It was after the Demons lost to the filth in the final round, and WC beat Adelaide to scrape in ahead of Melborne. She is a filth supporter ... Her post was something along the following lines ... "What's better than Collingwood beating Melbourne? Them missing out on the finals by 0.1%." Call me overly senstive, but it kinda reeks of taunting the little fat kid when he's just missed out on getting a game in the school footy team after thinking he/she was a real chance to get a game. If the Demons win, I'm tempted to post "Karma's a [censored]" ... and remind her of her post and draw to her attention the filth's 2021 ... sacked coach, finished 17th, board a shambles, President effectively sacked, independent review into racism, salary cap fiasco involving Treloar, Stephenson & Phillips. Would that be a bad thing to do? Hopefully the Dees win so I face this dilemna. Haven't had that personal vitriol Bingers but my best taunt was in Sydney this year when after being very visible in leading some cheering for the Dees was met with Pies supporters moving behind us and cheering more loudly. Eg we yell Melbourne they add sucks. Not very imaginative but they became louder and more abusive as they took control of the match. After the game a group of about Six called me over to come up the aisle past them. A little bit fearfully I decided best to confront them. I congratulated them on their exam win to open the discussion and they laughed and said they admired my level of supporting ang the passion I exhibited. A quite civilised an friendly discussion occurred as we all headed to the exit past the celebrating Pies fans while Dees fans were as Trac said embarrassesed to show much emotion. The Pies theme song rang out and as we separated I managed to get in a fight nap thrust of defiance . "Id rather be 4 points clear on top and looking like playing finals , than on the way down without a coach" I said, "the premiership looks more like a cakewalk for us than you." The boys initially looked shocked and I was concerned that their good humour might be replaced by a violent reaction. They looked at each other quizzically and one lady ghee, they all laughed and thumbs up and agreeing comments were made. We all left united by the joy of our game. I will miss more than anything the mingling of supporters at this Grand Final. Good luck to all those in WA, I hope you can enjoy the game and can celebrate with joy but also humility, be proud of the achievement and but be certain that we will all be able to wear our colours with joy confidence and pride again for years to come. 1 Quote
DaveyJones'sLocker 647 Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 I know we can win, but I have kept convincing myself over and over again it won’t happen, I assume it’s some self preservation mechanism. The nerves are starting to ease and now the emotions are coming to the forefront Not being able to be there watching it with my Dad really starting to hit home. If we lose I know it’s not the end of the world but just to know what that pure euphoria feels like once would probably be enough for the rest of my lifetime 3 Quote

spirit of norm smith 16,677 Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 (edited) What would a premiership mean? Deep breath. Excitement. Relief. Pride. We could talk about it for years and years and years and … A moment in life to enjoy with family and friends. As well as a need to load up on new Demons gear and premiership merchandise … from the poster to a cap to a new jumper to a team print to a new premiers polo !!! Maybe it's the pandemic and the lack of city atmosphere; maybe it's the distance between here and Perth; maybe it's the bittersweet end of the Nathan Jones fairytale; maybe it's the two-week bye; maybe it's the unfamiliarity of this whole situation; or maybe it's a whole combination of them all. Whatever it is, I'm yet to fully feel that Grand Final feeling, and I was hoping some Demonlanders might be able to help out, not just for me but for others out there feeling a bit the same way. So, what does this Grand Final mean to you? And what would a premiership, if you can dare to dream, mean to you? The world. 1 Quote

Deestroy All 14,266 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 For me, this could be my last chance to see one. I doubt I have another year left. Not to be a downer, just giving it some context. It’s all I want see in life, so it really is everything to me. My earliest memory was getting a Demons jumper off my uncle. It probably fit me 2 years later. And was my prized possession. Just my luck it was Melbourne, gotta do everything the hard way. Only knew one other Dees supporter in all of my schooling, none at footy training, and no real Demon supporting mates until the Internet came along. It was me and my uncle v the world. He’s not doing too well either and it sucks that we won’t be watching it together tomorrow (but superstition says it’s great because winning percentage is through the roof when we aren’t together). I converted my little brother from a Richmond supporter, so I owe him a flag or 3. I went to all the games in Melbourne from the mid 90’s to 2012, when I basically went straight from Richmond belting us at the G, to ICU with pneumonia. That’s [censored] dedication! And stupidity. I’ve had to take life easy ever since and never went to another game after that. So it’s been a hard team to follow, but I love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. We need it. I need it. Let’s get it. 4 1 11 Quote

Little Goffy 14,948 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I finally cracked. The weight and emotion of the last 15 years in particular hit me in a wave. I'm not actually nervous now. There's a certain calm acceptance that it is out of my hands but also a slightly savage demand for the very best from those who can shape things. 1 1 1 Quote
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I’ve written this a few times but for me 2019 was by far the worst season I’ve experienced as a Melbourne supporter. The end of 2018 was such a high, even with the West Coast thrashing at the end. Prior to that season I’d only ever been to one final, a loss to Geelong in 2005. Therefore, to be able to go see Melbourne win two finals against traditional powerhouse teams in front of over 90,000 people was for me my grand final because I just never thought I’d see us win one. To go back to not only being an average team but a genuinely bad team in 2019 hurt a lot, but there were some silver linings; I stopped letting the results of football games dictate how I feel, I consume a lot less football media (99% of which is absolutely awful), and we nailed the draft that year which is a big reason why we are playing in a Grand Final. I was much more nervous before the prelinary final because I just so badly wanted to see Melbourne be part of the build-up and the day itself. Win or lose this has been the best season and Melbourne team in my lifetime by far. Seeing Gawn hold up the cup would be amazing, but even if we lose I now trust this club from the top right down more than ever and actually enjoy watching football again. 3 2 Quote
London Demon 259 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 It would at stroke wipe out the pain experienced over the last 50 years. There are many but a few personal stand outs: 1 1987 Preliminary Final 2 round 1 v Collingwood 1983 3 Round 1 v Collingwood 1984 4 Round 21 v Collingwood 2017 5 Round 6 or thereabouts v Nth Melbourne 1985, lost by a point. 1 Quote
Cassiew 1,903 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 (edited) Certain people don’t want us to win. They couldn’t bear the fact of demon not being the leagues joke anymore. They would have to give up: The retort “how long has it been since Melbourne won a premiership? Trying to delusion us that there’s a “curse” preventing us from winning. Cheese platter, skiing, Range Rover jokes. Not being able to post This clown’s stupid video. Using the old “typical Melbourne” response. The choking tag. You are without a doubt part of the Demonland family. You’ve been a funny and witty contributor over the years, and here for the shittiest of MFC lows. I know it’s probably weird to feel a personal connection to people who we only know by a moniker and curated online persona, but I do anyway. We love you! Agree 100%. It's the hope that kills you. I was so pumped heading into that season, talking up the Dees, engaging in conversations with Hawks, Cats and Pies fans as an equal for a change, all those prime time slots to look forward to. I had genuine expectations of top 4. What a soul destroying spirit crushing season. Like you say though we nailed the draft that year so every cloud has a silver lining. 2019 is a distant memory now, we're built for sustained success and even if we don't win today i'm sure we will be challenging over the next few years. 1 Quote
