If anyone doubted Gawn's ability as a leader that should be completely put to bed after his last quarter tonight.  As great as Oliver was, Gawn was the momentum changer in the last.  Jackson was a non event tonight and Gawn's last quarter was one of the great Captain's efforts.  For those who followed footy in the 80's, that shot at goal after the siren might bring back memories of 1987 final round.  Steve Kernahan had to do the same as Max to seal top spot for Carlton.  He did, and it probably won them the flag.  Let's hope history repeats.

Plllease, Grapeviney banned me for saying fluck. Be careful, unless he's out to getcha.

Come on old chap surely we can celebrate something i haven't seen in my lifetime. and i was at 186

Now that my heart rate is below 160 bpm, have typed effusively into Demonland, have marched around my house with arms in the air as if I kicked the winning goal, and the family have gone to bed - I have 2 confessions to make:

1. At 3/4 time I said to my oldest son (21 yo) that the 2021 Dees can kick 6 goals to 0 in a quarter but I couldn't see it happening.

2. I couldn't watch Max kick for goal. I just couldn't.

Sitting here at my laptop right now, I feel really good, and can't wait for the finals to start.

P.S. - is it wrong that I would like to see a picture of Selwood's face after Max kicked the goal?

It was said tonight that this was the very first time that the Cats have lost at Kardinia with such a big lead in the 3 rd quarter ! Kudos Dees

Heart slowly returning to normal . I thought I was about to burst my aorta

I asked the question earlier and am still waiting for the intel.

From Swamp?

I've dreaded games in Geelong for so long. So much misery attached to games there. One of the great wins in the history of our club. Hopefully, defines the season and an era.

Apparently that was the last time a captain kicked the winner after the siren. And yeah, they won the flag that year.

What did he say, he couldn’t possibly have complained about the 50m penalty…

Yep

Haven't seen one of those paid in a while, strange one

But also that the deliberate OOB was also a strange one

Hence it was a "comedy of errors"

My two kids (8 and 6 yo) were going nuts. My 8 year old said his legs were still shaking 5 minutes after the game

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
