A draw is as good as a win technically in the context of the season, but serious questions now have to be asked about our ability to compete against sides that try to dismantle our weaknesses. If a top eight side tries to do that in finals the way Adelaide, GWS, Collingwood, and Hawthorn have, we're stuffed.

Good sides back their own system to beat the opposition, and our system is good, especially when we're mentally "up", but when we're down a fraction and we're playing someone (evidently anyone) who is trying to take away our weaknesses, we falter big time.

Make no mistake about it. The Hawks deserved that game. The umpiring was truly putrid. Our goal kicking was akin to u12s. If it wasn’t for Frost they would have won it.

Our form needs to improve drastically and I truly cannot see that happening. If we manage top 4 (and that is a big if) we will go out in straight sets.

Narcissistic nonsense.

We need to think ourselves lucky that the finals are played by the top 8.

Interesting to hear from anyone who doesn't think this is a mental thing. We murder Port away, then look like this against a horrible Hawthorn side.

Gold Coast would think they are a serious chance next week, and Geelong / Bulldogs would be itching to get their hands on us again.

Bloody confusing and exasperating.

We are soooooo mentally weak. I' ll call this a loss and add Adekaide, collingwood and Gws and it means we are so far away its not funny

[censored] ladder posirion flatters us.

Still and will always lack KILLER INSTINCT

A reminder that you are now 0-5 from your game picks post-bye.

Probably the most embarrassing performance outside of 186 and 148 over the last 15 years. And that is saying something because we've had plenty of white flaggers.

Our win/loss records flatters us...massive front runners who can't respond when the game is not on our terms.

When the Hawks have sat on top of the ladder and we've been at the bottom that game is a flogging every time. No pride at this club...they're not winning any finals this year. We just got physically dominated by what would have to be the worst lineup fielded by any team over the last 5 years. Zero pride to allow that to happen.

Is the Goodwin the right guy? Results have shown this year that he has given these guys a formula to be successful....but these lazy show boaters don't seem to get it.

We will be waiting another generation of draft talent for a shot at a flag...these guys don't have it.

Stock standard, we are weak between the ears, you just can't argue that

This is precisely why nobody gives us a realistic chance to win a flag. Champion teams have killer instincts. The only thing we possess is a [censored] the bed instinct.

Woeful performance across the board. Most disappointed in our leaders. Gawn dumb and ineffective. Viney a liability and a complete plodder. Trac with the Hollywood football. Tmac not a yelp.

If this team doesn’t learnt to kick mother[censored] goals I swear to god.

[censored] great way to say thanks to our record breaking membership. Melbourne, you’ve done it again!

Cats Dogs GF

the worst part of this was we didn’t have the decency to lose so all of us who had money on the hawks could collect

jesus wept - this club

  • Oliver arrogant. Work rate on obvious drop off in 'easy' games
  • [censored] Viney off to the forward pocket
  • Throw Rivers into the midfield, Brayshaw goes down back, or alternatively bring Bowey in for more polish

More points than goals... again.

Consistent high long bombs into our F50 that went nowhere.

Handballing to stationary team mates 1 metre away, or high loopy ones putting them under pressure.

Flogged at ground level all over the ground.

Little intensity around the packs

And stuff me, the fumbling. What was that.

Sometimes I have no idea why I waste so much time watching the Dees play. With ball in hand we were so unenjoyable.

And if I see one more player try to evade the 1st tackle, get whacked, and then stuff up trying to do the 2nd handball, I will puke. Give the first option.

And yet, we are on top of the ladder. How can we be on top of the ladder and yet I feel so carp!!!

Pickett’s set shots are a f$&king joke. He needs to put serious work into this aspect of his game. So sick of watching him line up, absolutely safe in the knowledge that he’s going to f$&king cook it.

I'm usually a very optimistic supporter but I find this performance very hard to defend. When you're 4 and a half goals up in the second quarter against a bottom two team, the sensible thing to do is to stay alert and burry them. You can't just turn up against a bottom side and assume you're just going to cruise through and win regardless of how well you're playing.

I honestly wouldn't feel any different if we lost. The only good thing that came out of the game is that we maintained our position on top of the ladder.

I hope Goody doesn't try to spin some crap about two halves or just being outplayed by an inspired outfit.

We were cocky, fumbly and dumb.

What was Goody watching on his tablet? It certainly wasn't the game because I didn't see any meaningful changes.

Pure garbage. Goody should just call it what it was and be done with it.

It pains me to say I'm actually worried about playing the SUNS next week. They're playing some decent footy.

Our midfielders are making a habit of picking when to go. That’s the difference for us.

I can’t have Viney in our midfield mix. He’s just way too one dimensional. Can’t kick, and too slow. We don’t look anywhere near as dynamic with him in there.

We will respond next week, but it’s becoming an issue that we even need to. I feel like our midfield is a few years off having the emotional maturity to contend over a full season.

Drop Viney FOREVER GARBAGE PLAYER

Pathetic, fumbly, loose, undisciplined and unaccountable football. So many stupid frees given away. More weak kicking for goal as per every week.

The amount of Hawks standing on their own all game was ridiculous.

Blokes not manning the mark correctly, not chasing hard, not putting pressure on the kick outs and letting them waltz out.

Played ONE good quarter then sh%t ourselves under pressure, how are we going to handle the heat of a final?

Can't ever just sit down and enjoy a game watching these guys, it's just a lottery with no consistency.  I now just watch the first half then turn it off and wait for the result later, it's a lot of anxiety I can remove from my life.

WHY CAN'T WE BEAT SH#TTY TEAMS

So very Melbourne.
Even when we're on top of the ladder we continually [censored] our pants and embarrass ourselves.

A draw does the same to us in context of the season. Keeps us on top, same as what 4 points what have done. We arnt beating anyone on % either way

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
