Yeah we didn't look amazing but if you think that was a poor performance I think you're underrating Gold Coast. And the weather. Not sure the last time we played in hot and humid weather.

I reckon the game ends quite differently if we nail one of those many misses in the fourth quarter.

And don't forget we've again held our opponent to 19 scoring shots despite missing four premiership defenders.

The risk with that backline was evident tonight though. Tomlinson was just OK and whilst Hunt and Smith did some good things defensively, they also turned it over a number of times each. We sorely lack Lever and Salem back there.

Jackson and Bowey were unreal, Petracca is the game's best player, and I was really impressed with how Sparrow, Jordon and Pickett worked into the game after each struggled a bit last week.

Wasn't the best night for Brown, Fritsch and TMac but we've pocketed a road win without injuries and I'm happy with that.

Okay it is a win but what a horror fest. Conditions played a part but hard to watch. If we play anything like that next week we will get done. Some skill errors were shocking. Pass and move on.

reminded me of when we'd play the good teams with 4 or 5 missing from their defence and watch as their 'second' defence would still carve us up in the end. and you'd think how can this be ?

I think we are being harsh on Hunt. yes disposal can be iffy at times but people might underestimate his aerial defence and ability to shut down the opposition running goals. He helped stop many potential goals tonight. not saying he had a great game but no way will he get dropped for that effort, gave it 100%.

but yeah my headline tonight was Bowey, he is Zen like with his reading of the ball coming in. never seems to over commit, is super clean and hits his targets. special mention to also to Clarry so had Rowell moved onto him as a tag and gave him a football lesson in the third.

horror fest. geez very harsh. very slippery and humid. not sure what you expected as suns defensive pressure was good all night.

Aside from wanting to stab my eyeballs out with a fork, we take the win in trying conditions and move on.

Depleted backline and plenty of players down tonight. Not often you’ll see Gawn or even Langdon play games like that.

Sadly though TMac is on borrowed time and Hunt just isn’t best 22 once players return.

Suns played exceptionally well and will scare a lot of teams this year. Their defensive effort was top notch and it might have been a different result if King was playing.

Move on and let’s hope we can deal those parasites a 0-3 start to the season next week.

Pocket the 4 points, recover, and move on.  That’s what the best teams do, and we are a very, very good team.
……… oh, and Dogga and Bowser were sensational.  Imagine them in red and blue with 50+ games under their belt!  Just wow!

The main thing I got from the game is how important the loss of Lever is. His intercept marking is crucial and sets up so many attacks. It was a humid night but May/Smith/Tommo didn’t mark much.

we will look so much better with Lever back on Friday

An outstanding player and we have him

Kozzie seemed just inches off it so many times tonight as he often does. When he gets it, his movement is just so sublime and hes so so quick. Will tear a game to sheds soon.....and that goal.

Was hoping we might get into his ear last year but he signed a long term deal with the Suns. Good on them he is a ripper.

The ball was a cake of soap out there tonight I don't think you can take too much out of this one. We won, already looking ahead to next Friday. Essendon are 0-2 and must win, we really could just about finish their season off with a good win but it seems they did push the Lions today (haven't seen any of the game)

I agree with all your sentiments on jaydens endeavour and running. But his execution is pre 2017 standard. I thought it had improved but not this year.

It stands out now the team has much improved skills across the board.

Couldn't agree more, was saying the same thing to the Son tonight. Even last game there were a few almost opportunities for him. He seems to be instructed to guard the corridor often and plays to the team rules. It will fall his way soon and he will tear a game apart.

Didn’t see 1 second of the game, happy to get 4 points, happy to be undefeated so far, onto next week.

Hope it was a good wedding. You certainly didn't miss a game for the highlights reel.

We are the Reigning Premier. Other sides want to knock us off. We won’t be getting too many easy games, particularly in the first half of the season.
We have to be ready. We haven’t defended a Cup before. Don’t be too harsh.
We got the 4 points and no injuries

Onward…

Haha yeah had a great night. Wedding was at Kirra Hill Community Centre, overlooking Coolangatta and Kirra beaches, perfect weather other than a very light shower, drank about a 100 beers, the lucky couple got married according to plan, and all in attendance seemed to have an enjoyable evening. Enjoying some crap TV on foxtel in the accommodation while I wait for the grog to wear off! Stay well party people 🍻🥂🍷🥃🍸🍺🍹

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
