This week's taking forever so to pass time I dug a bit into Geelong's non GMBH/Simonds record under Scott since 2011 and their finals record (below in brackets) in the same year.  They really have probably been a 5th to 10th team most years away from GMBH stadium, so their finals record is not that surprising. Ironically this year and 2016 are the only years they have performed at top 4 level away from home (and barely top 4 level).

To be 9 goals in front of Cats at half time would be very sweet on Friday night!

While very disappointed to not be at the Footy on Friday night, I would be delighted if I could relive one of my three favourite finals memories:

- 87 Night Grand Final when we beat Bombers by a point (I know not a real final but at that stage was the closest we had gone to a final in 23 years)

- 87 Elimination final when we beat North by over 100 points (I recall being deliriously happy)

- 2018 Elimination final beating the Cats (Joy of beating smug Cats)

Having been waiting for 52 years of supporting the Demons, winning Friday night would be fantastic to just give us a shot at a flag, and beating the Cats would be that little bit sweeter, also with the knowledge that we would go into GF with a big chance, different to those most recent GF experiences of 88 & 2000!

To all the Demon supporters going on Friday night, add a bit extra voice to your support of the Demons on Friday night on behalf of all Vic and other Demon supporters who can't be at Optus in person!

9 finals campaigns and only one GF.    they have had sustained success to a degree but they have not yet proven they can beat the draft/equalisation model.  and I hope they never do

I hope hunt is fit.  We'll run over Geelong in the last quarter (They always fade towards the end as the older players struggle).  We need his run more than Hibbo's bulk.

I’m not sure I’ve ever felt more pumped for a game than this. This is intense.

I think we need hibbos ability to play tall and small more than hunts run. Hibbo can still run it off half back although he had lost a yard. Having Bowey offsets any worry about run  as his kicking is elite and an executed kick moves faster than any player can run

I am confident we will win. Not concerned about 2018, we are not facing west coast and the home crowd factor.

I am concerned that we might sit back like witches hats at training and watch jeelong kick multiple goals like couple of weeks ago. They will not allow such a cone back again. So hard at it all game. 
 

we have been the best team all year, this week and the GF it is time to prove it for all to see. If we wait much longer RDB will be too frail to pass the cup or raise the flag. 
 

I do like having the whole list being part of the build up, whether they make the team list or not. And I like the past players putting in a bit of input as well. All about developing a culture that lasts.  We are the administration, the players, the past players and the whole supporters base. 
it’s our time.  Not a walk in the park but I really think it’s ours to lose if we do not dare to dream.  We have the players with the ability.

AFL.com has Hibberd and Hunt in for Smith and Bowey. Why would Bowey be dropped? He's been great. Surely Hibberd doesn't have to come in Hunt can play the role on Rohan.

Much as you might expect this to be the case, it isn't true.

Geelong won 14 of 22 fourth quarters in the H&A season. That was one more than us.

They are actually slow starters, only winning 9 first quarters in the H&A season (we won 13).

I’ve noticed that the media narrative this week regarding Melbourne has all been about “dare to dream” and the hope to break the 57 year drought, while for the few articles regarding Geelong and any player interviews are all about “how will you stop Melbourne?” etc. Just seems the external expectation on Melbourne is 10x that of Geelong. 
 

A silver lining in this final series for us is being in a hub and not being distracted by all the external pressure.

To be fair though while Hibs kept him down as such it was Franklin's first game back from an injury lay off.

While I agree with you, I don't think the players will be immune to the support coming their way. All Australians love an underdog and I know we're not that on current form but we are in the sense of 57yrs of history. I've had a look at how the Cats are promoting  support in WA and it is nothing by comparison to what the MFC are doing. I think the Cats are going to get a big shock about how much the crowd will be behind Melbourne and we have first hand experience of what that is like in a negative sense. Will be fabulous to see the shoe on the other foot after we have been sent down the highway to ****tt park for so many years.

Granted the sentiment appears to be that we are expected to win but there is an emerging narrative that the Cats maybe on their last life and that would be just as much if not more pressure for the Cats.

They are old, growing slower, recovery taking longer, preseasons not getting any easier etc whilst we have the best part of 5 years with the current group and probably longer if we recruit right, that should challenge again in the years to come.
