Unlike you, I will not be accepting mediocrity in any trade, 2 first round picks or a top 5 pick and one of their best young players.

You said he was staying DD. You sounded so sure. What happened?

Sad day, I really hope we can cover the 2 marks and 0 goals that Jackson contributed in this year's final series.

Regardless of the revisionist responses as to how ordinary a player he is, it is a sad day for the club: he seemed like a great bloke, who undoubtably has a good career ahead of him. Just not with us!

Looking forward to see what gold JT and Lamby are going to produce with the spoils.

Just didn't see any reason why he would want to go, I don't get the homesickness theory.

Cash. Cold hard cash.

Will always be an immortal Demon in my eyes.

However VERY dissapointed he & manager strung this out.  As an act of decency to the club he should've at least made this known 6 to 8 weeks out from finals so we had a choice as to whether we would try blooding someone else or shifting the team around to prep for finals and to trial options in readiness for his abscence in 2023.

The obvious one to me would have /  should have been Weid in for LJ.  Weid takes Petty's place.  Plays about 80%/20% Petty's role / Relief ruck role swapping with Max for the 20%.  Weid also could have handled ruck duties in defensive 50.

Petty goes forward permanently in the later half of the year and finals.

Alternatively bring JVR or M Brown in for LJ.  BB & M Brown share a very small 10% - 15% ruck relief role. JVR was probably a bridge too far in 2022 and no way,he could relief ruck.  Even M Brown was unlikely here but we sure needed another tall forward.

I reckon this would have hit Maxy and a few of the boys pretty hard.  They would've had wind of this or have been 90% sure he was going by finals time (or most likely earlier) surely.  The body language in game for most of the latter part of the season & finals was enough to tell, even if nothing was officially confirmed.  All too late to change anything up in a meaningful way.

Forever grateful for his role and efforts in 2021 and our first premiership in 57 years.

Had a huge soft spot for dogga, will always be appreciated and loved for being part of this lengendary line up.

No booing from me.  Genuinly a really sad day from my perspective even though i knew it was 95% coming.

Good luck Luke.  Just hope you made the right call at such a young age.

His upside is crazy. We’ve all seen glimpses and he’s still 20, and  carrying an injury,l. I have no doubt LJ at 25 plus will be an out and out star of the comp… and we will prob learn to hate him.

But in the short term We’re in a plum window. He’s not critical to us fr the next 3 years. After that it will be what it is anyway.

We won a flag with him and ( despite that I might also have  to hate him in time ) I will always love the guy fr that. He was part of our bang bang bang story . A truly ecstatic experience. He’s looked after the club in the way he’s leaving too and seems like a genuinely good fella.

Wish u well luke. Now let’s get THE best deal done w this we can.

Worst kept secret in AFL.

Now lets do what suits us best and get the best deal that sets up our list for the future.

This is the key line in the announcement for me:

We will now work to secure a deal that compensates the club accordingly."

I've been totally blindsided!! Did anyone else suspect he was going to leave?   😉

I hope the Club doesn't accept some lame offer from Freo. If they can't offer something decent, let him take his chances in the draft. Not sure what compensation we'd receive. He was a #3 draft pick. Rising Star winner, premiership player with 2 years of development. Despite his indifferent form this year, the compensation should be at a very high level.

“Indifferent form this year” this comment is only relative to sky high expectations.

Dominated a few games this year. As a 20 year old ruckman that is huge in itself.

I agree with that.  No matter what happens dont cave MFC.  Need to get serious comp here or let him take his chances.  We have plenty of $$ in the kitty.  If Freo don't come to play show em the door!

A rental not a demon. Hope we don't give out life memberships purely on basis of playing in a flag.

The task for the club is to extract the best return. The decision is not a surprise so the club will already have preferred options to work through.

Personally not in favour of using part of the rental's loot in a Grundy trade. Gawn and Grundy both play their best footy in the ruck. Gawn can play forward working off functional key forwards a la 2021 but no sign Grundy can. Just seems an unwise use of draft and salary cap capital. I'd rather pursue options like the Swans Amartey or McLean who fit better in forward/ruck role and unlike Grundy are not contracted till their 33 year old season.

Looking forward to the 'its appalling Dees fans are booing one of their own premiership players' takes next year!

I'm with you there....

Just change the avatar to a pic of The Action Attraction Ricky Jackson.

I think you’ll see us look to trade in a late first rounder, the plan being to then send that to WC for pick 2, satisfying the AFL’s requirement that they maintain a presence in the first round.

Maybe pick 2 & 20 for pick ~17.

Then pick 20 to pies for Grundy (not what I want, moreso a prediction)

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
