So do we go:

May - Hawkins
Petty - Cameron
Smith - Rohan

?

Yep Smith was the best matchup on Rohan. Has the most speed in our D50 and a good test going into finals

You were right. Hibbo out. Smith still in.
I’m confused.

I think Smith did well last week and has been recognised by the match cttee that maybe we get some more game time into him, deservedly, as back up material for the finals.

Thought Hibbo would be the natural choice to play on Rohan. He could have a field day if he gets hold of Smith

Hibberd not as good in the air as Smith - one of Roham's strengths.

Maybe even in the team to allow bench time for May or Petty.

Smith did play really well last week. Hope we haven't gone to tall in defence.

Glad to see may, McDonald and viney back.

I don’t know how Sparrow is in ahead of JJ. Unless JJ is sore he is just a better player.

Maybe "resting" JJ and having another look at Sparrow

I disagree with Smith holding his spot over Hibberd and Sparrow holding his spot over Jordon.

But, neither is an egregiously bad decision.

If Port wins, I truly hope Smith proves me wrong.

I am sure the selection panel will be happy

Smith might be worth a try on Cameron.

His athleticism would give him a show of keeping up on the lead and in the air.

Smith could run off Cameron and give his mammies a real test.

Sore mammies would make chest marking quite difficult I guess.

Hibbo is almost cooked

Yep. Bad signs when he goes to ground and sliding to get to the ground ball. You notice that lately?

Agree - he will probably start on Rohan but could be back up for Cameron in case Petty struggles with either of Cameron or Hawkins. I reckon Riv could possibly cover Rohan. Thought hibberd might play on Danger when he goes forward (as he did successfully on Martin). Not sure he has the smarts, but athletically Smith could play on all of Cameron, Rohan and Dangerfield. Might be a bit of frost-ball heart in mouth stuff!

Did you just morph into @Demonstone

- Hibbo and Melksham were average last week.
- Salem, Bowey and Rivers provide enough pace in the backline

-  Smith had a great 1st half and deserves to retain his spot.

Selectors want an extra tall defender keeping smith ,

Smith playing hunts role.

Smith will provide help in some aerial contests,  and will find himself isolated against a tall at some points though the game (just as Hunt does), but as we saw last year he is no good defensively one on one.

Half back flanker, run and carry and overlap run will be his go.

I would guess that Jordon is being rested given the lack of a week off. Might be a similar deal with Hibberd and Smith. On the one hand, Hibberd is old enough to benefit from a week off as well as mature enough to not lose form while away. On the other hand, after so much time out of the game Smith needs to be tested and run in if he is going to be any part of our finals effort.

This is the last chance to test any strategies/tactics or any match ups or whether any particular footballer is the one we need over another.

While I don't think we should - or are - taking this game lightly, both clubs would want to keep something in reserve. We shouldn't give everything away to be di-sected by opposition in games when we do meet in the finals. I suspect that the outcome of Friday night's game may affect the way we play. We want to avoid an away game against Port in Adelaide but any other scenario in the first week of finals is K by me.

Would the AFL schedule a game in Adelaide where Port were the away team if crowds could attend there but not in Vic?

Jordon rested for sure. And likely replaces Sparrow.

Hibberd likely not rested, given the stakes. Might have played his last game this season

Sorry binny, couldn't disagree more with this. He may run off his opponent at times, but Smith is being used specifically as a match up for Rohan IMO.

Rivers, Salem, Bowey along with Langdon will provide the run and carry most of the time. This is a coach who spent big money and big trade currency to fix our back half turnovers (bye bye Frosty), so I have high doubts he would then turn to Joel Smith the week before finals to provide our run and carry out of the back line.

Last year was a year ago - don't know, but he may have addressed this.  Looked OK one on one last week, at times.

Wouldn't put it past them especially v Melbourne.  But we can win there anyway.

Like the changes,  Smith gets his chance.  But could we be to tall with him?  Think he is in the side to lock down and allow Bowie and Salem to run off.

Bowie has taken Hibbards role and is a much better user by foot,  but Hibbo must keep in touch in case he comes up against a stringer, Greene in the finals as he is the best match up for them.

Good monitor to be in guys with the likes of Weidemen, Hibbard, Jones, Jordon, Melksham, Baker as our back ups.

Let's do it!!

Interesting Cats resting Higgins and good news for us. Think they’d have played him if the bye next week was happening.

Dees coaches have a lot of faith in Sparrow and he will make a contest and has legs. Clearly Jordon being managed and that’s a win for the first week of finals!

I don’t see what they see in Sparrow.

I get the Jordon omission though. The Jordon of round 1-17 has been far superior to the Jordon of rounds 18-22

I do.  Sparrow was on the bottom of so many packs last game.  Now if he could improve his disposal.....

Apparently the "Home" sides will have a say in where they play.  Melbourne have said they would prefer to play at an empty MCG than travel.  But if they had too id say they would play in Perth so Port have to travel as well.  Not sure if Tasmania or Brisbane are options.
