I still can't get my ahead around why people think Andrew Brayshaw is an option in return for LJ.

Freo absolutely love the guy, he's going to be the future captain and face of the club and is their best player. Freo will say thanks but no thanks and move onto another trade target if Melbourne demand Andrew Brayshaw or nothing.

Serong might be a more realistic target, but once again, Freo will be desperate to keep him and clubs approaching their premiership window such as Freo are buyers not sellers.

I expect we'll get draft capital in return rather than A grade players and it may involve a third party.

Agree but how do they get draft capital without giving up players?

It’s an interesting dilemma for us. IF ( and it’s still just an if) we lose Jackson to Freo , then we lose one of our stars to one of our direct competitors in the next few years. Not ideal in anyones books. They are going to have to pay and I can only hope it doesn’t dimish us too much.

Jarrod Witts has 2 years left on a contract. Would be a great handover from Max to him.
not sure of chance to get before contract ends but

Witts is the AA ruck this year so far imo

I disagree, he would be a perfect fit for them.

Similar to our tall set up...

English = Gawn

Lobb = Jackson

Naughton = BBB

Marra= Fritta

Bruce = tmac/weid

I wouldn't liken JU-H to Fritsch, that's where we see it differently.

I can't see Lobb getting a game in the team they fielded last night and they still have Bruce to come in.

Don't see how Lobb even get's a game at the Bulldogs.

They need a tall defender desprately.  They recruited Naughton as a defender so maybe they plan to move him back as Darcy, JU-H develop and they get Bruce back.

Jackson is a lifetime ruckman with aerobic abilities to outlast his competitors for the next 10 years.  Good elite ruckmen are harder to find than midfielders in my view. We really want Jackson to stay at MFC and become one of the greats. For him to go, we’d want big compensation.  Luke Jackson = Andrew Brayshaw and a 1st round 2022 pick. I don’t care if Brayshaw wins the Brownlow or finishes top 3. That’s the deal.

LOBB to Footesgray. Would have thought anyone could get a game with that mob the way theyre playing.

Very over rated team. Putrid under pressure especially if they dont have the umps cheerleading them.

Hibberd is 6th cab on the backline rank with us. Wouldnt swap him for any doggie defender.

Dees team looks better with Hibberd in it.

I want Jacko to stay as much as the next person, but history says that clubs who lose big name players never end up really losing.

Bulldogs lost Ryan Griffin - flag

West coast lose Judd - Kennedy

Hawks lose Buddy - Flag

Geelong lose Kelly - look how that's turning out

Adelaide lost Dangerfield, lost the GF the next year (plus Lever) and cratered thereafter.

Geelong lost Tim Kelly, lost the following GF to Richmond and received draft picks that turned into Cooper Stephens, Ryan Angwin, Jeremy Sharp and Ronin O'Connor.

Fremantle lost Lachie Neale to Brisbane for, effectively, Jesse Hogan and Xavier O'Halloran, and did nothing for several years.

Gold Coast lost Dion Prestia for Jack Scrimshaw and did nothing since.

Port Power lost Shaun Burgoyne, made 3 finals series in the next 10 years, and got back Jay Nash, Andrew Moore and Jasper Pittard.

This isn't to say that thing always turn out badly, but saying that "clubs who lose big name players never end up really losing" is not correct.

How’s that going to happen

Seriously! Isn’t he their co captain

& why would he want to go anywhere

The same as all this Andrew Brayshaw rubbish, he’s their next captain

It will be draft pics & hopefully a key forward 😉

Yeah like May was their co-captain. and Tom Lynch
Anything can happen if Witts wants to play finals

If Jackson requests a trade we won't get what he is worth in a trade. He is a unique talent and will start 2023 as a 21 year old.

Just have to trust that club will work to maximise whatever options there are which may include other clubs to get best return possible.

We can hardly complain about a player wanting to return to their home state given we have likes of Lever and Langdon. It'll still be painful though given his unique talent.

We can probably summarise this thread as follows: Jacko please stay.

Yep.

The argument for 'Jackson is the absolute perfect fit for the Demon's needs now and for the next ten years' is unmissable.

Unfortunately, he is also a very good fit for just about any club's needs, and our offer has to compete with whichever other club decides they want him the most.

It'll all come down to where he feels he will be happiest, because let's face it, $100k isn't such a big number when it is your eighth 100k instead of your first.

I think a few things about Lobb to the Dogs:

1.Why wouldn’t they be trying to bring in a defender first? They have no good back men and it’s a massive list issue.

2. What does it say about JUH and Darcy (and let’s not forget Schache was the next big hope) if Lobb is playing for 3 years in front of them?

The Bulldogs remind me of that kid in high school that knows he’s not much to look at. They are so flattered any ones keen that they fall in love with out asking who, why or how.

Totally Agree

Luke Jackson is an AMG Mercedes V8

Swapping such a car for a Holen Commodore is not on

True - you forgot to add that half of that next $100k goes to the tax man

JUH is a really interesting one - he certainly looks capable - but so does the Weid 😲

JUH's kicking last night was poor and as Lethal said he simply looks incapable of winning possession unless its via a mark - if that's your one and only source it makes it a bit tough in the AFL - for a guy that not a monster in size he doesn't seem to be overly agile

100%. Every team has at least 1 gun midfielder and anyone of them can win the brownlow depending on how their team plays throughout the year.

How many gun ruckman do you really ever talk about. There is only a handful that are even in contention for AA every year.

Doggas manager lives in Perth which is probably all you need to know about the advise he's getting.

Gawn.....? No  no I meant "gone"!

They need to have a plan B to keep Gus.

Nothing wrong with his talent. Has all the the talent to be a really good player. He probably will be one.

However AFL football is really hard.... a lot harder than schoolboy or junior footy. To be a really good player you need to work really, really hard and make sacrifices to achieve success in a league where the talent gap is a lot smaller than you're used to in juniors. Some players are able to make the transition from juniors to AFL quickly because it comes naturally to them (like Viney), whilst others struggle to do so after being drafted (like Max). Some of those players then slowly learn how to make the step up, others learn enough to get by .... and some of them never make the leap.

Gold Coast were a basket case the, not anymore and the players look like the want to be there

Anyone with a kid that's wants to send Dogga $10 note and a cute handwritten note asking him stay - I seem to recall that working on Chris Grant in the 90s (could be someone else but it worked then)

The only thing I’m sure of is IF we have to trade LJ out, SWYL will be furious with what we get in return

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

    Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans.Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

    For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

    The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
