2m Peter at Essendon yesterday had me thinking about Weid. Persist I say, I would also be happy if Tmac took a rest, we need him in good shape for finals and I actually reckon Weid would be better in a mobile role a’la Tmac, even if not as good… yet.

  • 3 weeks later...

Collingwood ending 17th exposes us to the Weid walking without compo to Collingwood.

The flipside is that their second round pick will be a high one.

At 1st glance pick 20 might be pretty good for Sam from Woods. But it would turn into 23-25 quickly. I can however see Sam's best option would be to go to the Pies as it means he would be played every week much as Peter Wright has. And after 15 straight games 2M Peter came good, real good. I think if we kept Sam he would get no more than 5 games in a row before needing a stint at Casey, as we might have players pushing into his spot. He then 5 weeks later, gets another 4. That doesnt improve him or us. I dont know if pick 20 is fair or not, but it would seem to me to be a good deal.

How does it expose us? There pick 2 was traded to GWS and every other pick will be consumed from the Daicos bid.

he is out of contract and can therefore leave without being traded.

He only needs to bypass North and several players have taken this route before.

If Collingwood had finished say 13th the play would be far riskier for Collingwood

Will need to bypass more then just North. Collingwood have no picks probably until the 40s or 50s available once Daicos has been taken into consideration

North have expressed an interest in him.  I highly doubt he goes into the PSD, nor do Collingwood take that risk if they really want him.

If he's out of contract Collingwood do not have to offer any picks whatsoever.

He goes into the PSD not the general draft.

There is a very real possibility that Weid just doesn't attract the sort of interest that would make leaving an attractive option.

He will go to North if he does leave. Pies don't have the currency unless we accept futures.

I think he will, but a lot whether he stays or leaves will be dependent on whether feels part of the future and part of the push towards us becoming a regular force. If he’s constantly going to be behind players then leaving to just about any club where he can get first team experience will be of benefit to him. It’s a bit of a shame the AFL doesn’t have a loan system similar to Football in Europe and the UK. I would gladly loan him to another club for a year.

North supporters would be browned off if that happened.

Pick 20, we would be lucky to get pick 40 for him, he is needed on our list we have no other tall forward.

Lets be honest, TMac hasn't been any good for the last 12 odd weeks, the start of the season amazing but has fallen away.  B Brown isn't really setting the world on fire kicking some goals but yet to really have an outstanding game, M Brown isn't getting any younger, Daw isn't a forward.

I agree that I think our first preference would be to keep hold of him, so I think largely the ball will be in Sam’s court if we can convince him that a future exists with us. But for now he’s just not getting a look in at all, I really would have liked to see him get a run vs Adelaide but I understand why the club didn’t go down that direction.

I would like him to stay and back himself in in a similar way the TMac did. Tom was fantastic in the beginning of the year (hell people were talking AA squad at one point) but he has tapered so form can be fleeting sometimes and as Tom himself has experienced, you never know when an opportunity might just drop at your feet. You’ve just got to be good enough to take it.

Incredible to think that pre-season it was all about the combo of Weid/Brown.

Congrats on the first negative comment all week in this glorious week, good to keep the place grounded!

Mitch Cleary just said that Sam Weideman is looking at his options but there seem to be little interest out there.

Jury is still out for mine with two metre Peter. I think he's a natural lead up to the ball type player but in general play has the Natanui's about him i.e cant get the ball, doesn't read it well. some players have a purple patch, much like the Weid has had.

Was the comment incorrect.

If we packaged Weid with our future 1st Round pick and a few other items (potentially the likes of Bailey Laurie, this year's 2nd Round pick etc), what are the chances of getting a hold of Gold Coast's 1st Rounder? Would get us access to Mac Andrew who we should rightfully have access to!

Unlikely I know, but I don't want to see us miss out on this kid!

They would be MadAsHell to do that.

Was just about to post the same thing.

I would 100% keep him if there is a chance we can.

But I suspect he is going to want to play more senior football than he is likely to play with us next season if Brown and tmac are not injured.

So he is likely to want out.

His potential sweetens the pot a bit but I don't think his record is such that he has much trade value.

I'd prefer to keep him, however i do see potential if a team did want him that our 2022 first rounder and Weid might be able to get us back into the first round of this years draft, i think it'd be smart for us to continue to build and add to our young core, great that we're a chance at a flag but i'm greedy and want to see us win 3-4

In a more flattering light, I'd prefer to describe you as ambitious  @Dwight Schrute.

Weid can get his hands on the ball, which is the first requirement, unfortunately he can't hold his marks. He seems to me to have his palms both facing out in front of him, towards the ball and slaps at the ball instead of grabbing it.

It will come together for him but it may be too late.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
