Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

i wonder whether anb might take him as our fittest player - caleb daniel just runs and runs and runs

Wwsw, that is what I would do. Run ANB on Daniels. Almost perfect for the job.

Right changes (or change since it’s one for one). I agree that it’s too early to swing the axe but I really hope these players were put on notice:

Weid - take your opportunity, now is the time or it’s back to Casey

Fritta - had a good season for kicking goals, but defensive efforts aren’t good enough

Petty - giving you time to develop, but we can’t afford another nothing game like that

Jordon - not so much put on notice but make the point that being a young player fade outs are expected. If that comes Sparrow will jump at the chance

ANB, Kozzie, Spargo - they know what they’re in the team for, they didn’t do enough of it last week. Kozzie is safe but he’s been quiet for a couple of weeks now, time for a kick up the bum

EDIT Melksham - forgot about him. He’s definitely becoming a downhill skier, looked a million bucks in the first quarter when we were probably at our best but faded to nothing after that. Lucky to still be getting a game

At least we're giving Weideman a crack at it. The next six weeks or so (depending on Covid) will tell the story...and soon to be out of contract. Interesting times. I still reckon that Mitch Brown is stiff not to get more games. Good grab, knows how to find space, contests, understands his role and kicks goals.

If Weideman continues his lackluster form, he will enter the "delist" category for me.

Cannot find the ball, and can never take one grab contested marks. They are pretty important for a key forward yeah?

I was optimistic early, but we've seen more than enough of him now to know that he will never be the player we hoped for.

I think not playing Brown is a mistake.
Also Melksham has more lives than a cat.

His performance in the VFL did not warrant selection. Funny how just a couple of weeks ago everyone was saying we had a nice dilemma with our plethora of forwards. And here we are wondering again. The brutal truth is Weideman has shown nothing at AFL level to say, yep he’s the one we pin our hopes on going forward. And I suspect Browns best years are behind him. His movement appears limited, which is more than likely that knee issue. Don’t forget, North were happy for him to leave.

we will get beaten easily tonight

Yep, and if this is the case it's reasonable to replace him in the side if not fit. Surely won't be good for his recovery.

In an ideal world he would be rested, if my hunch is correct, that he is playing with an injury.

However, lots of players go on the field carrying an injury:  our own Salem for a number of weeks, Cripps, Neale, Max last year etc.  They take pain killers and get injections.

It seems to happen often, especially if the view is "playing doesn't make an injury worse";  an approach I don't particularly like as resting will, as you say, be good for recovery.

The following are under extreme pressure this week

Melksham, Weeds, Fritsch unless they fire and we win all should go Back to Casey.Im also not sold on Petty either. Is it too early to say some careers at Melbourne are on the line tonight?

Based on what....He went ok against North in his first game back from injury and for our club, kicked some crucial goals against the swans, didn’t do a lot against Carlton then poor in the VFL. Some of the best key forwards in the game today are in their late 20’s early 30’s. I’m backing him in to play a big part for us as the year goes on.

Based on my observation of him. He lacks mobility. And those other key forwards have one thing he doesn’t, they can get the ball when it hits the deck

I think its too early to write them both off. Bb was better than Tmac Has ever been except for one bad season. Tmac was poor for two seasons and now look at him.

As for Sam, hes played only two games this year at top level. He deserves a little more but I think the clock is certainly ticking for him.

It all seemed so positive a few backs with these two blokes vying for a spot. One of them will make it.

Thank goodness for Tom. But I do recall how many poor games hes had. I think the club wanted to even unload him.

And Fritta will break his slump .

Kozzie will keep improving.

I thought Bb was very good against North and just alright in his 2nd game. His third was poor. But thats only three games for the year with only one bad one. They should not have dropped him.

I also believe Sam is more suited to Chf than ff. Both Sam and Tom lead well and are agile but Tom Mac is much stronger and holds his ground better in a marking contest for a ff.

Toms follow up efforts in front of goal are better than Sams as well.

We're 9-1. Only defeat was by 1 point.

The Doggies wilted under the pressure against the Tiges. If we can turn up the temperature gauge the Doggies will struggle. We won't allow them to saunter around Marvel to do as they please tonight. They're a very good side but by no means unbeatable.

The Melksham bashing is so inane! If Sparrow, Chandler or Bedford came in and did the things Melksham did as recently as the Adelaide game, the same crew would be singing their praises as if we had unearthed a gem!

Alternate view - If Sparrow, Chandler or Bedford came in and didn't lay a single tackle they would be getting savaged on here.

Salem in is huge.

Melksham was a bit of a surprise, only because of his limited impact after a great first quarter and low % game time thereafter, which suggested an injury. My best guess is that he has recovered enough that selectors think we can get more than 1 good quarter. No tackles last week but 2 score assists (O’Brien only other player to have that many) sort of sums him up.

Weideman stays in as B Brown NQR and M Brown as a last resort. I hope he can find some form.

I’m also hoping that last week Melbourne were tapering in prep for tonight’s game, and that Burgess will have us ready to come out looking a different team. I’m worried that we’re actually tired and out of form and the Dogs will maul us. Just have to wait and see.

Go Dees!

Would’ve liked to see us go back to what made us successful and drop Wiedeman.

Agree and fear for our ability to kick a winning score unless TMac gets more scoring support and I can't see who is going to provide that with Weid in, Brown out and Fritsch quiet.

Maybe Kossy and jackson but they're still very young and it shouldn't be up to them.

Yeah no, we wouldn't.

There's a huge difference between a senior player that's about to play 200 games and is currently adding 0 input to the side, to a 19-21 who's trying to establish himself into AFL footy.

Not hard to work it out really.

It'll be open and it's absolutely rubbish. Window dressing of the highest order! It's seen to be doing something. If there's covid in the stadium it's going to be there roof open or not. Hopefully it doesn't rain and ruin what is to be a good match.

Given no crowds this makes no sense at all given both teams have been tested twice this week.....

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
