Yes, Harmes has a proven ability as a tagger and that, within a competition that is largely fairly even at the top, is a very handy aquisition to utilise to advantage. Cleaner hands - one touch - rapid but effective disposal - all signs of milestones to achieve from Harmes. He is close but not quite polished - he certainly gets to the possessions and opponent-negating standards required to execute skills at this level. Once achieved, Harmes will be another reliable pathway to Demon attack.

Salem can be a liability at times Hollywood handpasses, lazy kicking and sometimes short steps but then you have the good side, important link plays and great kicking just wish he could be the latter all the time.

How good are Brayshaws hands in marking contests when under pressure.. under-rated…

Also the big problem with him as a midfielder in 2019 was his defensive running. Pushes back as hard as any now. Might see him back in the centre before the year is out..

Agreed, I thought he was on his last legs but he has been fantastic since returning to the side earlier this year.

Harmes seems down on confidence to me. He fumbled just about every opportunity he had last night: then again, I'm not privy to his 'role' so maybe he was just expected to just wrestle, fight and fossick and battle the scrums for his side, who knows?

Neale- Bullen was another liability and just about all of his contributions were skew-if,  just not clean enough for this level. He, like Harmes, have certainly had better days.

These are more observations than 'criticism' , the observations of an 'alte kakka' who acknowledges he could not have done any better.

Reckon we won the Viney vs Wines match up too

So, good player (Viney) takes on elite player (Wines) and reduces Ollie to a good game only.  Most of Wines' 33 disposals were non dynamic and often inconsequential.  For instance, he had 19 handballs but were any of them creative?  A number of scrubbed kicks too.  Crouch Bros. style stats

Viney got it 18 times so as a tagger/stopper he's done a bit better than expected with regards to disposal numbers

End result was Viney played a good game as he was able to subdue Wines whilst Wines was nowhere near his match winning self (currently 3rd overall with regards the coaches votes)

So it wasn't necessarily head to head, it was tagger vs star and we came out on top in that vital battle

Viney also moved the ball on much quicker this week, he did not pause, hesitate or stop the 'flow' when in possession of the ball and certainly, did not retain the ball to draw a tackler. He did the team thing, and in that role - on top of his stopper role against Ollie - he frequently maintained the momentum his teammates had instigated, contributing, not exploiting.

Just rewatched the game stress free, and am moderating my criticism on ANB, he gets ‘par’, there were more good touches than i felt watching the game live. Also the Adelaide oval with it’s nice fat wings really suits us. If finals get moved (god forbid) this would probably be the best alternate ground for us.

As I love Viney's tenacity and fierce attack on the ball I don't see him as an A grade player from an overall perspective (although, it must be said that he is capable of A grade games)

Wines on the other hand I see as an out and out star of the game

But he was no star last night thanks to Jack

ANB got better as the game went on ... he fumbled once or twice earlier in the game but after that, he lifted his game

Started using his elite endurance getting to contest after contest

Along with a few others in the forward line, our defensive pressure was great to see.  In the end, the opposition started making errors because of our pressure. They had no answers

Given the circumstances of the 8 point game, it could be our best win although the wins against all the other contenders have all been very good

I didn’t know there was another Salem playing? As there is no chance you could ever describe Christian in this manner - the most reliable player by hand and foot in the team.

I resisted responding to your previous post on Salem because it was twaddle.

In our top 5 most important players. Absolutely critical to our game plan.

Salem Is our best kick by a mile. And his ability to hit target under pressure is phenomenonal. And again a huge part of our game plan, in particular our ability to not lose the ball in our back half and transition to our front half.

Lazy?

Absolute bollocks. His numbers are of the charts. He gets huge disposal numbers for a half back and covers huge territory.

In fact one of the most impressive (and important) parts of his game is his ability to continue to hit targets when he is red lining and fatigued.

When the lions played us, pagan tagged two players - Lever and Salem. Because both are so important for us.

Salem is a gun disposer and good footballer My only criticism is he sometimes takes short steps but really like him

I watched again yesterday and I don’t think he missed a target all night. IMO he is easily the best kick in the team.
