I wouldn't have guess the Dunstan one!  Saints fans regularly lament his disposal but he does add grunt.

who would have thought the we would lack inside mid depth?!  Sparrow, Harmes, Gus, Jordon are there but I agree an extra experienced big bodied inside mid would be handy as injuries are inevitable

Fair enough, I guess we do need extra cover in the event Oliver/Petracca/Viney get injured - I'm just wary as to why St Kilda would throw him out the door for nothing I always get alarm bells when a player is discarded like that...

the Saints have plenty of mids with average disposal.  they need some class

I think it is more about cover for viney.

The inside defensive mid role has become a specialist role, with libba and viney being the template.

The same complaint Dockers fans had about Lingers - and then they boo him when he collects his medal!

The one thing about our game plan it doesn't rely as much on precise delivery as it does on G&D.

Something doesn't add up

How were they potentially keen on Treloar last year, and now how a salary cap that's stuffed to the point they're forced to do salary dumps?

They were keen on Treloar 2 years ago more than last year, but they now have a very talented list but can’t bring it together to form a team.

They have about 15 talented young players who all get massive overs to stay. Then have about 15 senior guys who all took similar contracts to either stay or go there.

The crunch on list spots and salary cap has really hurt them as it is all clubs.

But Melbourne go to Gawn, Lever, Petracca, Salem, Viney and give them extra years to take the cap burden off. Gold Coast can’t do that because they don’t have reliable veterans that they trust to carry extra years. Witts, maybe Swallow, maybe Collins but really it’s slim pickings

They’d like to do that with Max King and Touk Miller but those guys are committing or certainly not at below market rate

I like the idea of Dunstan in red and blue. Hard bodied, don't think we've seen the best of him at the Saints

Watch Chocco weave his disposal magic on him if he does come over.

Reading the below article, it looks like he just wants to feel part of something and enjoy his footy. Get him on the phone with Goody and he's ours - players seem to love him (even when we were no good).

wow that is fairly damning on the Saints culture.  Players fall out of favour which is fine but the Saints have not been good in recent times are respecting their players, especially outgoing players

Chocco can change his kick and perhaps work some extra magic somehow, somewhere.

I don't want Dunstan to take minutes from Sparrow.

Sparrow is going to be crazy good.

If they can squeeze him in then sure, but nothing lost if he goes elsewhere I guess.

I'm more keen to get Laurie, Sparrow and Jordon more game time

Can someone tell Carlton that the objective isn't to collect the most footy cards?

Is there anyone they aren't trying to poach?

fwiw, i think hewett will prove a far more valuable pick-up than any of their high-priced imports in mcgovern, martin, williams, or saad

i just can't fathom how they're paying them all, particularly with walsh out of contract at the end of 2022

Apparently Sos did a good job of front loading contracts. Remember the Jack Martin deal they gave to stop us poaching him?

But apart from that the likes of Dow, O’Brien and so many other young players just haven’t come on.

The amount of money we have to set aside for the likes of Jacko, Riv, Kos and so on they can just spend on imports.

Whoever we can entice that has an existing interest for the MFC, Chocko and Yze are going to be incredibly important to the development that we would need, with the intent of topping-up our existing 22 best, that would include a good stint at Casey for the bread & butter entree.

The question is whether this information is from the MFC or his manager trying to get more money for his client from other clubs.

I agree that he would need Mark Williams to clean up his disposal but he would probably be a better player in the MFC surrounded by Gawn Jackson Oliver Petracca and Viney, a la Vin Catoggio was at Carlton before coming the MFC.

Knew Dunstan was on the outer for much of last year.....He finally got a crack in the Seniors, was B.O.G. in a few of them after some great form in the 2's.   Saints had a pretty average year, for them to pigeon-hole a bloke that puts his heart and soul into it every time he plays it is only going to diminish their prospects.   Guy has a heap to prove and wants to be part of a winning culture and valued by his team/coaches.   Would be a great fit for us imo, is still improving as a player, will not cost a fortune and will have a point to prove.  All for this one coming to us....He would look much better in Melbourne colours!

Essendon are making a huge play for the Gold Coast's King.  If not this year, they are doing incredible groundwork for the future.

Several Clubs enquired about AVB with Essendon being the most interested.

Was desperately hoping we would be making a play for King. Salary cap only goes so far I guess.

Presuming AVB wouldn't net as much at all in a trade. 4th rounder or later I'd imagine.

Vin Catoggio was a legend. Once asked to describe the best goal he ever kicked and he said something like this:

The ball came down into the goal square, I flew for the mark but spilt it. I got to my feet, baulked, ducked, wrong footed, sold the dummy and put it through. Only thing, I was the only player in the square at the time.

I don't think King would have been in our plans at this stage. Our major salary will go to players like Trac, Oliver, Salem & Jacko soon.

TBH I prefer Jacko to the King brothers.

was reading about a salary dump trade GC/North were looking at which would be roughly be as follows;

North Melbourne acquire Daniel Macpherson (paying majority of the wage) and Pick 19

Gold Coast Get either late 3rd of 4th round.

Would the AFL approve this trade?

they approved rhys palmer for pick 107 going a couple of years back so i think they'd be ok with this too

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
