How bad is it in Melbourne today?  Is it going to be a full wet weather slog?

Hail and over 12 hours straight of rain overnight with 10mm plus. Ground will be soggy and it’ll be a slog in the wet all day.

I’m quietly confident if singing a very rousing post-match rendition of the Grand Old Flag.  Our new found maturity, and ability to readily change up / adjust our tactics to suit the game situation, will see us home by around three goals.

All this talk about us only playing teams at the bottom of the ladder.

We’re only 3 rounds in, it’s not like it’s round 17, saints and GWS had solid wins this week. It’s going to be a pretty even year.

Kozzy Prime Time Pickett to to kick a bag and Jordan to have a big game. I think Viney is crucial today.

Let’s tick another one off today, [censored] I hate Geelong.

I think the rest of the footy world believes the Cats deserve, and are due, for a loss which I’m happy for us to deliver.

I’m predicting a smallish winning margin - 10 to 20pts which will see us gain a bit of respect but not too much media hype to give us big heads against the Hawks the week after.

Heavy rain isn’t good for us IMO. We are very reliant on Gawns marking at both ends and May+Lever intercept marking to cut off attacks and start scoring chains going forward. If Kozzie can’t dominate at ground level in the wet then I worry we’ll lose.

Hopefully our midfield are up for it today. They’ll need to be clean to own the stoppages and territory battle so we can lock the ball in our forward half.

By the same token, its usually Hawkins that kicks a bag against us. Since we are not relying on key fwds then maybe the wet will serve to help Kozzie, sparticus, nibbler and jones.

Looking forward to Viney smashing some old cat's bodies.

This is still one of my all time favourite photos.

What's all this talk about Geelong? Isn't it Jee-long?

I hate Selwood. Hopefully Viney gives him a nice greeting or two.

I hate Dangerfield and Rohan too, but apparently they're not playing. I hate their coach, but he's not playing.

I'm in two minds whether or not to go to the match. I think probably not when I look outside and it's [censored] down, but then the rain stops and the sun's out.

Go Dees !!!!

Would have smashed Geelong on a dry deck, but oh no, it has to be a wet slippery day which will leave the cheating [censored] in with a fighting chance against us.

Geelong are [censored].  They lost to Adelaide, then beat Brisbane by 1 point at the Cattery thanks only to corrupt umpiring and struggled to beat a bottom 3 Hawks team by less than a goal.

They don't even have their best player playing.    If we fail to win this we are pretenders.

Hail, rain, sunshine or snow. In the past we've found ways to lose no matter what the conditions.

Maturity and endeavour will see us through today.

Seems counter-intuitive but a slop-fest requires extra maturity - which the Cats have in spades. We've also demonstrated extra maturity this season, so will be interesting to see how far we've come. Crazy to think that we could go two games clear of fifth spot by the end of round 4!

When was the last time we were 4-zip? 2006??

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
