How was this framed? Because saying his "main priority" is us is quite a big statement to just throw out there...

Just re-watched AFL tonight on Fox

Ralph said in regards to Cerra

"I think he'll certainly get to the Carlton Football Club. He hasn't made his official deceleration."

"i think if he had his druthers, i think he would prefer to get to Melbourne. Maybe call that 60-40. That's certainly something He's weighing up.

"Best mates with Ed Langdon there, Can see the window at Melbourne. But there is just no way he can get there given they haven't got a first rounder, they've given that to Brisbane,

"they'd have to give up someone like a WA player like Luke Jackson, That is not going to happen."

He went on to compare the scenario to Chris Judd, when he wanted to go to Collingwood, but they didn't have the trade pieces to get it done, so he got traded to Carlton

I get he isn't directly comparing the value of the two, but throwing in the Judd trade as an example is just unreal haha

How about Jack Viney?

Just when you think someone can't go any lower in your estimation. 👆

I can confirm that a club official unofficially met with the Fremantle Dockers and unofficially offered 2 future 1st round picks. Freo simply replied what use is 2 future pick 18’s to them, we would need to come back with a better offer.

I'd this legit? How do we have 2 future 1st round picks?

Its not.

I hear last Friday's pitch included a #positivelingers keep cup and t-shirt as well as the free muffin offer down at Olive at Loch. No wonder his manager was impressed.

No mate it’s not, it was my attempt at humour.  I was inferring we win the next couple of flags which would mean we only have pick 18 in the next couple of drafts.

We're potentially dealing with Peter Bell so I have believed it...

But not bad by you..

The fact that nobody wants to coach there has to be a massive factor. 3 have already passed up the gig. It cannot be ignored. If he goes there then it’s clear he is more interested in the $$$ and if that’s the case then that’s the best outcome for all involved.

If I start with a red paper clip and keep trading up, do you think we can get Adam Cerra?...

I think that's fair😊

It might also mean he wants to come to Vic and Carlton are one of the only clubs with both the capital and the will to get a trade done. Richmond were talked about earlier this year and seem to have the capital I wonder why they've cooled? Or Cerra just doesn't want to go there (unlikely)?

I think the Visy Board 'job' had more to do with him going to the blues than anything else ... Ralph went back a fair way to come up with that doozy

Thinking outside the box here, Cerra to Carlton as player/coach, names Malthouse as his successor, trades himself and McKay to us for Weid and Dogga’s tooth.

Interesting comments from Simon Garlick of Freo. Coincidence of time?

Speaking on 6PR’s Sportsday WA, Garlick said the club hadn’t had “detailed discussion” around Cerra’s movements and potential suitors of late, but expected talks to ramp up in the coming weeks.

“It’s still really early in that piece, but that’ll start to heat up I’d suggest in the next two to three weeks in particular.”

To me this reeks of Isaac Smith burning us last year holding off for Geelong to finish their finals campaign to come out and nominate them as his club of choice. Can sense Cerra doing a similar thing burning Carlton waiting for us to finish our campaign. If he was set on Carlton he probably would've nominated them by now.

You had me until Dogga's tooth, that's way overs

Sam Edmond on SEN just said Melbourne have made a strong pitch to Cerra and also thinks the delay in Cerra nominating a club has Melbourne right in the mix. Financially we can get the deal done we might have to trade out a required player to help get the deal done.

Getting Cerra seems like a bit of a fanciful dream. But if we can pull this off then Jesus H Christ I will not be unhappy about that little midfield addition.

Correct, what a month it could be a flag picking up a bloke that will make us better then hopefully the footy gods keep smiling on us to deliver Andrew, Woey Jnr and another developing tall in the draft.

My god this would be a HUGE get for the footy club.

Still remember Darren Bewick his Eastern Rangers coach saying he could potentially be in the same calibre as Christian Petracca who he also coached.

If anyone watched Cerra this year would know he makes our midfield go up a whole new level next year.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
