Jake Lever Take A Bow

Proven performer on the biggest stage too.

Will be invaluable if we make the big one.

Phenomenal leader.

And best moustache in the AFL

Cool headed enough to kick to max and not go the torp.

Experience counts.

Has been an amazing acquisition. I really like how he thinks his way through. That set play to Gawn showed real nous. Could easily have blazed away. He has been a massive factor in our rise.

The range of important stats which both May and Lever feature in prominently is all the more impressive because of how well they shared the burden of responsibility.

On a less dramatic note, Lever was the player who spent the most time actually on the field in the 2021 home and away season with 22 games 99.14% time on ground.

Confusing Archimedes no end, Lever has been an immovable object.

Ranked 271st for score involvements but that one must count for extra.

Take a bow Jason Taylor and Simon Goodwin (and probably Josh Mahoney, - would take a brave poster to still complain that we paid too much). Step one - identify and draft elite midfield talent. Step two, bring in two defensive lynchpins to provide the foundations for your structure.

Thought he had a mare in the first half. The defence were fumbly, bumping into each other and woefully out of sorts. This was probably exemplified by the speed of the ball movement into the Geelong fwd 50 but to me they seems way off.

But boy did lever turn it around in the second half. Magnificent effort. Really stood up when it counted.

And even Smith did a pretty good job on Rohan who had abot 4 complete stuff ups in the last quarter alone.

And there are still those that think OMac and Frost were the answer...'oh but they got us into the finals in 2018..."

It’s interesting as well in that media knobs and some supporters were doubting him in his first 8 MFC games.

He was inexplicably played one out on Esava Ratagoulea in his first game, got beaten and was immediately written off by a reactionary plurality.

Just goes to show that there is a longer game in motion!

Completely suckered the Geelong backs into thinking he was taking a shot:

Not sure if it warrants it's own thread but Alex Neal-Bullen finished the season with the most tackles inside-50.

Incredibly, Pickett missed out on being second by just a couple of tackles, finishing 3rd.

Honorable mentions go to Viney, McDonald and Brown (Yep, Ben Brown) who all finished in the top 30 based on average per game.

one of the greatest bargain trades you could ever come across - lever and petty for lachie o'brien, liam stocker, and robbie young

o'brien and stocker are super average players

young lasted two years on the aints' list before being delisted

Edited by whatwhat say what

I'm surprised it was only 94 intercept marks for the year. It looked like he took about 50 in the second half last night alone.

But ...but... “2 first rounders..Josh Mahoney folded... our recruiting is a disgrace” so glad we can finally put this topic to bed! Lever was a fantastic get. And we picked up Petty too ffs... forgot about that.

I though they were pretty well organised in the first quarter, they were just all at sea when the ball was coming in like a pinball in the second. Geelong backs had the same issue in the last. Almost impossible to defend an onslaught like that.

Jake Lever is one of our great imports, a great mark, a good kick and has a great footy brain, bringing in Steven May to compliment Jake was a stroke of genius and boy are we grateful that they are ours. Go Dees.!!!!!

Now it’s become crystal clear as to why Adelaide charged us 2 first rounders to get him.

Clearly one of the best defenders in the game, and it’s pretty awesome that we’ve got both Petracca and Lever from the 2014 draft.

Jake Lever was too expensive ("two first rounders" etc.).

Steven May was too expensive ("we gave up Hogan/pick 6/Ben KIng for May" etc.).

Whatever happens from here, I hope (but do not expect at all) that Demonlanders learn from this the next time we trade out a high draft pick for an established player.

Absolute rock. Jake the snake!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
