Just canโ€™t see where our improvement on 2020 is going to come from looking at this.ย

In fairness our round 1 side was always going to be weak given we have Brown, Weid, Viney, Melksham and Hibberd out.

Be a great result if we can get out of this with a win.

Just because he is named there doesn't mean he is going to play there, you would think that people would wake up to the fact that a lot of positional spots named pregame alter on game day.

Some people are just slow learners drysdale.ย  Three of the fourย named on the bench could play on the wing for starters.ย  Personally I'd like to see Riv given an opportunity there.

I agree he'll be closer to Fyfe than his wife.ย

I have no inside stuff on their relationship...just saying

Ok then, if he doesnโ€™t play there then who does? Whose our 2nd winger based on this team?

Jones? Tmac?

We're going to borrow Omac and sub him in thereย

Has Chandler suddenly become anย on baller? Team is pretty much right I would personally ย play Bowey ahead of Jetta and Chandler ahead of Spargo on form but its a good balance for who is available.ย

you would play a little kid like Bowey, the big boys would eat him up,he's 2years away from being an afl player

Pardon my ignorance but who will be the new 23rd man?

Chandler or Baker

Absolutely gobsmacked that Chandler misses out.ย

In contrast to the praccy match against the Tigers, this game will be a good example of what we need to build to make the improvements that we have all (DL) suggested and considered, at length. The Doggies practice match was a poor reflection on our readiness; we were soft.

First game of the year and team selection sucks.

Such a slow team.ย  Sparrow ahead of Chandler....

Agree - this is a bit of a surprise for me.ย  Surely with Oliver, Petracca, Harmes, Jordan, Brayshaw we have enough centre square players?ย  Sparrow is meant to be quick but he hasn't shown anything to suggest he's providing us a point of difference from what we already have (hope to be proven wrong).

To me this suggests that Petracca will be spending more time forward.

Has Spargo suddenly become a footballer.

Pickettย on the wing.

Harmes a run with role.ย

Sparrow centre.

Pettraca rotating mid and forward line.

Well that was easily solved @kev martinย ?

Itโ€™s an ok team until you hit the forwardline. I worry about the non-Langdon wing too.ย
Thank god May is playing. At least our backline and on ball brigade look very strong.ย

Great post jaded. My concerns in a nutshell. Esp the reference to God and steven may in the same sentence.

Jones t mac and anb got to be least impressive half forward line in the comp.

I feel this way about the the first 10 games of the year. If we can win 5 games without too many new injuries, I'll be somewhat confident, we can finish the season strongly with a forward line in place.

Id play Bowey and Chandler before Spargo! Its a no Brainer

You have my vote pf.

I think that Chandler is unlucky, thought he showed more than Jordan against the dogs... still itโ€™s the FD job,

Hereโ€™s hoping Jackson has an appetite, as with that fwd line heโ€™ll need to kick 5+ if we are even to have a chance.

It's the balance of the forward line that worries me, BRFE.

I love Jonesy but I can't think of another side that throws a slow, old bloke in its forward line.

We play a forward half game style. We need to be overloading on small, fast blokes.

As always these days, the listed structure never really matches the constantly changing pattern on field. I for one will be hoping to see a quite dynamic mixing of our onballers at stoppages out of that group.

I'm still in the camp of 'Harmes is best as a tagger with strong counter-attack ability'.ย

An interesting show of faith in a couple of veterans, perhaps at a dangerous cost of speed.ย

I wonder which of our emergencies will be brought in for the definitely legitimate medical substitute?

Based on the limited game time against the Dogs, pretty confident heโ€™ll get a game well within 2 years. Looks a likely replacement for Jetta.ย
ย

Not the done thing on here, but all the best to Sam Switkowski, great local talent whoโ€™s had a wretched run with injury, a quick and smart small forward, hope he snags a few tomorrow. ย

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
