JV7 2,375 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Like some have said, 16 points up late in the last we shouldn't be losing a game from there, cant blame umpires BUT that non holding the ball on Keays & then the non deliberate call was horrendous, if that deliberate happened at another time of the game it would have been paid... Anyway may be the loss we had to have, we have played average footy for 4 weeks & found ways to win the previous 3, we didn't tonight... Onto the Dogs Friday night! Lets enjoy prime time & top of the table clash!! Quote

Every team has hunted us ever since we beat Richmond. Adelaide were very good against WC in Perth last week and had they had Walker and McHenry would have come very close. We don’t want to be playing our best footy just yet. Still 13 rounds to go. Quote

I thought they put in massive amount of pressure and it resulted in simple little turnovers that proved costly. 2nd point, stop blaming the umpires. They did not cost us the game at all. The fact we were in a position late in the game that we needed to rely on a deliberate rule is imo is very concerning. We 16 points up with 3 minutes to go. We lost because we put ourselves in that position to lose. I'm putting the absolute heat on our senior players tonight. Some of the efforts and performance from so called senior heads and leadership was simply unacceptable. Steven May - possibly the worst games he's played for us. Played lazy football and gave no respect to a rookie in Thilthorp. Just wanted to play zone football all night. One thing also, stop spraying other blokes when you get beaten in a one on one contest. It is simply on you. Fritsch - My god is there a more softer footballer going around? Lazy and insipid. 0 defensive efforts. If we are fair dinkum as a club then he surely is under the microscope this week. Melksham - Simply bizarre he was playing in the first place. How the [censored] did he get selected on the back of being a medical sub? What does that say to the likes of Tom Sparrow who's busted his [censored] at AFL level with 2 games in a row of being BOG with an average of 30 disposals? What exactly does that send to not only Sparrow but the rest of the blokes doing the hard yards? Not only does Melksham do SFA, he's another who insipid with 0 defensive pressure. Harmes - One trick pony who dead set thinks his dusty. Honestly don't know what to make of him Jetta - Yeah look, commented pre game that I was concerned with this inclusion. Might as well just have played a witches hat. Adds legit nothing to our side anymore. Great servant but hopefully that's the last time we see him in red and blue. Stay at Casey and help develope our kids. Weideman - So disappointed. Running out of patience. If there was a time to really stake a claim and grab a game by the scruff of the neck then today would have been it. Gawn - Had good moments then had poor moments where I just face palmed. Maybe can the whole podcast for a few weeks and #positvelingers stuff and just focus on getting your form back, because he has simply been poor of late. I'm starting to notice signs of tiredness with Pickett, Rivers and Jordon. How we manage that Is up to the club. The positves for me were Petracca and Oliver. I thought while Lever was under immense pressure he was our best defender. Ed Langdon is proving what an absolute brilliant pick up he's been. Lesson for young kids who want to see what work rate is all about, grab yourself a few Langdon highlights and watch him work his [censored] off. I also thought Brayshaw on the other wing was good as well. The 3 keys players we missed today were Salem, Ben Brown and Jack Viney. I said this a few weeks ago, but the impact Brown has is huge for our forwards. He draws 2 defenders and.its no coincidence that when Brown was playing McDonald and Fritsch had career best games. Viney is the general around our stoppages and directs our set ups and stoppage clearences.Him being out has left a significant hole and it's been telling the last few weeks. Enough said by Salem. He is our barometer and just sets us up so well from half back. Please be back next week. Funny enough I wasn't angry about this loss because I think Adelaide played really well and I thought we'd win this comfortable. But what this shows is that there is no easy teams this year. Every win is so significant and I feel like this is exactly the lost we needed. Oi Dazzle u left of a comment on Clayton Oliver! ?? Quote
Dr.D 1,771 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 the game should've been over at quarter time with our dominance early but we have no killer instinct and I'm so bloody sick and teams scoring 30 seconds after we kick a big goal. It happens time and time again that it's now a pattern. 1 Quote

