BDA 23,048 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Even spread of performances. We have a good balance, strong across each line and good depth Harris is a monster. By far the most physical ALFW player i've seen McNamara BOG. Love how she goes about it MaGee and Parry will be the 2 worrying about their spots 2 from 2. really solid start to the season Go Dees 4 Quote
FarNorthernD 5,863 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 We had 5 out to HS protocols last week and 5 this week. By now you’d think half the players have had it. Hopefully we can get a few wins under the belt and be pretty much covid done and dusted by the back half of the season 3 Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Fitter and stronger with a bit more class when it counted. Well done Dees! 3 Quote
dl4e 5,851 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Solid performance and another win away from home. Hore, McNamara, Paxman, Hanks and Fitzsimons were probably our best. Goldrick as well. Second quarter very good but we took some nana pills at 3/4 time and snoozed a bit. I look forward to going next week. 1 Quote
rpfc 29,030 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 McNamara my new favourite player. Great skills and @Chookis spot on with the Langdon comparisons. She seems up and about with the girls tho - like a spark plug. I hope they can keep that midfield group together for a few years - they are all in the 21-24 age group. Great to see Harris playing like that too - so unselfish and she got a bit of reward. But that was great fun! Go Demons. 6 Quote
Apocalypse XXXI 243 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Strangely enough, we were outscored in all but the second quarter which we dominated. Tigers flattered because of their great accuracy in front of goal (similar to last week when they kicked 10.1). 2 Quote
Dees_In_October 3,515 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 For those who didn't get to see the game - worth noting for future reference that all AFLW games are shown live on the AFLW website. And replays are uploaded there as well, usually a few hours after the game. (Go Dees!) 1 4 Quote

I used to tell some ‘could be jets’ to not wait for their opponent to decide where the next contest was for them. McNamara dictates that. And her confidence is just so refreshing. Also Ally Brown really impressed me. Weird that she has bounced around the last 4 years. Reads the ball so well, decent mark and skills. 1 Quote

Dee Zephyr 19,320 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Demonland needs to write the match reports. A little bewildering McNamara hasn’t been named in the best in the above report. 5 tackles and 17 possessions, her defensive work was ferocious all night. Bannan’s goal was brilliant and it all started with McNamara’s kick into the middle from half-back to spot up Mithen. 2 Quote

It simply has almost zero spectator space between the oval and the perimeter fence. There's some room behind the goals at the railway end but otherwise it's the one lovely old stand. Princes Park is a better venue perhaps. Quote

Agree that McNamara should be included in this list. Zanker as best was the previous week. Edited January 14, 2022 by Meggs Quote

Timothy Reddan-A'Blew 5,690 Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 (edited) Thanks all posters and just watched the highlights. Must have been a bit like Anzac Eve last year, with Richmond's 'Uh-oh!' start but, again like the boys, being behind means nothing to the girls. I do like this 'reset' attitude that seems to be a whole-of-club thing. Also liking that - again again like the boys - the girls have the 'if x is down, y stands up' capability. Great depth and the ability to maximise its application. Zanker 2 from 2 BOGs it seems? And Harris, on a trajectory yet? - 1, 2, ...? Gee, she's a 'presence', too! Good to see KP back and (from the 'gameday gallery') firing. Edited January 15, 2022 by Timothy Reddan-A'Blew Quote

But good win and bring on the saints next week. Though you were probably referencing the boys WCE game last year, the real oh no not again for the girls would have been the very first game, at Casey, against Brisbane. My family group left the game when the lighting and rain storm set in at half time, and, though it seemed almost certain the game would be called off, Muggins stayed on, through the extended (and wet!) half time. Against the odds, the game resumed, the girls could not adapt to the wet, and we were overrun. Depressing. The inability to adapt to the wet was our downfall in that first year - the later wet game, against GWS, saw us again trying to apply our 'skilled' kicking game, while their 'just kick it long' game won the day and saw us miss the finals. george_on_the_outer 7,875 Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I watched the Collingwood v St.Kilda game to check out our opponent for next week. The Saints could only manage two goals late in the final term having kicked a solitary point to half time. Lucky they did get those goals because it was heading for a seriously major percentage boost for the Pies. The difference in quality of skills displayed was chalk and cheese between this game and ours. Collingwood are no great threat, without Bonnici in the middle, Livingstone down back and just a couple of others, they really lack talent. Yet they absolutely took the saints apart! Richmond had so much more on display. Disappointing for me was seeing the condition of Greiser for the Saints who should be one of the best in the competition now. Has gone backward in past 12 months physically. Quote
