To me it was a non-event.
If anything a sign of Gawns desperation when the game looked like getting away.
Bumped his own head putting GF sized dollop of mayo on it.
Not his best moment famously pointed out to him by Trac.

No way Maxy put mayo on it. Daniels is deceptively strong apparently

Reckon Daniels could be the answer to the doggies ruck problems. Nic Nat better watch out nest season!

Don't care who we play, we fear no-one, but would much prefer an afternoon game so i can bring my boy (he'll soon be 7). He watched the prelim and granny with me which was the first time he showed any interest in the Dees. I would love if his first game he see  live was the unfurling of the flag. Can;t think of a better way to cement his loyalty and connection to the team

Speaking of this ...any further info from Club land / Kate re the post GF family day!??  Surely if we can put 10,000 VRC/Corporate Sponsor elites into a betting ring swilling chardys and scoffing down oysters we can get a few ppl at the G outdoors for a gathering sculling down Furphys while we fly our vintage pre premiership flags about!?? (ty Aussie Post!)

And ...if we have to please Dan and his betting state to get this one away, maybe we can set up our own betting action for the day with 10% going in to the state's coffers!

You know important things like "who comes on stage first, which player was the first to barf in the cup post match, how long after the match was it before Uncle unlocked the maid's hand cuffs!?" etc etc

They've missed a little school over the last 2 years, 1 more day won't hurt.

I see it's just been announced that our girls will open their season against the Dogs as well. An early opportunity to strut our premiership attire on their turf.

I don’t like this proposal. It’s additional (and unnecessary) pressure on the team. And for little benefit.

Just noticed that as well. I'm looking forward to heading over to Footscray for the season opener and enjoying a few beers on Barkly Street afterwards

Absolutely BDA. Bar Josephine likely to get a look in and maybe the Victoria Hotel near the ground.

How people can be so excited about watching the replay on the MCG screen and yet being a bit blah about finding we open the whole season with a GF replay which would be the talk of the town for 2 weeks beforehand, is puzzling.

I think it it fantastic! please get it going. We will be flying the flag!

Think how many we will get to training all February and March. Killer Diller!

Richmond have been slow starters each year after their premierships, the only thing that’s ensured them getting the W in round one is that they keep playing the Blues.

I think facing the dogs definitely has the advantage of coming up against a team that’s had the exact same preparation time.

Maybe a good point re the 5 week reduction in preparation time - in which case it would seem equitable for both the GF and the losing OF teams to play each other in R1.
It would take the shorter preseason out of the excuse box.

Whatever. Just announce something.

Also, since when do we have Wednesday night games? Weird. They want to have 4 of the 9 games standalone night games in the first round?

Whatever.

Just give us the Friday night game and stop trying to re-invent the wheel.

We deserve nothing less tbh.

We opened the season in 2000 against Richmond on a Wednesday night.

That was a period when the AFL went a bit off the rails and experimented with mid week games.

What a waste of a blockbuster.

Midweek night game

Crowd 60k is my guess

Probably the worst night of all four available evenings.

Hopefully we make it big with the corporate dollars for the night

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
