While I don't believe in superstitions, i think they are bad luck...boom, tish...I'll be here all week (well at least that part is true) there were certainly some omens that correlated with the Dees getting up on the weekend....I still cant quite believe that our team are the premiers.

So here goes, the omens that foretold of the Dee's victory

Last time Melbourne were Minor Premiers - 1964 - Outcome Melbourne Premiers.

2021 Melbourne Minor Premiers and Premiers

Last time Olympics held in Tokyo - 1964 - Outcome Melbourne Premiers.

2021 Tokyo hosts the Olympics and Melbourne Premiers

Only other team to come from 5 goals down after halftime at Geelong to win - 2006 WCE - Outcome WCE premiers

2021 Melbourne come from 42 points down to win at Gellong - Melbourne Premiers

Last time a captain kicked a goal after the siren to win the Minor Premiership - 1987 Kernahan Carlton - Outcome Carlton premiers

2021 Gawn kicks goal after siren to win the minor premiership - Melbourne Premiers

The big one...Age of Norm Smith when he passed - 57 years - Years since Melbourne Premiership - 57 years! The curse is over!

And a slightly left field one Melbourne finished the H&A season with 1888 points scored - being lucky in both Christen (Petracca of course) and Chinese numerology (lets go with the Norm Smith medalist, Jock McHale medallist and the Premiership cup)

Anyone got any others??

Anyway I think I am going to wear out the internet with the number of times I have already watched the multi-call of the last minute of the third quarter...unbelievable.

57 year drought, 57 points kicked in the last qtr.

Dogs ribbon falling down on the cup pre game.

Less omens then signs

Love this stuff.

Ron Barassi was involved in x6 MFC premierships.

Fritta, wearing the number 31, kicked x6 goals in the GF.

My son was born on the Monday before Round 1. Every game day he wore the MFC onesie. The day we played Adelaide he threw up on himself and we had to change him. The day we played Collingwood he [censored] on himself and we had to change him. The night we got beaten by the Bulldogs he threw up on himself. I can't explain the GWS loss. 😂

I played golf the morning of the grand final and found a ball that someone had written the number  31 on it.     That was my omen

My daughter who is 7yo asked my mum, her grandma, how old she was when Melbourne won their last premiership, she was 7yo old too. I knew we were home before the first bounce.

So... my wife knew the result before the game even began.

As they were bringing the premiership cup out, not only did the ribbon on the Bulldog's side of the cup slip down, but after they tidied it, it slipped down again and was left there on display.

Game over.

Not only did it predict the result it even predicted the progress of the game.

I see seeing the numbers 666 & 13 frequently throughout the finals series

Dees kicked 57 points in last qtr, Dogs kicked 7

57+7 = 64

The winning jockey's colours for the feature race on Saturday were red and blue.

1+9+6+4 = 20. 2020 was meant to be the year but due to the madness it was not a real year (16 min quarters, 17 rounds) so it doesn't count. Replaced by 2021.

2019 - Finish 17th

2020 - Finish 9th - jump of 8

2021 - Finish 1st - Jump of 8

Not an omen but a pattern.

Maybe not an omen so much, but a cracking prediction came from my Canadian wife. A woman who has at no stage had any faith in the team in her 6 years watching the game.

After watching round 1 she turned around to me and said "We look different this year. I'm calling it now - we'll finish first and win the flag"

I laughed at the time ...

Please buy a spare MFC onesie.

My ol man, bullies supporter and lived there, played one game with bullies u/19s way back, early 50’s. Was scrounging thru shed a week before gf and found an old team photo of him in Melbourne jumper, I think it may have been Alma Park, he played cricket for them, strange no chalk board of year or team.

Pre-game ceremony - as Lyon and Grant went to pick up the Cup - the Dogs ribbon dropped to the bottom of the handle.  My whole family noticed and cheered.  Even the Cup knew where it was headed.

Max winning the coin toss - I screamed “YESSSSSS” scaring the merde out of the two people watching with me, I had to explain Max’s record winning the toss this year.

I wrote here earlier in the year that I had a strange feeling about this year being a good one.

I mentioned to a mate that we alway win the flag in strange times globally.

Federation, WWI, the Depression, WW2 etc.

We were  certainties in the strange days.

The 1940 Olympics were going to be in Tokyo. Melbourne Premiers.

FFS, please get a better understanding of your son's digestive system, so that we don't unnecessarily loose game's in 2022, particularly to Collingwood and on GF day make sure he eats whatever he wants.

What happened against Hawthorn?

Thought that too, but there’s the possibility that the omen meant that 2020 was the last year of the curse, rather than it being the year the curse was broken and we won the flag.

Massive earthquake near Melbourne a few days before as though the gates of hell themselves were opening, while at the same time we had 6,666 active COVID cases 🤟🏻

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
