I always tell people this crazy story about this one time I caught a bus, I had to sit next to a commoner. It was an eye-opener but never again.

GWS are paying $4.60.

That’s insane.

I’m expecting another very close game.

It is.

They are a game out of the eight.

Might be good insurance but I feel strangely confident about today.

I think this may surprisingly be the day we actually bury a team.

Its got to happen sooner or later.

Hibberd has returned this year in the finest of form and is just as important part of our defence as May and Lever.

Actually they are all excellent. Best defence around.Hunt was back in form last week too.

Rivers has been a revelation and Salem back to his career best.

All we need is a fit AVB between half-forward and half-back, rejoining the team as his presence does make us a better team; but importantly, we need a player of his type to assist clear a few pathways for his teammates and to de-stabilise some big personal opinions amongst the opposition, such as Bumford.

I shall be leaving the warm embrace of The Manor for only my second live game this year.

And ........ I fully expect to see a comfortable victory. We shall have clear winners on every line and , the middle of the road Dwarfs, simply will not have the answers.

No trains from Scumbury today so I shall give the Merc an airing. The Maid shall be left  in charge (temporarily of course ) to oversee the victory celebrations.

I feel we got the part of our game back last week that makes us ‘us’. We left our finishing skills at home, but our frontal pressure, ability to trust our team mates, and ability to retain defensive shape had returned to 85%-90% of their previous levels. I think we still have a bit more to give on that front which is encouraging,

Things I want to see:

1) Clarry last week seemed to be summoning the spirit of Beamer Moloney last week in his tendency to bomb kick it in to the forward fifty as soon as he got the ball out of the clearance. It’s a fine line with him as a lot of us whinged about him over handballing, and we don’t want to go back to those days.

Pressure of course comes into it, but a compromise of shorter kicks that build into an effective forward fifty entry with the link kick affected by someone else, rather than him creating the shot on goal is the best option.

2) This improved last week exponentially, but goals from forward fifty lockdowns and smart inner forward fifty passes must continue to trend upwards. Against Collingwood, we got one I could count in the opening minutes (Fritsch to Nibbler). Against Essendon, this ticked up to 3 or 4.

If we can get clean looks, I’m all for it. However, as a hunted team, it’s going to be less and less likely.

3) I would have preferred BBB back this week. That he’s not, the two points I raised previously are so much more important. If we are going to play chaos football, we need a player to bring the ball to ground. Tomald isn’t that type, more an endurance, lead up player who gets from contest to contest. Weed could have been this, but his follow up work and inability to clunk marks when the game is hot have disqualified him for the time being. Dogga can’t play that role all game as he is required to go into the ruck. BBB probably isn’t even the right guy for the role, as he is more a lead up forward who works best one out against his opponent. But of all the players I’ve mentioned (and are in decent form), he’s the player most likely to be constructive if we aren’t as deliberate as we could be moving into the fifty (not our preference).

Thus, why forward fifty connection through intelligent ball movement is paramount.

I feel good about our chances. As a 33 year supporter, I have a decent intuition as to when we’ll poo the bed. Today’s not the day. If we win today, and finals are officially in the bag. Then it’s on us what we make of those circumstances.

Will find our strategy really interesting today.

Giants are a low inside 50s team, but they do give up a lot of inside 50s. They're also a good clearance team. So do we go a bit harder with centre clearances or do we stay launching from the backline?

IMO the key is our forward half this week, it's possible our backline won't get as many 'opportunities' as normal. Giants have poor forward pressure, especially on the deck I reckon, so it's possible we'll need Kozzy, Fritsch, ANB and Spargo to hit the scoreboard more than the last few weeks.

Giants can be up and down but they will be up for this one. Expect a really physical start. This game will be very close and we’ll need to be tough and switched on to win

Perhaps you’re right. I’ve heard The Bends is a horrible affliction.

Aside from obviously just wanting a win, can we kick straighter, a 14.8 or 15.10 would be terrific vs the usual 9.14! It means we keep Giants to 10.7 and have a comfortable 4-5 goal win.

Kudos to Binman and others for your strategic analysis that I really enjoy, but FFS can the Dees just start kicking more goals than points, and that will be about the greatest strategic improvement we can make in the run home!

Think about it, 2 more goals rather than points per round and we have 140 more points onto our percentage, so would be sitting at 148%, have another win (Crows) so would be 13-1.

My wish is for Demons to kick straighter!!!!!

Plus generally keep winning and win the flag(Tokyo Olympics bringing nice symmetry with 64)!

I hope Gawn is ready for Mumford today. I suspect mumford is going to try to overwork him physically anytime he can.

Hibbard should go to Greene. Here's hoping he doesn't kick a bag like last time.

Just want to see Pickett kick some goals today and not try to take mark of the year and give away silly free kicks.

Hope Fritta can snag some and Tommy does his stuff.

The crowd numbers will be interesting. They other night at marvel tigs only got above 9000. The weather is a little chilly today but I do hope there is some noise out there today.

get the 4 points and get 2 games clear of the catters again.

MFCSS not nearly as bad as Crows and Pies games. Big test today but we’re up for the challenge.

Hoping for a four quarter game and a 26 point win!

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50.
