And to think I was wondering how Iā€™d spend the weekend. The replay will be a joy to watch, and the one time of the year when I buy a Herald Sun. Well, hopefully, the second last time I do that.

    Now I do have to say a couple of notes:

    Iā€™m gutted (like so many here) that we arenā€™t seeing this live, itā€™s a cruel twist of fate but the players are playing for us even on the other side of the country. 

    There are going to be those who miss out that have deserved to be a part of it. Jonesy is the obvious one, Melksham is extremely unlikely, and of course poor Tommo who was in tears after the game. Itā€™s heartbreaking, but I love all of you guys. 

    On a positive, despite it not being in Melbourne I have to say thank you to the WA public for getting behind the Dees. They loved cheering for Max Gawn and I have no doubt that he was putting on a show for them. Great atmosphere, not gonna beat the G on GF day but nothing does. All aboard the Melbourne train!

    Agree the Perth support was awesome I gave my tickets to mates in Perth - they said it was like a Melb home game

    Harry Petty what can I say. From one of the worst first games Iā€™ve witnessed live v St Kilda,  to destroying the so called ā€˜3 headed monsterā€™ with May on one leg. (With all due respect to an unbelievable game from Lever).

    My pies mate who has literally never said anything complimentary about Melbourne in his life texted me one word during the third quarter: ā€œGAWN!!!!ā€

    I said in the pre game thread that I was hoping for us to give them a belting they would never forget.

    For it to actually happen is a surreal feeling.

    Been following the Dee's for 48 years, and this is the best side i have seen. The premiership feels like destiny.

    Also amazing, a packed Optus Stadium and barely a boo.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

      Itā€™s game day and the Demons are chasing a fourth straight win as we take on the high flying Hawks at the G. After decades of being tormented by the Hawks the Dees will be keen to extend their 7 year dominance over Hawthorn.

    • NON-MFC: Round 09

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturdayā€™s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon canā€™t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaideā€™s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the leagueā€™s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos.
