You're confident we'll have full crowds back at the G in September? I bloody hope so but nothing would surprise me.

Harley Bennell ran into an open goal and missed.  Weid missed a sitter  as well.  That was one we should have bolted in.

Thanks for that @bing181, got mine booked for Wednesday. Feeling far less anxious about it now.

I still had a rough night, killer headache, hot sweats and the shivers, but was over it by the following afternoon.

Sounds like the typical day after our games in 2020 ...

The Jono Brown comment was made. Then Garry said only if Melbourne ticked it off and we got a LARGE cheque we might consider it

The ball is in our court i tend to agree with Garry with an overs offer north of the quoted figure of $700k, we hold the cards here.

Make it worth while for the club to benefit big time, we are the big ticket item so we should make hay while the sun shines if the requirements are met.

@binman makes some valid points with accommodation and the like, but the offer from Bris Lions has to be extraordinary to give up home ground advantage  for a prime time Friday Night game.

Make no mistake this team in its current state of mind can take on anyone, anywhere, anytime, but it has to be on our terms, if not play it at the SCG or Giants Stadium.

We are playing currently to consolidate a top 2 position, this choice shouldn't be taken lightly like previous decisions have in the past.

If we played it at the Gabba (which I can’t see us doing) I would be telling the AFL they will cop a $2-3 million fine from the club if their umpires start making crowd decisions like they did in Adelaide.

Take the cash, play infront of a packed gabba, great experience playing a top 4 team in a big game away from home.

We are about to lose a ton of money from no NT then QB game. This after losing a huge amount last year. Would be a bloody tough thing to decide to do, but I have empathy to why they would

tough situation fr the club isn’t it. we are one of the clubs most vulnerable financially and taking a hit in the NT and QB games is going to really put heat on us. being such a good side in a year where your actually making less on crowds is also going to hurt us. ultimately the good of the club has to prevail in this choice.

gifting brisbane a home game in a 1 v 3 may be wrong, and feels v unpalatable ( not to mention unfair) but i’d go with it as well.

Some thoughts.

Being a good corporate citizen whilst minding the bottom line and protecting our chances of top 2 (this should be the #1 goal as it begets so much advantage next year - gate takings, membership, blockbuster TV FTA) and conditioning players to play in front of big (and potentially hostile crowds).

1. Offer to take (subject to QLD Health) the Lions game to Gabba on the proviso we get the gate AND the AFL read the umpires the riot act. One was not amused by the malarkey in Adelaide.

2. And/OR (independent of above) Offer to take the Pies game (subject to NT Health) to Alice (quarantine in Noosa/etc post Gabba, go there now) and split the 700k with Collingwood If and only If (IFF)

3. We get QBW as a home game next year (or split the gate with Collingwood) OR Anzac Eve (again) as compo for the loss of QBW 21 gate. Or another similar blockbuster as home ground - Cats, Tigers, Bombers, Pies, Dogs and no ridiculous heading to GMHBA in 2021. Sick of that thanks.

Collingwood lost last years QBW gate - so we need to be fair minded here. Everyone (Vic clubs in particular) is in a similar situation except Eagles and the Adelaide and QLD clubs. They need to be fair minded also.

Otherwise, request another switch to Alice - perhaps the Port or Weagles or Geelong (!) games. These somewhat de-risk the home ground advantage they get but they will want compo for losing the home ground advantage and gate.

There's an integrity issue which outweights the financial considerations. If you allow Melbourne to sell it's game to Brisbane where will it end? Will North start selling games or Gold Coast. Selling a game to NT and other developing areas is one thing but selling to a direct rival is something else entirely. It can't and won't be allowed.

That's a good point - you don't want to set a precedent and let (powerful) clubs (especially) hold the fixture over a barrel.

I'd then favour requesting a near Vic fixture swap - Collingwood seems the best candidate. Negotiate with Collingwood - split the 700k with them then split the gate for QBW with them next year?

I’m certain we lost out on QB as the home team last year, Pies were the home team in 2019.

Cool cool cool - whichever way around it was. The fixture shows it as our home game this year, implying them next year = our lost gate this year and they get it next year. I think there is space to negotiate with the Pies on getting to Alice and splitting it.

The Age Real Footy Podcast made a good point - firstly they thought it was 400k, not 700k and Caroline Wilson made the good point that the MFC ought not worry about this - keep the premiership in mind (this means getting a top 2 IMV) and then letting everything that flows from that benefit the bottom line next year. Big games with big gates, blockbuster TV slots, memberships.

Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
