Brayshaw a concern, though he did a couple of decent things. Could it be that away from the coalface, he's a bit lost?

Watching at the game I thought he played his wing well.

Very happy with the win and some of the individual performances, particularly Kossie and ANB who I thought showed huge improvement tonight.

But was it just me or were there about 4 dropped marks in the 3rd, all while ducking their heads? That was alarming.

Unsung heroes tonight were Jetta, Hunt and Jordon. They played their role and kept the dangerous small forwards at bay. Jordon with 9 tackles and 20 disposals a good effort for a second gamer. The backline is gelling so well and loved Rivers dash. As Paul Roos said "Defence win Premierships".

Message to Clayton Oliver, sensational game again but please for the love of God...

Don't go the bump!

You got a Brownlow to win and my money is on you :P

My heart was seriously in my mouth for that moment, he was lucky to collect his body!

He was lucky to only collect the body, but seeing that is exactly what he did, I don’t understand why that is a free kick (or a clear free kick as Ling said)...

I finally watched Rami Malek's Oscar-winning portrayal of Freddie Mercury last night and now it's just a big mental jumble when Jake Lever goes to fist the ball away.

Funnily enough I watched it a couple of weeks back too.

Didnt think of lever. Will now.

Fun film but best actor oscar?  Please

B Brown will make a huge difference to our goal kicking accuracy. Put him in Fritsch's position and move Fritsch to half fwd to deliver into the 50.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings to the side but he actually causes a bit of a conundrum with what to do with Max when he's resting.

Moving LJ into the ruck for a substantial period in the 2nd qtr proved to be pivotal and Maxy was good ahead of the ball without dominating.

I might be wrong, but I'm not sure you can have Max and Brown sitting in the forward half without severely hindering our ability to apply pressure.

Two years ago a win like that and we would have smashed them in clearances.

Tonight?

34 clearances to both sides.

We have changed the way be play quite markedly.

I'f you can't see that, you ain't really watching.

A related stat ( ie related to the reduced focus on clearances and the increased tactical focus on rebounding from half back): we only had one more inside 50 than them.

And they had 13 less scoring shots than us. 13.

100% agree with this. When we had no forward structure ahead of the ball in the second qtr, I was cursing him, but he reacted quickly.

This was a a really good performance from a coaching perspective.

It was probably Yze's call

We have so much upside. They could continue to develop and deliver as the season progresses.

That first twenty minutes from the start of play, shows me we are heading in the right direction.

Oliver on song.

Backline doing the wall. Max helping out brilliantly. Lever, smart plays, Tomlinson his best game for us, May a bit off.

Salem and Hunty stepped it up this week.

Stay switched on Dees.

Great that we are starting to show some confidence, in that we can haul in an opponents lead.

Pickett on a steep learning curve. Getting clean ball and so dynamic. Keep building, could be anything.

Jackson development is a bit slower though still exciting.

Go Dees.

Enjoy the 2 and nil, and then refocus for another one

Great bloody win! Dominated a top 4 rated side. So much for us being slow

Goody well and truely out-coached Ratts.

When they had momentum in the 2nd I thought we were finished. But we recovered. Blanketed their smalls, forced turnovers.

Might have already been said but that was a training drill.  Kick straight and we win that by 50 or 60.  Great signs.

A few hand written apologies are in order for Tomlinson.  He has been fantastic so far this year.

It’s a massive stat isn’t it. considering, as you point out, the clearances were equal. And yes we def do look to be playing a bit differently.

Been a few great weeks for the Dee's teams (women powering on), a positive start to the year.

The team seems more mature, so hopefully the work over the summer on leadership and taking the swings in our effort out is starting to show and the team is enforcing standards between themselves. fingers crossed.

The old Top 4 Saints huh?!

their skills are deplorable. Ours arent great but they butchered it. No elite players and a poor defence. They won’t win a flag with that list

they desperately need a Trac type star. Oh wait, that must hurt!

I keep thinking of about 100 simple mistakes we keep making and how easy they are to clean up and what they would mean for our potential.

Gawn continuing to try to hit short kicks on the run when he has handball options.

Long bombs inside 50 that go right to the defender or to 2 on 1's.

Long bombs down the line that don't advantage Gawn (or even go to him) when he's in good position.

Silly snaps in to the hot spot or at goal when one more handball means a clear shot.

Ineffective shepherds.

Tommy Mc trying to shrug tacklers rather than giving the first option.

Fritsch's set shot technique.

They're doing plenty right but leaving a lot out there too.

For me the biggest positive is that we were challenged and we changed the game, and got it on our terms. They were all over us through the second quarter but pulled it back to our game and from then on it was almost always on our terms. That shows a lot of maturity and dare I say development from Goodwin.

We also let them back in through basic marks dropped that you would expect to take 90% of the time. I take that as a positive as there wasn’t anything wrong with structure and style it was purely down to executing of a skill.

I was really happy to see some unsung heroes contribute positively; ANB, Tommo, and Spargo. All had crucial involvements in the game that gave us the win, Tommo in particular I thought was outstanding.

I’ve managed to calm myself down from the frustration of missing opportunities, it needs to improve but for now as long as the ledger has us racking up the wins I’m a happy camper.

grest point. I watched Petracca at the centre bounce and he often moved away from the contest into a dangerous position if he couldn't immediately impact the contest. good positioning but im surprised that wasn't coached our midfielders many years ago.

Don't sleep on Jack Steele. He's right up there with Petracca and Oliver.

The issue the Saints have is they've invested a heap in players that weren't wanted by their original clubs for a reason. I wish we had Dougal Howard and Dan Butler (despite a quiet game tonight). They desperately miss Paddy Ryder who was a smart buy too.

But Jones, Crouch, Higgins, Hill..nice short term improvements but they've put a lot in for those guys.

jordon reminds me of what i wanted - and expected - tyson to be; he doesn't get caught holding as often, he's cleaner with disposal, sticks his tackles, and just sort of unobtrusively goes about picking up possessions

he looks like a better player than a host of players drafted ahead of him

could be our kane lambert

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