I'd rather go into a game off the back of a 1 point loss than a 111 pts victory, i was there tonight and the performance was off in many ways. Thumbling in close and around the ground, misdirected skill execution, pressure acts, Marks inside 50, it looked like we had time warped back into 2019 with our long boming into the forward 50. Composure was lacking, Set shot goal kicking was also a large factor in the loss. As much as i would have liked to have won tonight we still have alot of structural issues to align in our Forward Line which much be addressed. Jacko will be better for the run, Salem was a big miss (top 3 in the BnF) Viney back in miss his toughness. The Weed is going to have to show more hunger for the contest other wise were going to have massive problems going forward. BBB is a must for Friday night, i think Sparrow is a must for the dogs his performances have been standing out like a sore thumb. Stay strong and keep the belief my fellow Demonlanders it was a bad day at then office which may have a silver lining. Quote
Pates 9,697 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 It’s a massive cliche but you learn more from losing, I think our wins have been solid but it’s covered a couple of cracks in our games. We are yet to get off to a dominant start in any of our first 10 games. We have consistently allowed teams to stay in the contest, Adelaide was finally the team to take advantage of this. We aren’t clinical either with opportunities on goal We have been beaten regularly in the middle with centre clearances, we have relied on our defence standing tall. Adelaide put enough pressure on to stop this. We rely heavily on forward pressure players putting in even if they don’t kick goals. Pickett, Spargo, and ANB were all off and aside from little cameo spots they did very little. In fact Pickett missed the chance to kick after the siren to win it for us by dropping an uncontested mark. We failed a test with tonight’s game but the good news is that we now have the chance to learn from it, and the boys should be fuming they’ve dropped that game. Quote
#11-TonyAnderson 868 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 They showed the way to play - fast, well directed passes that cut us up. We reverted to down the line predictable long bombs most or the game - no plan B. I love Nev but too slow now. I don’t want to see Weid in a Dees Jumper again. I noticed Fritch tackles last week, probably got a ‘scare’ with Melk dropped - reverted to no tackling again - very poor. Quote
Fat Tony 5,337 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Enough with the Adelaide were the better team rubbish. It was even at every change. We dominated the clearances and had 5 more scores. Adelaide played very well and were slick with the ball but they only got over the line due to luck and poor umpiring. Quote
Mickey 4,777 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I think last night was the perfect embodiment of the old 'Never going as well or as badly as it looks'. We've won without being amazing, and Adelaide have had some good wins at home. Hopefully thIs reminds the boys that you can't afford to be 1% off in this comp, let alone 5-10% off like we were. 1 Quote
Bang Bang Bang 5,875 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Normally I’d be chilled by now but I’m still raging about that deliberate non-call lol. That gets paid 100 times out of 100 at any other moment. Are our players somewhat to blame for it? Hear me out. Umpires are human. The lack of an appeal from Jackson and co surely had an impact in that umpire’s mind. Does Goody bring that up in the review or am I overthinking things here? 2 Quote

If you keep leaving the door ajar then sooner or later teams will start walking through it. The dogs are absolutely burying teams when they get on a roll. I want to be wrong here but when I look at the doggies and lions I can’t help but think we’re going to have our arses handed to us in the next two weeks. 2 Quote

BDA 23,048 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I reckon that insufficient intent rule is the greatest crock of all time. The variety of umpiring decisions in this regard is bewildering. Spargo is inside his forward 50 and mis-kicks. Why on earth would he have any incentive whatsoever to put it over the boundary line when in possession in that position. And then the polar opposite non call for the most deliberate OOB you will ever see. The AFL will be embarrassed yet again because a third game this season has been decided by a non-call by the umpires. The umps are human. They will get it wrong just like players miss easy goals. Is it time for some kind of video review? I think it has to be considered for such catastrophic bad decisions. Something like cricket where the team has 2 reviews per game to challenge an on-field call. It’s just not good enough that games are decided in this manner. The AFL need to act now. An embarrassing admission of error via a press conference makes no difference and just doesn’t cut it anymore. Can you imagine the bitterness and resentment we would be feeling this morning if that was a GF! People who say we should have won the game already, that there were 200 moments in the game which could all have changed the trajectory of the match. But the reality is during the game you can react. When its practically the last action of the match there’s nothing you can do. Sort this out AFL for the good of the game. 1 Quote

Deesprate 1,324 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Anyone who claims that was not deliberate because touched by Spargo is kidding themselves. Even with ultra slo mo it not clear. The clear intent was to hit it out of bounds something the AFL has outlawed to keep the game flowing. Spilt milk I know but talk about clutching at straws. Got to put this one behind us Crows are not duffers and they claimed Cats in Adelaide. For me Weed was my biggest disappointment and May was comprehensively shellacked by Walker. We will find a lot out about this team in the next two weeks. I think we have all been waiting for the old Melbourne to return and it up to our players to ditch that narrative. With Clarry and Trac in your team your always a chance. Still glad I forked out for Grand final guarantees. I Believe 2 Quote
Lil_red_fire_engine 11,383 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Nothings ever as good or as bad as it seems. We were off but it was not through lack of effort. If anything it came through over trying at times. They played out of their skin and we lost by 1 point with two appalling umpiring decisions that should have gone our way that get 1 of them and we still win. No Salem, May having his worst game of the year and Jetta and Hunt not adding anything defensive or offensive really meant we struggled with the way they moved it forward at all costs and how we countered. Our forward line connection just did not work, too much bombing and limited leading yet we still kicked a strong score. Jordon and Harmes were down on recent weeks which left too much to Trac and Oliver granted Oliver nearly won it on his own. You cant play Melksham and Fritsch in the same forward line and two tall forwards with Jackson and play a forward half game. The season will ebb and flow its what you learn when it ebbs and how you react to it which will have the biggest say over our season in the end. 1 Quote
