Oliver out with general soreness (sounds like just resting)

Salem out with hamstring tightness, which is no good. He’s had issues with hamstrings before. Hopefully nothing a rest can’t fix.

Where is Clayton Oliver?

He's laying low with some character called "General Soreness"...

Oliver and Salem "managed"

All four of Bowey. Petty, Laurie and Bedford were very exciting last week in the 2nds... deserved their call up.

Agree good to see youngsters get a taste now.  I think Bailey Laurie will crack it for a senior debut game later in the year.

Oliver, Salem, Brayshaw, Viney, Hibberd, Melksham, B Brown and Weid all out.

Meanwhile the Dogs have a near full strength side.

Hard to see us winning this one, but hopefully a few lesser lights can step up tomorrow and show that we have good depth.

So do we go with Vanders and Lockhart from the get go as that team line up may suggest or do we throw Laurie and Bowey in to the fire and see if they are ready for round 1?

Petty and Tomlinson get a half each? Or May/Lever plays a half and then has a rest so the other 2 can compete for more time?

There's plenty of guys playing for their spots.

WBs  a strong line up. Johannesan in the 2s,  Hope at least one of our recruits get a run.

How many on the bench?

Best to see how Jones, Neal-Bullen and Vandenburg measure up earlier rather than later. We're resting players and trying players. Sensible course of action and giving a couple of key players a rest is fine with me. The result of this match is immaterial in the long-term.

For those who like team lists:-

1. Steven May

2. Nathan Jones

4. James Harmes

5. Christian Petracca

6. Luke Jackson

8. Jake Lever

9. Charlie Spargo

11. Max Gawn

12. Toby Bedford

15. Ed Langdon

16. Bailey Laurie

17. Jake Bowey

20. Adam Tomlinson

22. Aaron vandenBerg

23. James Jordon

24. Trent Rivers

25. Tom McDonald

29. Jayden Hunt

30. Alex Neal-Bullen

31. Bayley Fritsch

32. Tom Sparrow

33. Oskar Baker

35. Harrison Petty

37. Kade Chandler

39. Neville Jetta

41. Jay Lockhart

Oliver out will give good game time to Sparrow Jordan. I want to see what they have. If they have decent games should play rd 1. Bowey Laurie aswell although prob not rd 1 with players to return

Oliver out Managed, doesn't cut it with me.His training form has been absolutely SENSATIONAL !! Is something amiss??

I think it works in our favour the doggies playing a full-strength side. Give our players challenging for a round one spot a proper test.

I'll assume that Aemond is an anagram... Daemon? Good get for originality if so. Just as well I know Latin to get it. Agree with your assessment in that we need to find out sooner rather than later.

That side is not filling me with confidence on the cusp of Round 1

Massive game for Jordon. What he do in the middle against a top midfield.

bowey and Laurie could make round 1 debuts with strong performances.

Can’t wait to see the boys play!

Oliver just posted a photo of himself at Gosch’s Paddock from this morning. He was clearly training with the leftover group of players. I accept that he is being managed.

I look at the forward line and shake my head. Spoon written all over it.

The same forward line that just kicked 14 goals against Richmond?

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
