I don't normally pay attention to player interviews as they are ridden with boring cliches and straight bats. But Steven May has long been an exception to the rule and I'll always make sure to tune in when he's on. This is his best one yet IMO.

What a fantastic acquisition this guy has been, and arguably the most important piece of our premiership tilt.

agree. worth everything we paid. he does bite off a bit more than he can chew with some kicks, but thats ok, i can live with that.

Yep. The unofficial Captain (of Defence)

Changed the whole style of the team along with Mr Ed

I'll have to have a listen. I tuned out of SEN a while back when Dwayne Russell kept asking the same boring questions and you could predict the answer.

To be honest i hadn’t seen a hell of a lot of him at the Suns and wasn’t really keen on letting Jesse go. Around the time we traded for him a few posters stated getting May would be huge for us and I was hoping they were spot on with their comments since they’d seen a lot more of him. They were more than spot on, May has simply been brilliant the last two seasons.

He has come good after a shake start.

May,Lever,Rivers , Petty ,Salem..just need one more with run and with  a bit of muscle on Trent and its a backline we will remember.

Bowey & Hunt should suffice?

So refreshing to hear someone so honest. None of the usual banal answers. And really well-spoken, too.

My love for this man knows no bounds.

Clayton Oliver is his favourite player.... Loved hearing that!

Hunt isn't in that stratosphere.

They could that good for a threepeat.

We've already forgotten Jetta?

I don't know about Bowey yet

Should be our skipper, with Lever as vice.

Let Max just focus on footy.

Nah, a MFC  Captain should have a monocle and moustache.

Lever is the man for the job.

Great interview had Garry and Tim on side in a flash they were effusive in their praise for Steven , I loved the interview as well so honest and well spoken a real on ground coach and leader.

My favourite player. Smart, articulate, tough. A born leader and a future coach. We’re lucky to have him at the Dees

Not only a great footballer and leader, but an outstanding ambassador for our Club.  His openness and honesty in the media is so refreshing.

What a fantastic interview. Every supporter of the MFC should listen to that. And then vote for May should he ever enter politics. Candid. Honest. No spin. Just a real, genuine person. I'm sad that that should be so refreshing, but it is.

I don't want to turn this wonderful thread into a racism subject but this is so atypical of the ignorance and intolerance out there. So many of the haters wouldn't even know that May is a proud indigenous man. Much like Franklin he isn't "seen" like that. Some people are just stupid and don't seem to  recognize that EVERYONE has value ( well, except the bigot, fascist, bully boys). Damn, now I'm caught in a web of my own making, if everyone has value, do bigot's, fascist's and bully boys have value?

OMG. I'm starting to sound like RM.

I agree, must be time for bed. I had no idea there was anyone who didn't know he is a proud man of indigenous heritage. And I don't see how the outpouring of admiration and support for him in this thread is anything but people showing respect to a very well liked player of the MFC.

Is that a question, an affirmation, a spelling mistake or a bodily movement?

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
