We will be speaking with Melbourne Football Club CEO Gary Pert in the next day or 2 in the lead up to Round 1.

I've pretty much put together the questions I want to ask but thought I would put it out there to the Demonland faithful in case I have missed anything.

Yes I will be asking about our search for a home base. ?

I will post links here to the interview once it is done.

Thanks ...... great get!!

can you make sure you ask something about...something...can't remember what...

curious to know his thoughts on:

  • the implementing of a sub on the eve of round 1 and when clubs were given notice this was happening
  • whether staff retention issues been as a result of covid (football manager, media manager, and general manager - commercial all left within the space of 6 months, two to a rival club)
  • impact of diminished capacity crowds upon membership and expected game day revenues
  • recent fiascos regarding advertising for video intern (2020) and coterie club event in an all-male club (2021)

Edited by whatwhat say what

Holy [censored] [censored]! Nice one Andy. Big fan of the podcast.

  • Home base
    • How many realistic options do we have on the table
    • Is the corner of Gosch's paddock and size of ground going to realistically be big enough to be an option
    • How far down the path did we get with the Yarra Park option
    • How close are we to a announcing a site

Why do some members get New Balance 40% off offers and others don’t get the email. Why do some members get a thanks for hanging with us last year badge with their 2021 membership and others don’t.

I understand this club is probably understaffed but the two above examples just show ineptitude, inconsistency and a lack of regard for the members.

Well done lads, now I know you try to tread carefully but come on, here is your chance...

• Home base - wtf is happening

• why was Josh Mahoney not given a fitting farewell?

• Did you raise hell with Gil re the Cairns game debacle

• What did toy see in Mark Williams and why did it take so long

•  now the pokies are gone are we going to be able to survive and how

Please ask about comms

The color stuff has improved (eg interviews with players, puff pieces) and have their place but but i'm more interested in the communication about football related stuff like:

  • reliable info about injury (eg accurate window of return date),
  • training updates (particulalry in the context of fans not being able to attend training),
  • analysis of upcoming games and opponents (eg Carlton do a weekly bit on the game and the opponent )
  • accurate info about game times etc,
  • selection information
  • tactical stuff (where possible of course)

How many feathers has Chocco ruffled so far? (Tongue in cheek)

Given the big song and dance about finals or bust for Goody, will the board be held accountable too?

Good get Andy.

Please ask when we will get our own permanent home base???????????????????????????

See if we can get a time line from Pert.

Its embarrassing we don't have one tbh considering we are the oldest club in the league.

I wouldn't bother asking that question. Use the time for a question you will get you an answer.

Throw in Peter Jackson, he was at the AGM after he left and never got mentioned.

Ask him what the base line expectations are this year in terms of ladder position and consequences for our head coach should expectations not be met.

Exactly, he's obviously not gonna give specific details on the base but if he could at least give us a timeline of when to expect further info that would be appreciated. It's extending into years now, if nothing is announced this year people will lose trust in Pert and the board.

I'd like to see a couple of questions asked about membership - firstly, how many unique members have MFC had over the last 5 years. And secondly, other than trying to re-sign lapsed members what strategies does the club have in place to increase membership and get us to the 75k target the board have set themselves by 2023?

I would definitely ask Gary Pert about our home base in the MCG precinct.

I am also curious to see if we could re-try the Jolimont station option? I understand the East Melbourne residents want to walk their dogs but you would think a nearby football oval and a community centre with health and fitness facilities close by would be to their benefit?

I would also ask if further arrangements are being made to try and get more support from the MCC? We basically helped make the MCG not just a cricket hub but a sporting hub. The MCC has grown very wealthy from VFL and AFL football and the MFC got thrown scraps. Why not help us become successful again? Both the MCC and the MFC would benefit from us becoming successful again. Plus, it would be nice to have a bit more support come our way and perhaps even get to train on the MCG more regularly again during winter?

Exactly what I need to get through the work morning.

Great scoop, Andy!

He must be happy he's not at Collingwood dealing with their mess.

I wasn't aware this was problem.

I was referencing the lack of info about the cast v hawks game. But your right its generally ok i guess

Thanks for organising this. I thought Gary spoke more confidently about the on field side of things, than the off field side of things, whereas I would have thought the off field side should be more his department.

I get that there are limits to what he can say about the home base, but the response to the revenue question was concerning and unsatisfactory. It seems to be assumed that it is only at matter of time before we're a consistent finals side, which will see members and sponsors beating down the door, and the dollars rolling in. It's not that easy, and there needs to be a plan B and C. I would hate to see the proceeds of Leighoak (and ultimately the Bentleigh Club) absorbed by covering operating losses.

I'd ask him if he's aware of the grubby history behind club sponsor Red Bull, but wouldn't do that on air.

What's the "grubby history behind Red Bull" ?

You think being chief of the MFC is easier?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
