While Lobb has requested a trade to Western Bulldogs, Melbourne arguably need Lobb more, not just as a ruck, but as a contested marking force close to goal and someone who does not relegate Gawn to spending most of his time forward. What makes the Lobb fit so ideal is that he is ideally suited to a relieving ruck role behind Gawn and gives the Demons the option if Gawn misses games at some point to take over as Melbourne's lead ruck.

While Bradley Hill has been linked to North Melbourne, the wide-open expanses of the MCG would suit Hill much better as it did during his tenure with Hawthorn. With Melbourne a team featuring prolific ball winners, Hill for the Demons would need to do nothing more than just be himself which makes Melbourne his ideal landing spot.

If this new rule comes in, that lets you trade in your F1st & F2nd, that could affect us. It could mean Freo trade us 13,  Freo F1st & Freo F2nd. Or it could be 13, Freo F1st & Nth F2nd, with our F2nd going back to Freo. We may want to do this, in case we want to trade out our F1st at some stage

While I wouldn’t like it I would accept Freo first round this year + next year F1st & F2nd. Then we pray that the footy gods give Freo their worst injury run in history next season.

The self appointed draft guru Knightmare works for ESPN and I'm sure he wrote that piece. He was pushing for Bailey Rogers to be drafted last year. 

I've watched a bit of WAFL this year, and you're right, Bailey Rogers wouldn't be high on any club's radar. He's a slightly better version of Jimmy Munro.

I am actually surprised Rory Lobb isn't more open to going to ANY Melbourne club rather than just the Western Bulldogs. Is his heart totally set on the Bulldogs or would he consider coming to the Demons?

I would definitely be open to Rory Lobb being part of the trade deal for Luke Jackson to the Dockers.

I think Rory Lobb would be a handy pick up for the Demons and a far more versatile forward/ruck option than rolling the dice on Josh Bruce from the Western Bulldogs. It would also make us a very tall and dangerous forward line and forward/ruck combination with Gawn, Grundy, Lobb, Brown and McDonald.

They've been into Lobb for a good 12 months now.

Once you get on the front foot early and heavily invest into feeling like they're wanted then it's pretty hard to change their mind.

No, he’s not a slightly better version of Jimmy Munro. It’s Knightmare being Knightmare - he likes pushing forward mature age footballers and hyping up players who are NQR. 

His October Power top 20 rankings he’s included Casey Voss (son of Michael) who he’s been trying to get drafted for about 4 years without a sniff and he’s also pushing Port Melbourne’s Ethan Phillips. Neither will ever make it.

It's the usual reactionary bollocks - we, as supporters, can now finally bask in the glory of the media asking the question in pre season AND 10 rounds in about who can beat US for a change, as the previous years premiers .. and then subsequently piling on when things don't go to plan...

It ain't going to  be any different to the dozens of media articles and sound bites, that are about to be pushed out into the AFL landscape, between now and Season 2023 for Geelong...

Luke Jackson

The Dockers have offered pick No.13 and a future first-round selection for Jackson and the Demons have wanted to get inside the top-seven of the draft as well as the early pick for next year. Fremantle's stronger suite of draft selections, including two future second-round selections and two future third-round selections, gives the Dockers a bigger hand to play with to get the trade over the line with some possible later sliding of selections an option. Jackson has always been favoured to get to Fremantle, with West Coast not in the picture at this stage.

Brodie Grundy

Collingwood has targeted a top-25 pick for Grundy, with Melbourne swapping its way into pick No.27. The Pies appear likely to wait and see if the Demons get any more selections in for Luke Jackson's expected trade to Fremantle, but the Demons' pick No.27 is on the table. Grundy has five years to go on his contract at Collingwood, with the Magpies to pay a portion of his remaining years as he combines with Max Gawn at Melbourne.

Rory Lobb

Fremantle has said that its contracted tall forward isn't going to be traded to the Western Bulldogs with a year to run on his deal. This one has links to the Luke Jackson and Josh Dunkley trades given the Dockers wouldn't consider anything with Jackson not completed and Dunkley's trade potentially giving the Bulldogs a greater chance to offer something that gets Fremantle interested. The Dogs have put forward a second-round pick – either this year or next – for Lobb.

Toby Bedford

GWS has put forward pick No.44 to secure Bedford, who has requested a trade to the New South Wales club where he hopes to earn more senior opportunities. However, Melbourne is determined to secure more in a deal for a player who graduated from its Next Generation Academy. The problem? The Giants don't have anything else, aside from their suite of five picks inside the top-20 of the draft. Could a future pick get this sorted? Expect negotiations to drag out a little longer, with both clubs locked in significant deals elsewhere.

Don’t understand why those slagging off JHF for wanting a trade aren’t going hard after Bruhn for the same thing. At least JHF pretended he wanted to be there. Bruhn had a sook from day one.

Bruhn saw out his contract, played 30 games and gave it a crack. He’s also a pick 12 who fetched the giants a pick 18, not a huge amount of damage done.

The AFL just now [censored] canning the idea of letting the Power use their pics - their future pics - is just them manipulating the competition again…. Jason Horne Francis is going to be made an example of.

Is this the beginning of the AFL trying to place more contract emphasis on high draft picks maintaining their obligations when they sign on the dotted line?

They're just following the rules that they set up  aren't they? Or are they backpedalling?
