Nothing stupid about the President or Pert speaking at a supporters function. It’s their role to communicate across the membership. They didn’t select the venue. It would be bad if they didn’t support a group who financially back the club. Why should coterie members not be able to listen to the club management.

For the exact reason it is causing a stir now.
i don’t have a problem with it. BUT the Goalposts have moved. Many people think it stinks and considering we want to get Government Funding and Crown land near the MCG

It is not the cleverest of moves right now.

Agree, individual members may or may not have a problem with it but as a community not for profit reliant upon sponsors it's not a good look.

Yeah lets fill the entire board and staff with females, who cares if they are qualified or not.

We must not rest until the entire club is 100% female!

Must have missed where I suggested that rather than posting factual information...

Think your outrage over your imagined outrage has clouded your brain somewhat fella.

The website lists 2 Vice Presidents. My point is Bartlett’s change of title is more than symbolic because it impacts the title of his deputy. It’s not a panacea but it has real consequences by removing an obstacle to a female head of the board.

There’s no reason a Vice President would speak at a coterie season launch no matter where it was held.

Sure, no argument here about the title change impact.

No reason the vice president would speak, yet they have Bartlett, Pert, Choco, Yze, Richardson and Lyon speaking? I guess none of the males thought to officially invite Kate so she couldn't attend anyway.

I'm not fussed about the function, the coterie group, The Australian Club or it's rules, I just think Bartlett is outing himself as an absolute hypocrite and a leader only out for himself.

Which one of those people means the Vice President would speak? Pres, CEO, head of footy, 2 new coaches, club legend/prominent media member. Vice President doesn't fit with any of that.

It's a private function, no one can just attend without an invite. She can join the coterie - assuming she isn't already a member - or she can request or be offered an invite. I'm sure the coterie would be more than happy for her to attend. Whether the function was held at the Australia club, the Avalon Bowls Club, kittens carwash or Clementine Ford's house it's a private function.

The change of title was a response to women who are actually involved in the club, it’s not a huge step but it’s directly related to your first point. Maybe check the website and look at our Vice Presidents.

We have 2 female assistants on the women’s team, the growth of assistants is the right pathway. A woman become a men’s assistant is the next step. Meanwhile our coach made 2 excellent bold positional moves last night and we beat the Saints and their female coach by 7 goals.

Women’s players have been afforded lucrative media duties and marketing opportunities, they’re making a lot more money than the base wages. Their earnings are outpacing their revenue and rightfully so, but they have a path to really nice semi-pro careers. Short of somehow making the average crowds double overnight I don’t know that there’s more to be done.

We’ve 1 female VP, Kate Roffey, accordingly to the website. Have I missed someone else? I think we could have more.

No reason why we can’t have a female coach. Bec Goddard has won a premiership and is commentating because she can’t get a full time role. I’d have her over Stinear.

Agree it’s difficult to grow salaries above current levels.

Anyways, I think the above are much more worthy of debate than whether Bartlett appears at a non-MFC event at the Australia club.

Pretty hefty invite list, but no females. Take from that what you will.

I'm aware it's a private function, and I have no problem with the function or it's location. Again, as I've pointed out now numerous times despite your attempts to move the goal posts (kittens carwash and Clementine Ford, really?), my problem is with the blatant inconsistency from our club president.

There are members in this very thread who want Bartlett to go ahead with it, and to hell with the bleaters.

But of course the outrage army should be listened to in the name of "virtue" right?

Speaking of alt right bingo Donald trump Jr. was appalled to learn a few days ago that the Washington Football Team's cheerleading program had been axed.

So he posted a video on the web entitled:

LOL: This is the Latest Victim of Woke Craziness.

In it he says "If there was an Olympic medal for woke stupidity, these guys would win, like, the platinum medal. It would be bigger than gold,"

Platinum medal. Pardon the pun, but that is comedy gold.

Talk about triggered. So triggered he had to make a video (presumably in front of his wall of guns).

I am convinced donnie jnr posts on demonland.

careful......allegedly female :)

Could possibly be any one of the 63 genders the woke brigade have managed to conjure up, but my guess is she would be just your normal female, { oops, could I in trouble now}

Nah, just trying to help you out, gotta keep those post numbers of yours on the increase.

The time Bitters tried to join the Romsey CWA in a leather mini did not go down well.

Some clubs operate better when one gender is in control.

Remembering humanity has worked in seperate genders for 3 million years.

The last 50 years have been an evolutionary experiment with only varying degrees of success.

aaaaannnnnnnnnddd there's our lefty mention of Trump and family in a post about the melbourne Football Club and it's supporter groups.

How is that man and his clan so deep under your skin?

I personally will not be renewing my membership this year as a statement (and I have credit with the club to do so) if anyone representing the club speaks at a venue that denies membership based on gender.

If this ‘men’s’ club instead denied membership based on race, no one would stand for it. Anyone who stands for denying membership of a club because someone happens to be a woman is anti-women and sexist by definition. This isn’t hard. This is not the equivalent of having a boys night out or whatever some are arguing in this thread. It’s pure sexism, the kind of thing that proves you have systemic discrimination in your club (ahem Collingwood).

MFC needs to decide what it stands for. And being okay with straight up discrimination against women ain’t it.

Personally, I'm not going to take australopithecus as a role model for social organisation in a post-industrial society.

On the bright side, we're following the path biology was already moving us along; sexual dimorphism in humans and human ancestors has been erratic but clearly trending downwards over time.  Another million years or so, the CWA will have no reason to reject Bitters except for Bitters being, you know, Bitters - and that's even before you factor things like tool use.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash.
