How was Dixon mark paid in the final siren!?

I saw Georgiadis have a CLEAR attempt at a mark, bounced off his hands straight to Dixon and yet they paid him the mark?

Absolute woeful decision.

Awsome to see.

If his body had held up Trenners could have been a good captain.

But gee Big Maxy is a great one.  Loved hearing him respond to a question from the Eddy or someone on the Fox Footy panel, when he was interviewed post match.  The conversation was about how Kossie had seemingly pulled himself out of a form slump and got himself up to put in a great game against the Power and the question asked of Max was "What did you say to him as captain to get him up for the game?".  Taking absolutely no self credit, Max deflected the premise of the question and proceeded to talk with words to the effect of what an incredible contributor Kossie was to the MFC and how great his performances were and how he had been so amazingly reslilant in the context of the family tragedy that he had been through at the start of the year and how it would be great for him to hopefully get to spend a bit of time with them over the weekend as well.

In the same interview, Max had a bit of a laugh at himself for getting his head sat on in that screemer the Port bloke took on his head, then had a rye dig at Jake Lever for pushing the Port player up there and a laugh about it with Steven May.

His work ethic and commitment on the track are elite, his onfield performances are amazing, his work with the media helps elevate the marketability of the MFC and his social and emotional connection with his teammates is sensational and his leadership has us playing the best, most disiplined team first footy that I've ever seen from the MFC.  He totally respects the MFC history and great players and personalities.

Hard to think of a better MFC captain that we've had in a long time.  Another diamond in the rough.

Congratulations on 150 games big Gawn dog.

I thought his other goal on half time was a bit of a christmas present as well Dazzle. May tackles him, he drops the ball and then May gets pinged for holding the man.

Two where Motlop was the ball dropper, or thrower, and they goaled from both. Hard to bear.

This rule is a joke. Even at first bounce Boak got ball we tackled him correctly and he dropped it but received the free because we held on to him after he dropped it. Has me totally confused. In my days it was dropping/holding the ball every time.

Hinkley- “We had control of their tall forwards. They didn’t hurt us”.  Must have watched a different game. Tommy McDonald was one of our best.

Deeluded Hickley why did you fork out for Aliah Aliah? To play him in the ruck ???? Looks like i was right about the Powa too. They love a down hill ski slope.

While both teams played off a 5 day break we looked as fresh as a daisy and Port barely gave a yelp.

Huge for us to play 4 quarters with 5 days, travel and in enemy territory then convincingly win.

While 'just' 4 points, it was an enormous performance in terms of entrenching us in the top 4 and embedding belief in each other and the system.

Big Charlie powder puff, they felt sorry for him, thats why they paid it.

Just about our best win so far. Picked them to win by 16 points. Off the margin but happy for the team. Now we must get back to basics and turn up next 2 games and give Hawks and Suns some horrible beltings. Will turn up at Metricon for Suns game being only one up here in Qld and do not want to see the same performances as against Crows, Magpies and Giants.

We're never going to beat any of the top teams kicking 4 goals 10 in the second half of a game.

(Just in case dr d and osilik can't bring himself to post after a win like that)

Number 1 focus at training should be goalkicking!

We may still win against a top team kicking 4.10 in 2nd half, but will never forget GF in 90s North dominated against Crows in first half but kicked 2.9 or thereabouts and instead of being 5-6 goals in front was maybe a kick in it! Then game turned and Crows rolled over top of North!

Demons we’re great against Port but we kick 14.12 or 16.10 and Port wouldn’t have got within 9 points in 2nd half.

Better goal kicking this year and we would be 15-1 and % of 150%!

Im still delighted with our season, but wish for better goal kicking.

Port haven't beaten a side in the 8 and they sure looked like it tonight. Challenged us once to get within 10 points but we responded appropriately after that. After the last month that's a very handy win away from home.

Kane Cornes view correctly IMO this morning is that Port have a habit of making other teams look good.  There's something in that, but last night's win was first class and would have stood up against any side.

Just need to temper expectations till we see the next round performanace againsts a lower hawks side to confirm the mojo is back.

4 . 10 after 1/2 time the only concern.

The 22 last night will be the finals mix into the finals and I have full faith in coaching staff.

Excellent analogy.

Great to see a quick start. Intent and energy from the get go.

Well done mids.

Better fwd structure and delivery.

Now just fix our kicking on goal including Oliver?

Anyone else confused by the holding the man decisions when the player is tackled and drops the ball? Infuriated me beyond no end last night.

Yes, the umps. Rules say if no prior, you must ATTEMPT to dispose correctly. If prior, you must ACTUALLY dispose correctly.

There is no allowance for simply letting go of the ball. Except in the AFL umps department.

I find it really interesting Goody coaching from the Bench, it really says a lot about how he coaches, but also how much he trusts the coaches in the box. i suppose it's handy having the likes of Adem Yze and Alan Richardson up there

I give credit to our football dept for using our coaching panel according to their strengths. Goody is best on the bench, Yze is best up in the box monitoring the game plans (ours and oppos). Still not sure what Richo brings, maybe some boxes of chips and a packet of mint slices.

I’m a big fan of how JJ goes quietly about his business. Racked up 19+ possessions last night and rarely makes a mistake. He’s hard at it and enjoys a tackle. Plays with a maturity beyond his years. A gem has been unearthed.

Salem's ability to get receive the ball under pressure, know what he wants to do before he gets it and execute a quick kick lace out to one of his teammates would have to be the best in the AFL I reckon.  Bloke is a magician.

Saw that as well, terrible call. Dixon was gifted 2 goals last night.

Tipped a 30 point loss as Port are Home Town Heroes and we have been losing against crap sides lately.

Very happy to be quite wrong.

Can't argue with the glass half full types when it comes to being a genuine threat this year. Beating one top 8 side after another shows that when we are on, we can quite literally beat anyone this season.

Still say we need top 2 to avoid the Brisbane trip in the finals. If we roll West Coast in Perf though, I'm fully on board.

On the subject of TMac and career resurrections...

Jayden Hunt.

There is no way at the start of the year I had him as a permanent contributor (*workman like role player) within a premiership contender.

Well bloody done to him and his perseverance.

[censored] I'm enjoying watching the big T Mac play this year.

Clunking big marks all over the ground, kicking clutch goals at big moments in games left right and centre.

Probably one of the most underrated and little noticed aspects of his game externally in the media is the drive he provides from wing-half forward and the connection then achieved with our other deep forwards.  Just love the way he takes a big strong mark, then gets back quickly, brushes off the man on the mark and then drives it deep into an open forward line with a pretty much perfectly measured kick to the advantage of our other forwards pushing back.  Fritta, Kossie and Trac must love it when they see him mark in these situations.  He must have an insane metres gained and goal assists for a big bloke.

How T Mac ever became so bemoaned riles me.  I hardly think you could ever fault the desire, workrate, attitude and team ethos of big Tommy.  Love the competitiveness, aggressiveness and passion he playes with.  Getting in the face of Travis Boak after kicking that goal last night was gold.  Would pay people to remember how he looked gone for all money over the last couple of seasons when they write off the likes of Weid and BBB.

That snap goal he kicked after having his kick smothered from the out on the full was pure awesomeness

I think it's because there is no prior opportunity - if a player is tackled without prior opportunity and the ball "spills free" in the tackle and the tackler doesn't let go it is holding the man. Goes against the spirit of the rule when the player just drops it though, should be play on probably.

Just many of these head scratching decisions/non decisions we had to put up with all night.

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
