Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Two weeks to kill time so why not open this up for discussion?

Here's my list of all time favourite MFC goals.

4. Jeff White vs Bulldogs 2005

5. Adem Yze vs Adelaide SF 2002

6. David Schwarz vs Carlton QF 1994

9. David Neitz vs St.Kilda EF 2006

I can't separate any of these below.

Paul Gascoigne's third of the day against Aberdeen to sew up our 8th consecutive title.

The Ally McCoist overhead bicycle kick in extra time against Hibs to win the League Cup. I was there that day.

Davie Cooper mesmerising the Celtic defence at Hampden Park in 1979.

That Jorg Albertz piledriver free kick against Celtic in 1997.

Mark Hateley and Ally McCoist's goals against Leeds Utd at Elland Road in the European Cup in 1992.

Kemar Roofe's goal from his own half against Standard Liege in the Europa League last year.

And who could forget Archie Gemmill taking on half the Dutch defence to score for Scotland in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. A goal immortalised in the movie Trainspotting.

Oops, I nearly forgot Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' goal to knock the English out of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

(Serious post now.) There was a state of origin game where Gary Ablett (senior version) was on the line between the goal post and behind post, falling over backwards, got a boot on it, ball sailed high and squeezed in for a major. The angle was that severe, the ball should have got stuck between the posts. Really great goal. When state of origin meant something.

Three ones i'll never forget:

1. Jack Watts 2017 R12 V Coll

2. Liam Jurrah 2009 R12 V Ess

3. Jordan McMahon 2009 Final Round V Tigers

Oooooo good call on the Watts goal, that one had slipped my mind. Definitely up there.

1.  Allan Jackovich scissor kick goal vs North Melbourne as part of the 11.8 or so he kicked that day,

2.  TMac dying seconds in Perth, boot to ball in goalsquare while being tackled,

3.  Whoever it was that kicked the sealer vs the Filth at Victoria Park (Lovell maybe?). I have never seen a more toothless, dim-witted, foul-mouthed, lice-riddled throng of supporters, emboldened in their antisocial behaviour by their numbers and the familiarity of their dilapidated dump of a home ground than what I witnessed that day. The only time attending an AFL game where I genuinely feared for my safety at and after the game.

Edit: also happy to add Gawny's goal after the siren in round 23 this year. Won us the minor premiership, mentally shattered the cats (ref. Prelim Final), gave us our first after-the siren win in our VFL/AFL history (bear in mind Queen [censored]!ng Victoria was in the throne when the VFL started up), and slayed his own set-shot goal kicking demons.

Some top choices there.

May I add the debutant Christian Salem's Round 13, 2014 match winner v. Essendon, one of the ultimate team / length-of-the-ground / desperation / clutch goals; moreover, in dark times.

A type of goal we're getting rather more used to. And without the darkness.

Robbie Flowers Mark in the GOal Square and consequent goal to set things going against North in SF back  in his last year. *0 THousand in the crows and 75 barracking for Dees so St Robbie Delivered.

Jurrah's falling backward kick over his head. Did not realise hwo good until saw replays.

T Mac ( vs WC in Perth)& Gawny's goal vs Geelong

Take your pick after the Maximus Gawnus show on Freiday night.

For personal reasons I can't go past TMac's winner against the Eagles in Roound 14 2017. That was a weekend that changed my life, inspired by that amazing win on the Saturday night

Hard to go past I was in a hotel bar in Bali by myself watching with the barman and a few locals and half cut . Got a few strange looks but didn't care. Hugged Katut after that.

Another great goal I remember fondly was Leoncelli's winner in Adelaide to end a drought. The Ox won the boundary throw in near the centre , 'celli collected, ran forwards and sent it sailing through. No idea what year it was but I do remember exactly where I was when it happened and can infer it was a Friday night.

Another goal that felt significant but turned out to be a false hope was Hunt's torp from outside 50 after the half time siren to keep us in the game. Unfortunately we wasted it with a dismal second half. I have a feeling this might have been against the Crows too

As has been mentioned, for us old farts, #5 Froggie Crompton 1964 GF could only be surpassed by something similar in 2 weeks (though my heart may not stand up to it).

My favorite was a Dunstall goal.  I can't remember when, where or who against, but he went charging out at a ground ball near the HFF with the FB right on his tail and another opponent coming in from the opposite direction.  In an act that would be entirely illegal now, he dived into the legs of the oncoming player, catapulting him into the FB coming the other way and dropping them both, came up with the ball and calmly slotted it.

From there we have:

Watts beating the Pies,

Jackovich kissing his brother after kicking another goal on him,

Neitz's disallowed goal where he slapped the ball out of an opponent's hands and slotted it from 50 on the boundary only to have it called back as high contact because the ump was an [censored].

Tony Lockett, not for anything he did but the footage of the umpire seeing the ball flying at him, realising what was coming and dropping flat right before Lockett flew through the space to mark on the lead.  🤣

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
