With Goodwin confirming to 3AW that McDonald has what looks like a ‘lisfranc’ issue with his foot - that might be him for the year.

That leads us exposed forward of the footy. There is very little forward craft between the players and perhaps we need to shift players around to find something that works; Tomlinson, Daw, keeping Mitch Brown… got to think about all options. TMac wasn’t destined for the forward line until Weideman and Brown got injured at the start of last year…

Whole fwd line need to sort out patterns

Not to forget that the delivery to the forwards from the mids also has to looked at and improved.  The forwards are part of the problem, but definitely not the entire problem.

Geez I hope we get it sorted for the Queens birthday clash.

Horrific injury, could well be career ending

You really want to play Tomlinson in defence ahead of Petty after yesterday's performance?

I think our defense is our strength, we can find another target but it'd pointless if we compromise that.

Tommo has not one attribute that would suggest he could make a positive impact up forward. He barely does as a backman.

I hope the club considers bringing in an external person like Jonothan Brown as a consultant to work with the forwards on their forward craft and spacing, it's a mess down there at the moment.

I agree - people have such short memories. If Weid comes in for BBB, Moore will just play off him and rebound most of our F50 entries

For reference...

Contested marks - Brown 0.8, Weid 1.3
Marks inside 50 - Brown 1.4, Weid 1.5
Tackles - Brown 0.6, Weid 1.2
Contested possessions - Brown 4.2, Weid 4.7

But tell us more how much worse we'll be at the moment with Weid instead of Brown (who hasn't kicked a goal for 3 weeks).

The biggest difference for me LN is that even with Brown this out of form he doesn't appear to get outmarked nearly as often as SW does, which is a huge concern for him.

I suspect if we're going to win the flag we will need one, but probably both of them to find some serious form heading into finals

Out - Thommo, Hunt, Ben Brown, Sparrow

In May, Hibberd/Rivers, Daw/Weed Bedford

Daw or Weed  in to cover the ruck with Jacko

Hibberd or Rivers are better backs than Hunt.

Gawn played as a permanent centre half  forward . Marks, kicks goals and and works up to mark the kick ins.

No matter what the make up of the forward line set up is going to be, I would love to see the mids get more creative and in particularly, quicker with their entries to the forwards.

It appears to me that we have become a little too slow and predictable going forward. This enables the opposition to roll back and defend, particularly when we just end up then kicking  to a pack.

A bit of creative quick ‘controlled chaos’ footy going forward could be the go. Bring it in quick, so that at the very least if the forwards are not in a position to mark it they bring the ball to the deck and let our smaller forwards have more opportunity to get busy.  May help us get some mojo back.  Success breeds success.

A statless act is competing and bringing the ball to ground. BBB at least does that whereas Weid is pushed under for an oppo mark or spoiled over the line. Moore will brutalise him if he even plays on him. My guess (if he plays) is Weid will take the 2nd tall and still be outplayed.

I don’t hate the guy but I’m no longer blinded through my Demon goggles. I had high hopes for this kid but im a realist and cannot see where and how he is going to change in 1 month if he hasn’t changed in 4 years. Not sure where you are getting your faith from Nev but I am no longer drinking that Weid coolaid.

As long as they don't take Petty out of the backline I'm fine with trying something new. Daw and Tommo are probably the ones who they could try forward in leiu of Weid or MBrown and it wouldn't impact us too much. Gus Brayshaw might help too- he's a great 1 on 1 player and mark and we might be better served having him on a HFF now Salem is back.

Our defence is a large part of what made us premiers last year and went 10 & 0 to start this season even though our key fwds have been out of sorts. Tomlinson was out of his depth last night, he was clearly rattled. May, Petty & Lever must remain together in defence . We still have the best defence in the comp, the best ruck duo and arguably the best midfield. I couldn’t care what Weids stats are at any level, he has no physical presence at the moment, so the .4’s and .6’s mean nothing. Time to try something different. Drop a tall and bring in Bedford or for something completely different bring in Daw.

One of Bowey, Salem or Brayshaw would be well served in the HF I think. But they were all kicking terrible last night.

Put Brayshaw back on the other wing too.

Put the Premiership back line together.

Jordons been in good form so put him in the mid rotation more .

in May , Petty forward ,  in T.Mac  out Brown out other Brown.  Possibly Daw could used forward and or ruck. Gawn could play forward or defence. out Hunt in Hibbard or Rivers.

In : May, Hibbo, Bedford

Out : Hunt, Sparrow, BBB

Petty May Lever

Bowey Tommo Salem

Brayshaw Viney Langdon

Trac Oliver Dogga

Fritta, Gawn (FF) , Kozzy

Bedford, M Brown, Spargs

Bench: JJ, ANB, Hibbo, Harmes

I think Tommo would match up well on Cox so stays in the side IMO. May can take on Miochek and Petty can take The 3rd tall if he’s fit to play . This will free up Lever to play the loose / interceptor.

If Petty goes out, Hunt stays in.

Bowey on Ginoven  and Salem can play a higher  HB with Hibbo coming in.

Hunt comes out and Brayshaw moves to the wing .

Forward line is anyones guess but Weid and BBB not up for it atm.

Ni doubt in my mind we are loading.

Perhaps, but I'd be interested to see any evidence for it apart from "they look tired".

Apart from the fact that it's too early in the year to be building for (checks notes) September, ... there's the idea that has been floated on here that of course they're loading because "everyone does it". But if everyone does it, how come our opponents aren't also flagging during games?

Don't believe it myself. Footy is as much mental as physical, and there are only so many times you can go to the self-belief well when you're being hammered by a competitive team who are on their game, as has been the case these last 2 weeks. (And will be next week.)

Why?

Because, one,  you can see they are not covering the ground, are unusually fumbly and in the last two weeks are shaged at the end of quaters and the whole second half.

And two, this is exactly what happened last year at exactly the same point in the year, including our sudden inability to score and stop the opposition marking the ball.

I won't be surprised if we lose next week too.

I am soooo hoping that you are right about ‘loading’.

I was even accepting that there was a real chance that we could drop next week’s game against the ferals.  The aim of the game is of course September.

But I just saw the ferals get over the line against Hawthorn and my most love to hate player in the comp is now Ginnivan (he even surpasses Weidman from Footscray playing for frees and that is  no easy feat).

So noooooooo, we have to beat them come what may.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
