Tigers - Tiges

Kangaroos - Roos

Bulldogs - Dogs

& more. Bit of a long-standing tradition to shorten your club’s name, no?

At least we’re not the Magpies. Imagine being unfamiliar with the game and thinking that a club had named themselves after an oven-baked snack.

I still recognise what those three are even in a shortened version Mel.

WTF is a Dee?  Half a Demon?   A neutered one?

That B Taylor needs to shut completely up. He called Hunt Langdon. He continually barracks for any and all opposition sides against Melbourne. He adds no intelligent commentary. He never comments on poor umpiring decisions when they go against Melbourne.

And how quiet did he go in the 3rd qtr when we powered ahead!

I've been listening to the summary of the last 15 minutes - how the WC big dogs got them back into the game.  Isn't that the major problem with them?  In the third quarter, when the game was essentially won, Gawn smashed NicNat.  NN didn't trouble the statisticians for the quarter in terms of disposals, whereas Gawn was dancing around like a ruck rover.  Some of his field kicking (including on the left) was amazing.  Same with Yeo - a great last quarter no doubt, but again only when there was nothing to lose.  No doubt we'll hear from Gerard Healy about how great they are but in reality they are generally a lazy, conditional footy team.  I can't see them making finals now and had we not had the interruption last night, we win that game very comfortably.

Nibbler gunned it tonight. Well done!

Any word on Hunts injury?

Back to his best form and the same with Luke Jackson. Thought Rivers and Petty were as well.

Gee that Bowey is a keeper.

Bb is showing us why we lured him.

If Fritta gets back to his best as well, its going to be a potent forward line.

Hunt was laughing with the boys after the win. Either its not too bad or it is and the bloke is incredibly positive.

At the ground last night after the full time siren you would think the handful of Dees fans would be a little disappointed with the umpiring performance. No, it was the Eagles fans en masse leaning over the fence and hurling abuse at the umpires. One of the most disgusting supporter groups in the country. Make Essendon supporters look half decent after that effort.

106,000 of the dumbest mother [censored] in WA. Just cry and carry one like a pack of drunk hyenas.
I don’t know a single person outside of their supporters who doesn’t despise them. A club of drug sniffing, self entitled, arrogant dumbarses.

Great post.

Gawn was superb. He was crumbing like a small rover at times and in slippery conditions.

Captains effort.

hmm i don’t think so. off the top of my head i’m pretty sure we won 16 in 1990. but there ARE still 2 games to go and either way it’s a great accomplishment.

You’re spot on….my mistake. I should’ve posted something like “only the 7th time in our very long history that we’ve won 15 home and away games”

It might have been commented upon already but what was the play on after the whistle went for Spargo’s mark in the last quarter. The whistle and the call happened so quickly and I’m sure that he hadn’t played on anyway.

Another umpiring debacle.

The salty West Coast fans crying that a 50 wasn't paid against Petty are hilarious.

Wow, just WOW. Free kicks 28 to 17. Should change their name from the Eagles to the Pelicans.

Nothing can be taken from the last 15 minutes of that game. Other than yet another reminder of our poor kicking for goals.

We went into save mode with a full 10 minutes of the game to go. Half a quarter. And as a result conceded something like 10 plus inside 50s in a row.

Should we have kept the pedal to the metal? Nope.

If anything we could have looked for even more opportunities to slow the game down eg chip it around our back half. And in the back of all the players' mind would have been, having the game sewn up,  not wanting to get injured with so much to play for.

We saved a bit of energy - and i was so pleased we didn't cop any more injuries - and still won by close to 2 goals. Job done.

If the game had continued (ie no lightning break) we probably would have put the cue in the rack at the same point of the game. But likely would have had a seven goal lead. The rain was lashing down and we had the ball trapped in our forward half.

But the key things was, as you say nik nat, who i maintain is the most over rated player in the AFL, was getting completely smashed by Gawn and Jackson.

In large part that is becuase Nik Nat is so obviously unfit. Must be carrying 5-10 kg too much weight. He was totally out on his feet. And so was half their other players.

The break was a gift from god for them. 15 minutes of burst football is all Nik Nat can muster.

Nowhere have I diminished the win. I’ve only taken umbrage at placing our record of 7-2 against top 8 sides as the pinnacle of our season so far.

No one placed our 7-2 record against the top 8 "as the pinnacle of our season so far" except you.

All I did was note it. You're the one who saw it and blew up.

Which speaks volumes of your attitude, one which IMO is horrendous. You're all about the "gold medal", not setting for silver/bronze. We won't win the gold if we don't win H&A games and finish top 4. Last night was a win that secures top 4. It is literally a key step towards the target you say is so important.

And again. No one other than you took that post to mean everyone's satisfied with the H&A wins to date.

Muting the commentary I always thought was such a Dad thing to do.  Last night I did it from halfway through the first qtr,  the commentary has become hideous

If only you could mute the commentary and still hear the sounds of the game. You need to hear the umpires whistle I think. I have it as quiet as I possibly can.

Nope, I reckon AVB provided enough professional free kicks (and the associated physical rattling of WC players) that he played his role well and had a few nice kicks.

Here we go again with the vandenBerg myths.

"Professional free kicks"? He [censored] gave West Coast a goal with a ridiculous push in the back when the ball was going over the boundary line. Nothing "professional" about it, it was moronic.

Unfortunately he doesn't appear to have improved that aspect of his game. Meanwhile he was only on the ground for 50% of the game but had 6 clangers, our second-most.

He doesn't add anywhere near enough to our side to offset his mistakes and what are blatantly unprofessional free kicks.

It's insane that he gets praise for that sort of game. If Viney did the same thing he'd be pilloried.

Two of Josh Kennedy's goals were arguably two of the worst connections with a footy to still go through the big sticks ever

Lucky they got as close as they did - has a game ever been stopped for lightening before ?

I was surprised by the loud booing for the umpires as well given the armchair ride they had with iffy decisions. My favourite moment was at the start of the second quarter when Darling got that soft free and a goal for a non existent push in the back. A WC fan next to me agreed the free was not there but was payback for all the frees we got in the first quarter. I checked and the frees were 6-3 in their favour in the first quarter.

Thrilled with that win, too many horrific memories over there. Another +1 on the Bowey train, already oozing class and clean in the wet. May & Lever handling the gorillas and nice to rattle their defensive stocks with Brown crashing packs and causing headaches.

Trac & Oliver what a dream duo. Go Dees!

You have to be impressed with the youth in our side.  They will have up and down games but Jackson, Pickett, Rivers, Jordon, Bowey, Petty, Spargo and I like Sparrow he looks like he just needs a good run at it.

I was all for Jackson to be dropped a couple of weeks back, lucky I'm not on the match committee, his form was terrible but he turned it around over past 2 weeks.  It was him that turned the tide in the 3rd qtr he was jumping all over Nic Nat.  When the lighting stop happened our 2 rucks had 28 touches between them, WCE 2 rucks had 8, it ended up 35 to 14.

On Harmes, he is a better player when he has a job, he needs someone to take him to the football and he has the ability to win the ball once there.  I think he played mostly on Kelly and Kelly showed him no respect when we had the footy.  When he doesn't have a job I reckon he gets lost on the field.  He kicked the ball the best he ever has last night which helps.

On WCE they are busting at the seams in regards to salary cap and they are very close to falling off the cliff.  They were cooked in the last quarter prior to the delay.  After the delay as per most posters, all it would have taken is a goal straight after the break and this would have been a 50 point game.  We gave these front runners a sniff, we tried to manage the win, they took the game on.

Yes a few years ago. Think Giants were one of the teams.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
