I wish i could stop pacing around..

Dreamed of this day since the dark times of 2013 and all those posts about the light at the end of the tunnel. Well here we are.

Once more to the bridge my friends !

History beckons.

I’ve got nothing done in the 5 years since the prelim.

The sun will come up in a few hours, just like it always does, but truly this day feels different.

I haven't even tried going to bed yet. Gonna be a tough night.

It is 5 to 1 and I am still drinking coopers.

Can’t sleep. Dream sequence begins and then Viney comes in with a crunching tackle and I’m wide awake. The opening 5 minutes is going to be insane.

Inspirational comment.

Thanks for making today easier.

You inspire me to be a better drinker.

You don't need to sleep - just skip it and you will feel naturally drunk and therefore delirious no matter what happens - surely nothing could go wrong

Why did Gill prolong this?? :\ It's like a pregnancy that lasts 5 years

It only really hit me in the last few hours re-watching the QF and reading some articles. We're actually playing in a Grand Final. The last time this happened I was 13 and didn't understand just how much it meant.

21 years later... I understand.

Still not sure if it's really sunk in yet... I might be saying the same thing 24 hours from now.

I'm having the same one, and it's only 7:30 where I am....

Don't do both at once. It can be messy.

The Peter Bell led Dockers?

  • Whispering_Jack changed the title to GAMEDAY : GRAND FINAL vs WESTERN BULLDOGS

Have a feeling this thread will be Demonland's greatest, destined for future posterity! Read by future generations inquisitive how a random, motley group of supporters rode the bumps on the way to the 2021 flag! Best not make a spelling error or say anything controversial...

Anyway, enjoy fellow 'landers. This year has been one hell of a ride. Pun intended. We've been nervous but ultimately calm brought upon by the fact that this team is bloody good!

Four quarters of good, uncompromising football will do it. Talk to you in the post match thread!

C'mon you Mighty Demons!

There's only been a few games this year where I wasn't a nervous wreck... both previous finals.

Maybe it was a coping mechanism, my MFCSS-scarred brain anticipating disappointment like in 2018.

...but we won. Twice. Could this be the real deal, at last?

I feel eerily calm right. I'm not sure if the nerves have finally settled, or if it's the beer talking. I expect I'll be a nervous wreck in the morning.

I'm so proud of what the team has achieved this year, it's beyond anything I expected. I just hope they leave nothing in the tank tomorrow.

Wear the colours proud, boys!

Point bum at toilet, mouth at ground. Not the other way around. Definitely don’t get caught transitioning in between. Ideally have a bucket on the floor. Had a bit of gastro in my time.

4:15am here. We’re already talking bodily function in the first ever Demonland GF Match Day thread. This is going to be a LONG day.

Remember when sleeping was a thing?

Yep I just woke from a dream sequence of two Dees goals. First was a coast to coast that was just shear will power of keeping it moving forward and pressure in the forward 50 ending with Kozzie getting the finishing touch. Then the second was to TMac after a brilliant run from Max draws a player so Tommy gets it out the back and snaps the goal. That was enough to wake me up.

I honestly don’t know if I'm going to sleep much more tonight.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
