargain for a top 5 AFL ruckman.

No other club saw value in the deal... even to the extent they got into discussions/negotiations

Anyway let's hope it works

Greatest ruck pairing ever? Certainly in terms of Supercoach scores we are loading up

The way he has whinged all through this trade period I guess he would.

Can't think of a better ruck duo in the history of the game on paper

Max Gawn, the first champion demons player of my life time and the first or second for most of demonland I’d imagine, is now Mason Cox with worse gags and no sunglasses.

The big bearded fella was never going to last forever but it’s a sad day and we should all take a moment to reflect on that.

Welcome Brodie. If you’re coachable and willing to play a team brand of football you might be a handy pick up. If he still thinks it’s the Grundy show then he might be off to Tassie in a few years.

Will need to see him in our clash strip first

GO GRAWNDY!!!! ❤️💙

Yes happy days. The Gawn-Grundy combo will be an experiment but it gives them options and even allows each to have a “managed” game through the year.  Ruckwork can be brutal on the body and we’d like to sustain big Maxy as long as possible.

At pick 27, it’s a good deal. Tim Lamb held firm.  He’s welcome back into the Demonland poker night.   Pies had already signed DEGOEY and Mcstay so had to move Grundy $$$ out.

How many $$$$ is the question ????

Who cares, it'll be more than the pie's would like to become public knowledge

So what are we left with? 13 and….. then 2 firsts, 2 seconds and a third in the strong draft next year, when we have a f/s prospect to boot?

Fox Footy: "Dees...will pick up the bulk of the remaining five years on his lucrative contract"

501k can also be seen to be the bulk of 1m

I read a million a year with Collingwood covering 300k

Fantastic result of true

Pick 27 for Grundy on paper is a great trade.

Still hard to picture how him and Gawn will work together without diminishing each others strengths, but at least the club is being creative here and has replaced a ruckman in Jackson immediately.

Worried how much his salary is going to cost us though!

Grundy deal crashed Big Footy ...

I believe the pies are paying $300k of the $1mill a year... so nothing has changed on that front it seems. If we get him fit, paying $700k for an elite ruck is a bargain even at $750k.

That's not a great deal. It's the one every club rejected when it was floated over a month ago

And you know that how?

The report of the trade mentions that Port Adelaide, GWS and Geelong were all interested but that Grundy dismissed each as he didn't want to leave Melbourne.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
