Hunts disposal is poor and Rivs is a better one on one defender, hunt is better at running forward,

I thought Jayden competed harder and ran harder the whole night

I thought Gus was really, really good again tonight. I think he has really found his spot. Despite Lever and Salem still to come back into the side, It will take a brave coach to move Gus away from the backline.

Never in doubt. Not only is he the best on-baller in MFC history, he’s the best I’ve ever seen in the AFL/VFL. Phenomenal.

You must be very young. He has a little ground yet to make up on Chris Judd, to name but one.

Brayshaw back to the wing when Salem returns, (Salem likely in for Hunt).  Viney in for Dunstan (who didn't do much wrong).  Lever in for Smith.

ANB had a complete stinker tonight.  When the heat is on, he holds the ball for a little too long and gets caught out.  Weids, although he kicked 3, still isn't a lock.  BBB is.

How much are (most of) our smalls improving - Sparrow,  Bowey etc.  Even Hunt had a good one tonight.

4 points to lock in...  Bank it away... but imagine if we played 10% better tonight.  That's an 80-100pt thrashing of a team that is still in the mix.

I Just love winning…..sooo good

Richmond contributed the most to that being a sh*t awful game.

They suck and their coach seriously sucks

Incidentally, we've now beaten the teams currently placed 11 to 16 on the ladder haha. If we beat the Hawks, they'll be our biggest scalp this year.

It'd have been 70 points just with half our points going the other side of the post.

I swear when Jake Bowey has the footy, my heart rate drops 12 BPM. Extraordinary user of the ball, and showed ample guts tonight. Might even be Christian Salem’s equal by the time he’s back. One on each flank. As Bruce would say…. delicious!

Tonight was my 9 year old nieces first game of footy. I almost sent her home at half time for fear that Children and Family Services would be called.

It was ugly, and then we flexed for 10 minutes and it was over, and then it was a terribly boring last quarter. Strange game.

And then after it was all over the crowd was again very subdued - like everyone expects us to win.

That was as ugly to watch as the Port game. On that occasion, the low quality of the game was on them because of the garbage style of football they chose to play.

Tonight, the degradation of the game as a spectacle was on us because of our terrible kicking for goal. I think at times we were a bit too cute for our own good and would have been better off centering rather than blazing away.

That said, we definitely were the superior team. Our pressure, positioning at the fall of the ball and contesting in the air gave us the amount of inside 50s that ultimately won the game.

Best for mine was Clarry by a mile. That said, he could have been a lot more efficient tonight. His disposal accuracy was around 60 odd percent and I felt that his connection going forward has been better.

Our backs were absolutely rock solid. Petty, while not as naturally gifted as either Lever or May, is nearly is as important as them for mine. His disposal and decision making has improved out of sight compared to those few uncertain first games (but what player hasn't been that way when they start off?)

Nibbler had an absolute mare, but that happens. It reminded me of a game that Bernie Vince had against the Suns in 2017 when nearly everything he touched turned to poo. I'm willing to back him in as you can't doubt his work rate.

Weed, while not setting the world on fire, has secured his spot. BBB has been middling in his last two games, so compared to the rest of our tall forwards, he has been round abouts. Plus he was able to kick bloody straight (something that most of our blokes struggled to do).

I get the feeling that we will drop one soon. I think if Dusty and Grimes were in tonight, then the game would have been much closer (his class could have even got the Tiges over the line). Once we bank a few more wins, I'd say loading will begin and we will drop one or two.

Anyway, we win and we move on. Bring on the Hawks.

I agree with this.

Of the 22 behinds how many were missed set shots and how many were  missed shots in play? Tigers tried their best to keep themselves in the game through the pressure they applied when they didn’t have the footy.

Let’s not get carried away, 19 goals 6 last week. 10 goals 2 in the 3rd and at one stage 8 straight from 10 inside 50’s. What happened tonight will be addressed by the coaches as we move onto next week’s game.

A win is a win....🤷🏼‍♂️

After going through many years of embarrassment and ineptitude I will take winning ugly over losing pretty every time.

The Demons definitely need to look at getting a specialist goal kicking coach though. Kicking 22 behinds was awful!

We don't want to be inaccurate like that again. It was incredibly frustrating!

Lastly, I have to say that Clayton Oliver is one of the greatest Melbourne Demons players I have ever seen in my lifetime. He is an absolute bull who is unbelievably tough and competitive and is still only 24 years old! What a gun!

Richmond supporters on Bigfooty are trying to claim that they lost the game because the free kick count was 20-10 in Melbourne’s favour after quarter time. Dumb lot don’t seem to realise that you have to have the ball to get a free kick!

Exactly 12 months ago we won this game by 34 points with 22 scoring shots to Richmond’s 18 and the lid was off. We were over the moon.
12 months on we won by 22, but had 31 scoring shots to 14.
My we have gotten spoilt.

Thank god we got mark Williams to our club otherwise Clayton would still just be handpassing all the time. Mark showed him how to kick really well. Thankyou

Umpiring was very kind to us, but nothing paid was not there. Trac should have been pinged for holding the ball but so should have Bolton.
The only real dodgy one was the umpire calling Balta to play on when he said he was going for goal.
Also I shall bottle up the salty Richmond tears and enjoy them for breakfast.

Petty has been huge, May is one of the best defenders I’ve seen. When Lever and Salem are back good luck scoring!

Bowey will eclipse Lovett as the best #17 I’ve seen in a dees jumper.

I’m 56. He’s better than Chris Judd.

Judd had the burst if speed Clarrie doesn’t, but gee I wouldn’t swap Clarrie for Judd.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
