He must have something of goodies cause he continues to get a game when he

Looking at Jakes stats in this year and lasts  there is a big drop in his form to the three years before. He used to be a very handy player but hes just not the same and hasnt been for a while.

His goal scoring, marks, tackles and possessions are way down in the last two seasons.

If Tmac was still playing like last year , there is no way he would get a game.

I've been a big supporter of the Weid but its time to deliver. Another underwhelming performance and it's back to Casey.

Aren't you on the ball...they merged two threads.

Apart from Melksham, it's a good looking team.

“They” are out to get you, didn’t you know…

Just my random thoughts

not sure you could bring in BBB even with his history at Marvel, given such a poor game at Casey.
but it gives Weid another chance. Just how strong is the dogs defence , NFI .
and he won’t have too many chances. Mitch Brown very unlucky ,

Nev Jetta did not have a great game so no surprise.  Salem has had a great year, deserves the extra contract.

and we need Viney to be duly fit to last the rest of the year

sort out the spearhead , rest important players at the right time and get our side ready for cherry ripe for September.

I really think last week and perhaps the week before the players were mentally preparing for this coming game,

it will be a fascinating game.  Dees by 15 points.      Fingers crossed

Interesting (perhaps) that Jones isn't named anywhere. Perhaps still being "managed" injury-wise. Suspect that the poor performance of Chandler 2 weeks back, plus the unavailability of Jones is what's keeping Melksham in the side, as they're the closest like-for-like.

On a similar note, suspect we'll see Bedford when one of Pickett or Spargo aren't available.

Can’t see our fwd line creating enough pressure with fritsch, wied and melksham in particular to stop dogs running the ball out and cutting us open before we can setup in defence. At least one had to go out for another mid so either trac or harmes could spend more time fwd.

Nothing surprising about the team.

I think our forward line will bounce back. Its been scoring well most of the year.

Fritta didnt accidently kick six goals a while back. Yea hes been poor lately but he is stiil a star. Tmac has been awesome this year and was off for one game last week so he will fire.

Kozzie will bounce back. The only unknown is Sam w. Theres a lot of pressure on him so I think it will get him moving I hope.

If people are looking at Melksham's stats last week they are looking in the wrong place.  10 d, 9 k and 4 m doesn't look great until they realise he played only 54% game time:  barely played 2 quarters.  I think he is carrying a foot injury perhaps connected to he one which kept him out for a while several years ago.

Last week he enabled two goals in the first quarter with pin point passes, to keep us close to Adelaide.  He barely played after the 1st quarter.   He was far from our worst vs the crows - not even in the bottom 6 given his low game time.

I'm not a Melksham but I can see that he plays a valuable role most weeks.

I'd like to see other young player/s  with potential given half the development time of the Weed readied down Casey way. Probably turn out a few 'guns' in such a process. Petty is one who comes to mind. Smith is another but there are others, there will be others; in fact, we could set up a forwards training school to meet such a purpose - like the US gridiron leagues with key positional players.

Better unleash hell, Sam because the Demon world is watching with limited patience.

Reasonable decisions made

Salem in for Jetta makes us so much better. No offence Jetts

id wager we won’t be as exposed at docklands with a lack of fwd pressure but we shall see

Melk survives again. FMD I give up.

Ok I'll add this........

If Michael Newton MOTY had been given the opportunities of Melksham...

He would have been a Coleman Medalist, A Norm Smith Medalist and ALL AUSTRALIAN

Totally mystyfying!

But he is not alone Weeds and Fritsch would want to FIRE!

Has he got Goodwin's dog?

What's Goodwins dog got to do with anything ??

Why doesn't he just give it back ???

Its a common saying but Im now sorry I mentioned it.? Theres a few here that sound like they want to kick theirs after my post.

Pretty much what was expected in selection. During the first quarter last week Melksham looked the goods but them disappeared from the game. With him only playing a bit over 50% game time it is understandable that he did not have much more impact. It was a strange way to use him last week. Give him more game time and judge him on that.

There will be some great tactical games played tomorrow night. The bulldogs have a lot of strength and height up forward with the inclusion of English to ruck along side Sweet and both rotating into the forward 50. Either of them along with McNaughton and Bruce will stretch our backline. Add to that Bont moving through there as well and we will need to be in top form back there. Hibberd to Bont when he is in the forwards. Salem will improve the defence this week.

In the midfield there are a lot of Bulldogs that can cause problems. I expect McCrea, Libba and Smith to contest the first bounce against Oliver, Petracca and Kossie. Looking forward to that. We really need to exert our will on the game from that first bounce to make sure we are proactive for as much of the game as possible. we need to get them on the back foot and have them working to close our players down, not the other way around. Get on top in the middle and force them to make the changes. We need to make sure we are well prepared and well drilled to react quickly to any adjustments that are required.

Not sure what we will get out of the forwards this week. One thing I would look to do is set Spargo to run with Daniel to try and curb his influence.

Well now that you’ve said it, you owe it to ppl like me to explain it. Please.  It’s for the greater good. Otherwise ima have to go through life thinking it means what comes up when one googles “He had Goodwin’s dog” which is...

Yep, and if this is the case it's reasonable to replace him in the side if not fit. Surely won't be good for his recovery.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
