Have been pleading with demon supporters for couple of years to stick fat with this kid. What you're watching now is exactly what he was showing at TAC level and why he was highly rated by our recruiting and coaching staff.

Imo he is by far our best tackler in the team, and he sets the tone with his insane pressure and manic attack. Don't think I've seen anyone an opponent slip his tackles as of yet this year.

While Kozzie might be getting all the Hollywood attention and rightly so, it's Spargo who the coaches would be just as wrapt with his defensive efforts and form.

Worked incredibly hard today and wish he got the reward on the scoreboard. He's best 22 as we speak.

He has gone to another level the kid. I loved it when he milked a free from that sook who's been conning the umps for 15 years. Absolutely loved it.

The umps were great today i must add, really earnt their pay packet today.

For the life of me i cannot understand why people give spargo a hard time. Vice like in the tackle and excellent with ball in hand. Radar was a little off today but he's a fantastic small forward. Delighted he is finally getting the respect he deserves.

Cheers Charlie.

The "Spargo Ratio":

Score involvements divided by disposals.

I think we underestimate how a few preseason can really build a players strength. He often got brushed off when tackling in his first couple years. Not anymore. Great skills, huge footy IQ, always front and center. We need all of Spargo, Kozzie and ANB at the moment.

Valuable contribution today. Ok. Smart options when he had the chance.  Tackling definitely better. He should have kicked 3 or 4 goals but like others, didn’t quite finish.  I’m not convinced he’s in our absolute best 18 but I’m not axing him either.

I don’t always love the shoulder dip move, it can abandon you if you the umps catch on.

Spargo’s positioning is what makes his game. Watch as we turn the ball over he’ll always be the first to move to get out to space. He understands how to stretch backlines. He gets front and centre.

Add in the strength at the contest and with tackling and that’s a proper AFL player.

Early Last year I called him a tin can to some mates, by years end it was a runn8ng gag of what metal he was made of each week. This year he is titanium

Love him, want him to start hitting the scoreboard more to take the next step

When your training reports win the Pulitzer prize picket, remember your old mates with donations of rare and expensive wines.

Thanks Uncle, is the maid hiding or have you already administered a fearful thrashing, and If I ever am in fair Romsey it would be a pleasure to provide fine wine for entertainment at "The Manor"

Just said the same thing to a couple of mates of mine.

Without trying to sound like some sort of [censored], I implored them to give him time. Despite size, he has all the attibributes to become an elite small forward.

He showed all of this in 2018 yet fallen to the wayside.

So important to our team right now. He forward entries and tackling pressure are crucial.

I'll take care of what you bear picket , however, The Maid is rather concerned about what you might bare.

I'm glad to be wrong with him GO SPARGS! KEEP IT UP SON!

Love Charlie. He's now reaping the rewards that come with having teammates with the same willingness to run and chase and tackle.

It's why I think Melksham needs to be left out. This small forward group has built a real synergy around work rate and pressure and Melksham, for all his skill, doesn't live up to that standard.

Ahh for the quantum mechanists out there.

On Demonland, Charlie Spargo is both (neither) amazing or awful

...but really, he is quite bloody good...

Yep. It annoys me that some are applauding that he has stepped up.

He's doing what he's always done and is being rewarded because he now has some help.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
