Any chance Petty forward, Turner back? Or we thinking Turner in for an injured Petty, or Lever (or a dropped Tomlinson)?

Yes ... probably

Would not mind seeing Petty play occasional forward if our talls are not giving much. At least Petty lets his balls do the talking.

I remember the aggression up forward he showed in his early games.

He looks like he has the body and aerial capabilities to at least give a forward role a go, like Petty. If Turner and Petty have great games,  Mitch Brown has a stinker, May returns, and Weid doesn't get picked then;

We could move one of Disco or Petty into the forward line and have the ability to swing them back if needed.

I hope Mitch Brown goes OK. BBB just has too. If Weid really wants a job at Mfc he needs to tear it apart at Casey. It's now or never for him I reckon.

I thought we were stacked with fwds last year and it would be a problem picking them.

Gee we were lucky with injuries last year.

Perhaps when may is back we could try Petty up fwd.

Or maybe Tomlinson but he seems to have lost a lot of form.

Who really knows...you can't beat bad luck not including May you goose.

I feel like the low confidence in the talks is almost endemic. It’s like it’s spreading amongst all of them and they don’t know how it’s going to break. We just need one of our tall defenders and one of our tall forwards to stand up, and I genuinely think the others will follow. BBB needs to get involved on Monday, even in his worst form last season he still had a presence and managed to snag a goal or two. The last month he has been MIA.

I realise this is a thread about Disco so I’m just going to say good luck to the bloke and it’s great seeing guys like this being given an opportunity.

Reported that Turner is set to get a contract extension until 2024:

FRESH from his recent AFL debut, Melbourne defender Daniel Turner is set to sign on with the Demons on a new deal.

Turner, who was selected by the club at last year's NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, is expected to sign a two-year extension that will tie him to the Dees until the end of 2024.

He has been improving at VFL level across the season, with the Demons set to lock him in to bolster their group of key backs.

The intercept marker was overlooked at the 2020 national draft but his form with the Murray Bushrangers took the eye of the Demons at last year's mid-season intake. – Callum Twomey

He could be another Taylor 'special'.

Sad he was injured in his debut game.  I'm sure we will see some very good football in the years ahead.

Fantastic news.

He didn't look out of place at AFL level against Collingwood and hopefully he is back soon from his injury.

His family would be stoked.

Love it, he's been a massive bolter in the last 12 months. Keen to see more.

Great news.

Looked a player ( just like Petty did) from his highlights reel and hasn't disappointed at all.

Great effort to impress with only One pre season and to break into the best defence in the AFL.

Will be interesting to see if he can win a spot in the backline ( in competition with Tommo) as we may need for team balance to look at Harry Petty up forward this season to bag that flag.

Looks like he could be a fan favourite with a nickname "Disco".

All the best Dan get over your injury and go for it over the next few weeks!

Turner well and truly deserves an extension - he does show a lot of promise

His work at Casey has been on par with Tomlinson in my opinion - every chance to grab a permanent spot next year with another big pre-season behind him. If he can it will create more options to go forward (if required) say, Petty or J Smith

There are a few around the world nicknamed 'Disco Dan'; maybe our Disco was 'named' after one of them...

He was the guest on the Gus & Gawny podcast this week, didn’t say how it came about just that he got it back home from mates and it stuck.

In his brief appearance against the ‘woods, Daniel (or “Page” as I like to call him) looked at home at the afl level. My question is, if May, Lever and Petty remain fit for the next 2 years, what do we do with Turner? I doubt we’d play another tall down back, and he’s too good to play VFL for that period of time - and if we did there is a good chance he’d be getting itchy feet to get a go somewhere else. Could he be trialled in the forward line perhaps? He has a good set of hands and he reads the play very well. It would give him the AFL game experience he would not likely get if we consider him solely as a backman. He can move back to the backline as and when required. Any thoughts?

I think this is why it's worth giving Petty a run forward - but that's more of a next year problem.  It would be unlikely that they will bring in Disco again this year once he recovers unless one of the other three are injured.

I would suspect that he would be more likely "to be given a try forward" than Petty who is now an essential part of our world's greatest stable defence.

Maybe it could be tried next preseason, depending of course on who / what we pick up in trades or next draft as a big forward.

I would be interested in knowing his height, he was recruited as a 192cm back. Has he grown? He and JVR could potentially play forward or back they are both talented and MB, TMac, Steven May and BB aren’t getting any younger.!!!

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
