I think it has to now come unto consideration.

It's a consideration for clubs every year..

But if you've created a great list and environment, and are competing for a flag then you simply back your people to be able to hold onto interstate players.

All well run clubs who are competing would back their environment.

It becomes more risky if you're a rabble, so more consideration must be taken.

It'd be an interesting case study but I imagine the strong clubs would almost always keep their interstate players (as long as they were entrenched in the best 22) except for some unprecedented scenarios ala the drug saga at West Coast influencing Judd's decision to return home.

I can't be effed doing the research but someone might!

I wonder why The Munster resigned with Storm fir a net season loss of 250K and the chance to ay at home with his good mate as coach.

It might be a club culture and management thing perhaps.

The Dee's are secondary ( or third) tenants in the Storm HQ; perhaps Max could stop podcasts and coffee and ask for some advice.

Who's going to shack up with Kosi this season I wonder.

yep those storm boys are real tight

Says he knew from mid year.  Met with them in the bye week.  Pitches from both WA teams.

feeling like he had checked out from then.

thanks for the flag, hope you never see another, except on TV.

Now we start the Death Ride of Freo 2023!

Why?

They did what they should do, get a player they want for as little as possible.

I say death ride the sook that needed his mummy. Hope he crashes & burns & that he has an unsuccessful career from now on. He knew he was gone last year & clearly played like he had checked out.

That’s a Dees Premiership player you are talking about…

M8, ‘The Freo Death Ride 2023: Chained to the Anchor’ thriller is all about the fact that we currently have their first two picks and if we keep them and they play badly… we get better picks…

For like 2 weeks or whenever we trade the picks to get up the order…

Pleased with the trade.  I liked watching Jackson play but I never rated him as a ruckman.  He's not tall enough and the opposition had him largely worked out this year.  His tap work is worse than poor, and as long as his backside points to the ground he'll never be a better ruckman than Darcy.  He desperately needs to improve his marking technique and if he plans on making his name as a Blicavs type player he needs a much bigger tank, and a lot more game sense.

His late third quarter GF effort is greatly appreciated and it's churlish to hold any hard feelings given that he more than paid his dues by helping us win a flag. I hope for his sake he doesn't get overwhelmed by the Perth fish bowl.  We have a great opportunity to further improve our list over the next two drafts now and capitalise on the incredible talent we have in our ranks.

It may have been better if he was up to staying as long as Weideman and our finding out how much better he could get.

That's the point surely

Jackson went home presumably because he was homesick,it's difficult to believe that Bedford wanted to live in GWS .

Well you don’t need to live in the made up area of GWS to play for them. Sydney is a big place & far better than Perth could ever be, what a [censored] WA is. I mean it’s not like the NRL players who change clubs regularly move to whatever area their club is based in. Besides just up the road from their home is the Blue Mountains or areas like Dural, Hawkesbury which have some of the most prestigious & highest priced homes in the country.

Sad that wanted to go but I can’t get the thought out of my mind with the similarity to the Scully situation. Both suffered chronic mild dicky knee syndrome that took the edge from their performances in their last season with us before curiously signing whopper interstate contracts. What’s the bet that like Scully he has a full recovery to his knee next season?

Nobody with any type or part of brain working would want to live in Western Sydney. It's worse than our Western Suburbs.

Clearly lack knowledge of Sydney & what is classed as Greater Western Sydney. Some of the best places around & covers Blue Mountains, Camden & nearly down to Wollongong. Yep areas like Blacktown, Penrith are garbage but at least there are mountains & a river you can swim in unlike Melbourne that’s flat, desolate & has a waterway as filthy as the sewage infested Ganges.

the point is they have leaked players over the years as much as any afl club

and yes i know their history, very impressive, but not so the last few years. i'm a fan.

Can't say I was impressed with his admission that he was 'gone' after the Bye, that he flew to his mum and checked out the Eagle den as well. Um, doesn't that mean that focus has evaporated? Doesn't that mean that from Round 14 he was going through the motions? I wonder whether his stats curved negative from that point on...

Feel the same. Surely there should be a rule against players meeting clubs in season and still in contract. I though there already was?

Would of liked him to be a career Demon with 4 Premiership medallions

Think he’ll be a star of the game.

Rate our recruiters to make it work in our favour.

We should never of had pick 3 in 2019

Will boo him in jest as I find that amusing

A small part of me hopes he never plays a good game again and gets traded to Tasmania

Tampered competition if you ask me. With the very low power the clubs seem to have over the players, it is unfair that they are permitted all these sort of liberties midway season in which the team was pursuing back to back premierships.

Not impressed with his interview and enthusiasm for his new club. This boy needs to have some humility and appreciate the grounding and lessons he learned, along with the premiership, and rising star award. He has a long road to travel and hopefully he learns some respect and grows up very quickly.

He is not the sharpest tool in the shed to be honest.

I agree. It’s hard to believe that as the National competition gets older, this is becoming an even bigger factor.

I think WA locking their boarders so hard made it hard on players with family's to go home and may have cost us a few more years here.

Coming from someone living down the road from Snowtown, hilarious

Yep culture is massive & I think Kozzie goes next year, it can’t just be a coincidence about his rumours.

On Munster though the NRL are different when it comes to the cap & he will get money outside of the cap which all clubs have the ability to do. Loads of clubs pay players extra money outside of the cap. The other thing that non NRL followers don’t understand ( same as the bottom, desperate clubs) is that they think they can just offer more money, but in fact an extra $100k a year for someone like Munster to leave would of meant he probably earns less than what he would staying at the Storm (sounds backwards, but isn’t). If you play Origin you get $30k per game so play all 3 & that’s an extra $90k a year.Playing in the World cup he will get $20k per game & we will win it so that’s 6 games, so an additional $120k, plus the $50k bonus for winning. Munster would get $260k for those extra games, plus trip overseas, the free everything & benefits that go with it. Big difference between players in top 8 teams making Origin & World Cup squads, so you may get higher base wage at a lower team, but few players from low teams make rep squads, so they lose financially in the long run.

Let's look on the positive side of things. We got to keep Sam for the time being. I recon he'll have a breakout year soon.

I kinda of find the “mummies boy’, ‘going home to mommy’ thing frustrating! Having a close family (chosen or biological) is great thing IMO. Why not wanna be close to your loved ones?

If you can’t relate, pity you 😔

Why not also live your own life & make your own choices like all adults should. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t love your family or friends, but jeez you don’t need to live near them or even in the same state as them. I love my parents, but I have my own life, live in another state, as do my brothers & my own son lives in another state to me.

Nothing worse than being locked into a rental agreement…

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
